Hi,Weneed more information for further troubleshooting. 1. How many Domain Controllers in the network? All these DC in one site? 2. Please download MPSRPT_Exchange.EXE from here and then generate mps report. 3. Please find Exchange setup log from c:\ExchangeSetupLogs. Please send mps report and setup log to me. Regards, Xiu

Hi, Thanks for yours using Microsofts product. Since Windows Server 2008 R2 has not released, it is not a support OS for Exchange Server 2007 sp1.Theres no document published. Besides, please understand that the new operation system may cannot get along with the old product, we may need some improvement on the old product, something like service pack or hot-fix. Your findings can help us to upgrade the product. We are in the progress to fix the problem. So far, if you want to investigate Exchange Server 2007 with Windows Server 2008, I recommend you not to use Windows Server 2008 R2 beta with Exchange Server 2007 sp1. Regards, Xiu

Hi. I had the same problem, both with domain in Windows 2008functional leveland in Windows 2008 R2 functional level. I installed 32bit DC in Windows 2008 functional level and then used the 32 bit Exchange 2007 source (which is intendend for testing) to run the AD preparation stuff there and then installed all the Exchange roles on the 64bit Windows 2008 R2 servers. The setup on the R2 machines skips the organizational preps since it has already been done and completes the Exchange setup without errors.Everything in Windows 2008 R2 Hyper-V. All working fine so far.Bjorgvin

I followed your advice: before installing Exchange 2007 SP1 on a Server 2008 R2 (domain controller), I installed the 32-bit (non-production) version of Exchange 2007 SP1 on a 32-bit instance of Server 2008 that was joined to that domain, then ran successfully the following commands. The first command was needed because the Organization Name had not been established because Exchange had not yet been installed.setup /OrganizationName:MyOrganizationsetup /PrepareADsetup /PrepareSchemaThen I ran Exchange 2007 SP1 setup on Server 2008 R2. It failed at installing the Hub Transport Role with an error that 'Service MSExchangeTransport' failed to start. The MSExchangeTransport service by default runs under the Network Service account. I tried changing that to the Local System account and to a domain administrator account, without success.Any suggestion as to how to eliminate this problem? Thanks.Update 2009-02-10 15:40 UTC -- I changed the Forest and Domain Functional Levels from Server 2008 to Server 2008 R2. Perhaps because of that,or perhaps for some other reason, I was able to start the MSExchangeTransport service using the Network Service account. Then I resumed Exchange 2007 SP1 Setup. It successfully completed installation of the Hub Transport Role and successfully installed the Client Access Role. However, it failed on installing the Mailbox Role with the followingmessage "An error occurred. The error code was 3221684229. The message was Access is denied."Update 2009-02-12 19:35 UTC -- I was able to completeinstallation of Exchange 2007 SP1. I got around the previously-reported error code 3221684229 by changing the owner of the registry key HKCR\Interface from TrustedInstaller to Administrators. This in turn allowed changing the permissions on the key to give SYSTEM Full Control (previously had only Read permissions) and to give Creator Owner Full Control permissions on subkeys only.

Same issue for me here... surely this would have been tested before initial R2 beta release... Exchange 2007 SP1 seems a prevelent candidate for R2 beta testing...

I have found workarounds for the problems and was able to get Exchange 2007 SP1 working in Server 2008 R2 (7100). To get the domain prepped you have to do that from a Server 2008 (non-R2) server (as a few others have mentioned on here). You should then be able to install everything except the mailbox role. If you get the error "Access Denied" and an error number of "3221684229", if you right-click on the setup.exe file and cloose the run it in compatibility mode (I chose Vista SP1) then the mailbox role successfully installs. I know these errors don't relate exactly to the problems you are facing but I thought it might help.RobinRobin Wilson

Just to let you all know. Exchange 2007 is not supported on 2008 R2. Only Exchange 2010 i'm afraid.
