PowerPivot is not available in COM Add-Ins in Excel 2013 Professional

Hi,

I recently installed Microsoft Office Professional 2013. But I don't find PowerPivot Add-in under COM Add-ins in Excel 2013.

When I talked to the Tech Team before buying the office, they confirmed that PowerPivot is available within 2013.

I can only see Microsoft Power Map For Excel but not PowerPivot.

Can somebody help me regarding this issue?

Hi sktneer,

Based on your reply, you are using Office Professional which dont support this add-in. Please check the version of Excel 2013 you are using now, if Power Pivot is supported in your version of excel.

These add-ins and the Inquire add-in all require specific SKUs of Microsoft Office 2013. They are available on:

  • Microsoft Office 2013 Professional Plus
  • Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus available as a standalone subscription.
  • Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus available as part of the Office 365 Enterprise E3, Office 365 Enterprise E4, Office 365 Education E2, Office 365 Education E3, Office 365 Government E3, or Office 365 Government E4 offerings.
  • Microsoft Excel 2013 standalone with the following update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2817425

If your version of excel support Power Pivot, this issue might be occurred the registry keys that provide the add-in information to the Add-in Manager are damaged or set to invalid values. See More Information for the Office 2013 SKUs that contain these add-ins.

To work around this issue is to delete the affected registry keys. Microsoft Office PowerPivot for Excel 2013 add-in corresponds to the following registry keys, respectively:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\User Settings\PowerPivotExcelAddin
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\PowerPivotExcelClientAddIn.NativeEntry.1

Please refer to following article to get more information.

If this issue still exists, please let me know. Im glad to help and follow up your reply.

Hi George,

Thanks for finding time to address my issue.

I have tried the options suggested by you but to my surprise, I didn't even find the registry key for PowerPivot so I had nothing to delete.

Today I talked to the After Sales Support Team and informed them about the issue and they told me the same thing that PowerPivot is not available with Office Professional 2013 and it is only available with Office 2013 Professional Plus and Office 365 Pro Plus.

They initiated my refund and asked to uninstall the office from my PC and I have done so.

Now the problem is, nobody is suggesting me what to do if I want to use PowerPivot feature within the Excel. Since I am a home user so not authorized to buy the Professional Plus office version.

I am not getting any support from Microsoft support team at all and surprisingly I have to explain them about the PowerPivot and Power BI Tools also.

So can you suggest me please that WHAT OFFICE VERSION SHOULD I BUY if I want to use PowerPivot feature and Power BI Tools within Excel? It will be a great help indeed.

Thanks once again for the reply.

Regards

Hi sktneer,

As you said youre a home user, I suggest you buy a downloadable version of Excel 2013 Standalone. If You Install Excel 2013 Standalone, and update to version 1511, you will get Power Pivot which should happen automatically anyway.

More information about office versions with Power BI features please refer to this article.

Hope its helpful.

Yes, power BI can be used with excel stand alone version, and you'd better remove the Excel part of current home version.
