Possibility of using Exchange Public Folders without email functions?
Hi, A strange question I know but is it possible to remove the email functionality of an exchange server but to keep its Public Folders for use? I have an exchange server on which the email functionality is dead but I want to maintain the Public Folders. Our email services have been moved to a hosted exchange enviroment that does not support Public Folders. Can I remove all mail functionality but use the server as a Public folder host that I can attach to Outlook Clients?

Hi, Yes u can maintain an exchange server as just a public folder server. What do u mean by removing email functionality from your server? Can u elaborate? Regards,Laeeq Qazi|Team Lead(Exchange + Sharepoint + BES + DynamicsCRM) www.HostingController.com

Hi Laeeq, The situation is as follows. We have purchased a company and are migrating them into our network. We have a hosted email service that I cannot attach their exchange server to. The WoW is heavily reliant on public folders which we do not support in our Exchange enviroment. What I was hoping to do as a quick resolution was to configure an exchange server just as a public folder share in our network with no email functionality, back up the public folders from the old server and restore them to the new one. Would this work? Thanks Dave

So if you meant to say that your exchange cluster will only host Public Folders and not the mailboxes (bcoz u have your mailboxes on some hosting server), then I think that your users wont be able to see the public folders in outlook. Although you can move public folders from one mailbox server to other in an exchagne cluster. Regards, Laeeq Qazi|Team Lead(Exchange + Sharepoint + BES + DynamicsCRM) www.HostingController.com
