Persistent Warning msg in Exch 2000/2007 system -- Event ID 2116
Our implementation is running fine in most regards, but we're concerned about a persistent Warning message in the Application Event Log of our E2K7 server. How can we fix the problem, or stop the message from being generated? The environment consists of an Exchange 2000 server infrastructure, into which we recently installed an Exchange 2007 server. A warning message for Event ID 2116 (details below) is reported frequently on the Exchange 2007 server (EXCHANGE01). The E2K server (SERVER1) also serves as a Domain Controller. The software for Exchange 2000 and AD meets Microsoft's published minimums for E2K7 (IE - proper SPs are applied). Indeed, the level reported in the Warning message ("Windows 5.0 (2195) Service Pack 4") meets the published minimums. We tried averting the problem by manually designating an alternate DC for the E2K7 server's OrganizationConfig (PowerShell command "set-OrganizationConfig -DomainController DC01.acme.msft"). This reduced the frequency, but didn't entirely eliminate occurance.Any ideas of what else we can try to eliminate this problem? Thanks,EggyDetails of Warning message of Event ID 2116:****************************************************Event Type: WarningEvent Source: MSExchange ADAccessEvent Category: Topology Event ID: 2116Date: 10/22/2007Time: 8:58:20 AMUser: N/AComputer: EXCHANGE01Description:Process powershell.exe (PID=7144). I'm sorry if I'm not understanding you correctly, but the exchange2000/DC server is running 2000 SP4 ? If so, E2k7 can't use it without it being upgraded/moved to 2003 SP1

Knightly, Thanks. Toclarify --the Exchange 2000/DC server IS running SP4. That's what makes it so puzzling. Thanks, Eggy

This is only a Warning so you can safely ignore this. You can find more info here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb217517.aspx You should however have at least two Windows 2003 SP1 DC/GCs available in your AD Site where your Exchange Server is for High Availability for your Active Directory that Exchange uses If Exchange 2007 is installed on a DC (Windows 2003 SP1) it uses only that DC and does not fail over to another DC Deli

OK, that's the issue then. Exchange 07 doesn't like the server 2000 DC. That message will go away when that domain controller is upgraded or decomissioned, but as long as you've got other 2k3 sp1 DC's/GC's you'll be fine.

Thanks. It looks like we'll just have to live with it. Unless -- any chance of configuringMOM to squelch this warning message? If so please let me know. Else let's put this item to rest. Thanks Again, Eggy

Yes, you can tell MOM to stop reporting this warning. You need to reconfigure the Exchange 2007 management pack I don't know where you have to look excatly to disable this Deli
