Patch failed for Skype

I have a system with Windows 8.1 and Office 2013 installed on it. The Patch that installs Skype for business is installed but opening still shows Lync client.

Any suggestions on fixing this issue??

The Skype UI can be controlled by the Server administrator.  Can you confirm if your administrator has forced the LyncUI for you or all users?

For complete details see http://blogs.technet.com/b/scottstu/archive/2015/04/13/controlling-the-client-experience-with-skype-for-business.aspx

Do you see a value called EnableSkypeUI at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Lync?

Hi,

In addition to Dino's post, there are also policies to configure the client experience with Skype for Business.

You can specify the client experience the users in your organization will see by using the Set-CSClientPolicy cmdlet with the EnableSkypeUI parameter, please refer to this link below for details:

Unfortunately this one appears to be broken. It's still showing Lync at the top but it's trying to show Skype GUI and parts of it are blank. The rest of the clients that received the "patch" that was pushed out by Microsoft are showing correctly on the screen.

You can try rolling back the May patch on the client and then reinstalling it from the source https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/MS15-044

turns out there were 2 copies of Lync installed on the system. One in Office 2013 and an another installed as standalone. After jumping through hoops to get only version that worked. Everything works fine now.
