Hi all. I have two users: One is creating docx documents on Word 2007. The other is editing those documents on Word 2013 (Office 365 install). Inevitably, when saving the Word 2007 docx in compatibility or any other mode, it takes forever (and I do mean forever--more than a minute) to save the file. This slow-down doesn't happen with any other files from any other users no matter what version of Word they are using. Any suggestions for a root cause? BTW, this same behavior is evident if the editor switches to Word 2007 on his system. Still takes forever to save documents, but only when working with documents from that one use

Based on the description, only the documents from the specific Word 2007 user have this issue that Word takes long to save files, so I suspect the Word 2007 Normal.dotm is somehow corrupted or has something wrong. To verify this, create a document in Word 2007 when Word is in Safe Mode.

Start Word in Safe Mode:

Press Win + R, type "winword.exe /safe" in the blank box, press Enter.

In Word Safe Mode, the Normal.dotm is reset to its default values, you can then create a document in this mode, save the file to check the result. Please also try editing and saving this file on Word 2013 to check the result.

If the document created in Word safe mode is ok, we can browse to this file from this location:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dotm

Rename Normal.dotm to ".old", start Word again and a new Normal.dotm will be created, check if the problem persists with the new one.
