PTR Record

Hi I am using Exchange Server 2013

My Exchange server is exchange.mydomain.com and my urls are with mail.mydomain.com.
DNS Records for Exchange: I have A, PTR, MX record for mail.mydomain.com with 192.168.1.10(ISP).
When it comes to mydomain.com i just have A record with 192.168.1.11(ISP) , Do i also need PTR record for mydomain.com

Will the PTR ip 192.168.1.11 should map to mydomain.com or mail.mydomain.com, Here some confusion as i will come up with spf record. So need to configure dNS records correctly.

Hello,

You should have a PTR record too for mail.mydomain.com and it's not mandatory for mydomain.com. mydomain.com can be used for many other purposes than email purposes and thus it can't be a mandatory requirement to have PTR for the root domain

You should have a PTR record for any server that is externally resolvable on the internet, and especially any server that is sending mail for you ( A PTR of the external IP Address)

mail.mydomain.com MX record present
mail.mydomain.com A record present
autodiscover.mydomin.com A record present
192.168.1.10 pointing to mail.mydomain.com PTR record present

mydomain.com A record present
192.168.1.11 pointing to mydomain.com (PTR record is not created)?
What consequences will i face if i dont have a PTR record here,

Is it best practice to create a PTR record ?

You should definitely have a PTR for any externally resolvable IP of any server that is sending mail for you org.

If you don't , you risk mail being rejected by recipient servers
