PS New-Mailbox - How to call from a server without Exchange on it ?
Hi, I would like to create an AD user with a Exchange Mailbox. I know that the PS command New-Mailbox seems to be the solution. I can call the Exchange Powershell from the server with Exchange on it. I would like to execute this script from a different server. Does anyone how to call a Exchange PS command from a second server without having Exchange on it? thanks Sven

you would need exchange management Tools installed to have the cmdlets available on the system, i have not tried running scripts from management only system. you can try copying the scripts from the installation direcotry and running on the management node Dhruv

Sven, What version of Exchange are you running? Exchange 2010? Then take a look at the links posted by Tim Harrington above. Exchange 2007? Then you will need to install the Management Tools from the install DVD (just the tools, not any of the roles - MB, HT, CA, etc.). Also... what OS is the other server running (the one you want to run the command from)?

There are two methods I use much, but only with Exchange 2010. For PowerShell remoting use these simple steps: Connecting to a remote Exchange 2010 Organization using Remote PowerShell http://blogs.msexchange.org/walther/2009/04/22/connecting-to-a-remote-exchange-2010-organization-using-remote-powershell/ As to Exchange 2007, according to Henrik Walther: "Although Exchange 2007 supports PowerShell 2.0 it doesn’t support the remote PowerShell feature so what you’re trying to do is not possible." From my Mac I use PowerGUI Pro with the MobileShell. You have to buy it and install it on the Exchange server. It's supposed to provide administrators the flexibility to execute scripts remotely from any mobile device, server or client using only a web browser. Haven't tested it so much with all those devices, but had initially problems from my Mac, which were solved after an update or two. (MobileShell should work with Exchange 2007 as well.) http://www.quest.com/PowerGUIPro/ MCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M

It's Exchange 2007.. then i would need to install the management tools from the DVD on to the server where I want to call the PS script. Can I call Exchange from a server remotely by installing the management tools ?

Yes, you can and should do so. I've done so for the last two weeks with Exchange 2007 servers in the US and Norway, mostly due to the fact that I am running Export-Mailbox and Import-Mailbox on 32-bit Windows. On theses servers I have the free PowerGUI Script Editor and several other Exchange tools installed. Make sure that the network you are on is defined in AD Sites and Services within a site that has a GC. A bit overtired I first overlook that fact, had several random errors and the EMC was awfully slow.MCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M
