PRIV1.EDB
I recently assumed responsibility for our exchange server after the departure of the exchange administrator. For some reason when he built the system he only made C 12 GB. Programs have been loaded onto the C drive but what he didn't realize
was that the priv1.edb is also in the directory c:\program file\exchange\MDBDATA directory. Initially 12 gb was plenty. Now the files has grown to 1.5 GB and I have 0 disk space available. I can manually delete my McAfee directory which would
free up about 700 K but it is only going to be time until I am full again. The 700 K is not enough to run the compress utility since it says you need 110% of what ever the size of the priv1.edb. My goal would be to move this file for now and let
exchange know where it is located. Because there is no space on the c drive I can not even move the mail to a new server. I get an error telling me that no space is available. All the exchange databases and logging files are on other drives.
Is there a fix for this problem?

All the databases are not on other drives because priv1.edb IS your first database. You need to move it to somewhere else and you need to move the logs to a third location.

Hello,
Please don’t delete any
transaction
log files on the server.
Please take a backup of the database and then
You need to move it to somewhere else and you need to move the logs to a third location.
Please follow this KB article it will help you.

If you are good backup and another server, I would say restore everything onto a new server.
And get rid of your old server later.

Basically you want to move that database and logs to another drive with ample space.
NOTE: When you do this the Exchange Database will be taken offline so ensure that you notify your users that you are taking the DB offline, else you will get a mob at your door. ok so here goes
Start Exchange System Manager. Click Administrative Groups. Right-click the storage group, and then click Properties. Click the Database tab Next to the database that you want to change, click Browse, and then specify a new drive or folder location for the files.
If the DB didn't automatically remount, mount it now If your logs are on drive C as well then locate the storage group you want to change log file paths.
click the General tab. Click the Browse button next to the Transaction log location box, and then specify the new drive or folder location for the log files.
NOTE: I would put the logs on a different drive than the DB's are on in order to improve performance.
Check your disk space on drive C: it should now be in good shape Be sure to adjust your backup jobs so that they know about the new db location because most backup products wont adjust automatically
If its appropriate i.e. not many people around the office you may want to consider kicking off a backup job right away

I want to say everyone was telling me the correct problem. It was by chance that I realized the the first administrator for some reason didn't use the default information store. He made a second one and used a different naming convention. During
the time this system was operation a few account got created in this store and it has taken until now to use up the free space. I have since moved these account to were they should be, moved the transaction DB, Priv1.edm and priv1.stm. I didn't
realize if you pick a new location these files would move automatic. Everything is fine now. Thanks for the help.
