POP Configuration in Exchange 2003
Hi Guys, I am new to Exchange 2003 and with this forum help I am able to configure SMTP finally and the mail is going out properly. But dont know how to configure POP as I have my own hosted domain. I have a MDAEMON background in which we used to create users and associate a POP account...just a POP address of any domain with the account information like account name and password and it used to fetch emails on our specified time and move mails to the local mailbox of that particular user. I dont know how to configure the same thing in Exchange...please guide and help I would really appreciate.

Hi, I understand that you need to retrieve the email from Internet POP3 email account and deliver them to Exchange server. If my understanding is right, POP3 connector can reach your target. Whether the Exchange server is SBS 2003? Please understand that POP3 connector only being provided by the version of Exchange specifically for SBS. If not, we can only resort to third party pop3 connector to achieve this feature. For third party POP3 connector, below article has detailed state. http://www.msexchange.org/software/POP3-Downloaders/ Thanks Allen

Allen, Thank you so much for the answer I got it what you are saying. Please do clear my understanding of exchange regarding POP3 connectivity. Do we use Exchange Server with the hosted domain by creating a MX record at .com and with the static IP it fetches mail from there time to time and what about the internal mails in between users? would they also go to DOT COM and come through POP3 or they go directly to the recipient inbox by not using SMTP relay? I hope my question is clear to understand or should I explain in much simpler way

Hi, No need to create MX record and the IP address since the email server needs to be configured on the POP Connector. On the interface of configuration, we need to input the server as the source to be fetched email, then select the internal users who have Exchange mailbox from ADUC. For the communication between internal user, RPC is used but not SMTP relay. Moreover, I would like to share the resource of the POP3 connector with you as below link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885685 Thanks Allen
