POP3 and IMAP cannot relay email address when sending
Hi I posted a similar question that was not yet answer but I will try again.... I'm having problems with exchange 2007 with pop3 and imap settings. I can use OWA and Microsoft Exchange Server settings on a client computer and sent and receive emails perfectly. Also with telnet on port 25 I can relay the address there as well. But when I'm using POP3 or IMAP with SSL on client computers whether if sending port is on SSL or not I get a message back that the email address could NOT relay. I'm desperate.... can you help me?

Just a thought, but unless you have explicit requirement for pop3 or Imap4 then Outlook Anywhere (RPC/HTTPS) is normally considered the better option.Exchange 2007 does not allow you to relay messages through the send connector unless you have authenticated with the server. when inside the network this happens automatically using your machine account / integrated authentication, however when outside the network you have to tell outlook to authenticate with your smtp (outgoing) server.

The thing is that I'm trying send emails with IMAP or POP3 inside the network and it authenticates when I'm receiving and I can see the emails but when I'm sending an email I'm getting an email back saying that it cannot relay the email address. What do you think is the problem?

this is most certainly an authentication issue, you see, your smtp server allows you to relay messages for those domains it is authoritative to, i.e. it accepts any message sent to mydomain.com but requires you to authenticate with it before it will allow sending to hotmail.com for example.for this reason in your pop3 account settings you need to tell outlook to authenticate with the outgoing server before sending any emails.on the internal network you automatically authenticate with the smtp virtual server by using windows integrated authentication. this is not possible from outside of your network.
