POP3 Connection manager
I am moving 250 users from Godaddy POP accounts to newly installed Exchange 2010. Since Exchange 2010 does not have a POP connection manager like SBS, how can I migrate the users off POP3 to exchange. What would be best practices?

Where is the data now? It is unusual for the data to be stored on the POP3 server, it is stored locally? There are third party pop3 connectors, but it would take some time to configure 250 accounts in one. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources

It's a mixed setup, most of the users have there email stored locally or on the terminal server profile. I am trying to move users from pop to exchange without turning pop off until I can get them on exchange. The users are invarious locations and need to moved individually to be sure all there is moved. When I launch Outlook it will ask to import the old account, would that work?

Hi, Microsoft POP3/IMAP connector is only available on Windows Small Business Server 2003/2008. But You also can use the third-part POP/IMAP connector for Exchange server. A quick search displays many options. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&biw=1579&bih=689&q=exchange+2010+pop3+connector&aq=f&aqi=g2g-m1g-v1&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai= Note: The third-party products discussed here are manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability. All that Outlook does at that stage is import the account information, not the data. While you continue to have email going to the POP3 servers, you will be forever chasing your tail, the accounts will never be empty. You then have issues with the MX records, where do you point those? Therefore you are stuck with either biting the bullet and doing a big bang switch then importing the content, or using a third party POP3 connector, with the manual input of all accounts that requires. everyone has already suggested good options to you. To move 250 POP3 by yourself is a nightmare if you do it manually. There is an option if that works, since they are all POP3 there PST are on their local PC. 1-So create all the new accounts on the Exchange server. 2- Configure the new Outlook profile on each computer 3- Once logged into the Outlook add those PST as an additional data file to their existing profile. At this point users will notice Exchange Mailobx and additional Personal Folder which is their PST. 4-Now let everyone drag and drop the emails/folder rom Personal Folders to their Exchange Mailbox. Note- depending on the size of users email, don't let them drag and drop all at once, break it up in to a set of 10 users or whatever. Hope that helps.

Thanks for that, trying to avoid the "BIG BANG". I am not good with unhappy campers.

I like this idea, I'm not looking forward to visiting all locations. This would allow me to cut over anytime, cool.

I have been configuring users for the exchange server and it seems to going well. My only concern is that you do not see a .ost file in their terminal server profile. Shouldn't there be a ost file in thier profile?

You can't use cached mode with terminal services by default. If the users are on terminal services then they will be connecting to Exchange live. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources
