I respond to an email. It appears in the sent box, BUT there is no indication with a little arrow in the Incoming box that I have sent it. Why not?

This is a problem when I need to remember if I responded to an email sent "days or weeks ago". One has to take time to search sent box for verification.

I think you are talking about the Conversation view in Outlook?

Find the option to turn it on from VIEW tab -> Messages Group -> Show as Conversations.
