Outlook tries to make a connection to the old exchange server after mailbox is moved
I have moved users mailboxes from the OLD exchange server to a new one. I disconnect to OLD exchange server from the network and open oultlook and check the connection (Connection Type = Mail )status it shows a connection to the OLD server. Outlook shows trying to connect and finallyresulting in Limited connectivity. I have transferred the Offline address book roles , Receipent Policy roles to the new exchange server and is in the process of removing the old one. What roles may be remaining in the old server for outlook to look for it ?

To know the new homeMDB location, the old Server should be on the network untill all users open their mailboxes. I think you should keep the old exchange server on network for some time. What is the version of Exchange server and Outlook? Did you have Public folder servers in your org? Thanks.Vishal Ramnani | MCITP - Exchange 2007 | MCSE Messaging | MCTS - Win 2008 Config

Exchange 2003 Standard Outlook 2007. The OLD server is also exchange 2003 Standard. There is no Public Folder created for Users to access. But the connection type to the OLD server is "Mail" its not trying to access a public folder.

Exchange 2003 needs these system folders in Public folders server for organizational forms, offline address book generation, and free/busy information. if Outlook 2007 is used with Exchange 2003 then it is still dependent on Publicfolder system folders. When you install first Exchange 2003 in org, a general purpose public folder tree is created by default Exchange generates the following system folders: E-forms registry Events root Offline Address Book Schedule + free busy Store events NNTP control folder System configuration To view System Folders, start Exchange System Manager, navigate to Public Folders and right click "View System Folders." I would suggest you to connect that exchange server and move all replica of public folders to new exchange server. I have replicated all the public folders (including the System Folders) to the new exchange server. But still clients have some sort of connection to the OLD exchange Server.

Was the old Exchange server online when you opened the mailbox after migration? Did you try configuring a new profile to see it if works? If Outlook is working after creating new profile then it means the Outlook automatically getting updated with its new location of mailbox in old profile which was create before migration. To autoupdate outlook profile for all users, the Old exchange server should be online until everyone get their new location of mailboxes. Other wise you will end up creating new profiles for everyone. Thanks.Vishal Ramnani | MCITP - Exchange 2007 | MCSE Messaging | MCTS - Win 2008 Config

Yes the OLD server was online when opening the mailbox after migration. If i create a new profile it works fine. But i cannot be creating new profiles for all the users.

Since the Outlook works fine after creating new profile then it should not be an issue with Public folder database setup on Mailbox store. i think you would have done it already. How did you move your mailboxes..?? is it ESM or ADUC? Is the issue only with you or other users as well? Thanks.Vishal Ramnani | MCITP - Exchange 2007 | MCSE Messaging | MCTS - Win 2008 Config

OK. IN this case you have two options. Move all back to old server and move them again to new one using ADUC. Keep the old server alive with all service running till all user's profile get updated by old server. (Probably for couple of months). OR Use MS Exchange Server Exchange Profile Redirector to redirect moved users profile to new server. Hope this helps. I tried moving a Mailbox using ADUC but still the same. The profile gets redirected to the new server but still there is a connection to the OLD server in the Connection Status.
