Outlook search fileds are grayed out in RDS Farm

Hello All,

I have an RDS Farm 2008 Which I "Publish" outlook 2013 to my clients.

Everything Works just fine except one thing:

The Common Properties in the Search Field of Outlook 2013 are grayed out ( Screenshot is attached ).

I have 3 Servers in the RDS farm and it works only when the user is logged on to server number 1. All the search fields are available.

When the user logs off and reconnect to server number 3 - it does not work and the search fields are grayed out.

Here are some more details:

1. Roaming profile is being used.

2. Cache mode is disabled by policy (GPO ) - so no OST files are exist neither allowed.

3. I have already tried to delete the user profile but no luck.

4. Same version and features Of Office 2013 are installed on all the servers.

5. Windows Search Featureis installed on all the servers.

6. No accees to Drive C is Allowed - by policy ( No access to the servers C Drives  )

7. Bassically, all of my Servers are identical (or maybe not ??? )

My guess will be something with the search indexing and all that but I could not figured it out...

Please advice.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Please provide a screenshot so that we can understand this issue more clearly. You can upload the image to OneDrive if your account are not verified to insert an image here.

Meanwhile, please try to uninstall and then reinstall the Windows Search service to check if it helps.

Please let me know the result.

Thanks,

Screenshot is attached:

The server is a production server and users are connected. At this point I rather not reinstall any of its services.

Please help.

Thanks again

The screenshot indicates you are using Outlook 2007, and there is something wrong with the fields in the Query Builder, right? If I've misunderstood something, please feel free to let me know.

Components for the Query Builder are not part of Outlook but part of Windows Desktop Search (WDS). Please double-check if you have properly installed the Windows Search. Is there an Infobar showing under the Instant Search box stating: Click here to enable Instant Search"? If so, just click the link and it will take you to the download page of WDS.

In addition, please go to Tools-> Trust Center-> Add-ins and make sure the Windows Search Email Indexer add-in is installed.

Hi,

You are right. The screenshot is from the network and related to outlook 2007. This is not the original one.

I have attached the original now ( it is in Hebrew so I uploaded one with the same issue from the network ..)

As you can see the Advanced Search field are grayed out.  ( it also called "Common Properties" )

I have already tried to Re install the "Windows Search" Component and rebooted the server but no luck.

As I mention, the fields are available only when users are connected to server number 1,

When they connect to servers 2 and 3 its become grayed out :-(

As for the Tools-> Trust Center-> Add-ins and make sure the Windows Search Email Indexer add-in is installed.  - I have checked and its installed on all servers.

Any other Ideas please?

Please open Outlook on the problematic server and click Tools > Instant Search > Indexing status. When the Microsoft Office Outlook dialog appears, you should see the following:

Outlook has finished indexing all of your items.
New items are indexed when they arrive.
0 items remaining in "Mailbox -<<var>username</var>>"
0 items remaining across all open mailboxes.

Please tell me what report do you get.

In addition, please go to Control Panel > Indexing Options and check if "Microsoft Office Outlook" is included as a source to be indexed. If not, click Modify button to add "Microsoft Office Outlook" to the indexing list and then check the issue again.

Please let me know the result.

Hello,

here are the results:

1. When I Click on Tools > Instant Search > Indexing status.- Indexing status is stuck ( Screenshot ) :

2. As for the -Control Panel > indexing options - As I mentioned , this is A terminal Server so there are 30    Users using the outlook on this server. I can only view or check only 2 of them under "Microsoft Outlook" .

Screenshot :

Thanks again!

Hi,

Since cached mode is disabled by the GPO, indexing is no where in picture. Indexing is only in picture when you are using cached exchange mode where the OST file is present on HDD and needs to be indexed. Since the outlook clients are running in online mode the search is directly on the exchange server.

Since you have enabled search services, this should start working unless we see some problems In installation. Check for the following registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\outlook\search

Dword: PreventIndexingOutlook

value : 0

If this value is 1 please change to 0

This should resolve the issue.

However if the issue is still seen, I would suggest you to open phone support case with Microsoft

Hope this helps

Thanks

Hi,

any resolution on this issue?

I got a similar problem with my remote desktop server with outlook 2013.

anyway, I have started another thread.

I will check to see if the regkey is present on my server

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\outlook\search

Dword: PreventIndexingOutlook

value : 0

Cheers

Michael
