Outlook is no longer working in Windows 10. Operates in Safe Mode only

I have run across a serious issue with using Office 365 Outlook in Windows 10. it abruptly stopped working and it eliminated my profile. I had to run the repair option from control panel to get it working in safe mode once again and I had to restore my email settings. I have lost all my saved emails, contacts and calendar entries. I can only run from safe mode at this point. Has anyone run into this situation? Any thoughts on how to restore the data? Is there a planned update to Office 365 that will incorporate changes to Outlook for any issue such as this?

Hi,

Please try to run System File Checker or sfc Command to fix this issue.

To do this: Type CMDon search bar >> right click on Command Prompt >> Click on Run as administrator >> Type sfc /scannow and press enter.

To know more about "SFC", click here: http://www.itninja.com/blog/view/what-is-system-file-checker-tool-or-sfc

I ran that utility and this is what I received back

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.10240]
(c) 2015 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc/scannow Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time. Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete. Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>

I have a copy of the log file however it will not allow me to insert into this reply box.

Hi Roy,

Which type of email account are you using? IMAP, POP3 or Exchange? If you are using IMAP or Exchange account, your data are by default stored on the mail server. If you are using POP3 account and have the "Leave a copy of messages on the server" enabled, you can also get your emails back from the mail server.

"I had to run the repair option from control panel to get it working in safe mode" -- What repair option do you mean? Do you mean you created a new Outlook mail profile?

Since you can only run Outlook from safe mode, I'd recommend you check if there is any problematic add-ins that may cause this issue. To check this, go to File > Options > Add-ins, disable suspicious add-ins and then check if this issue persists.

Please let me know the result.

I sent the OffCAT report from the tool to tnmff@microsoft.com.....

I also checked the Add in's and I don't see anything out of the ordinary.

Thank you for the update, Roy. tnmff@microsoft.com is not used for collecting information, if you want to share some screenshots or log files to use, you can send it to GBSD TN Office Information Collection ibsofc@microsoft.com. (Please kindly enter the thread URL in the subject filed of the email so that it's easy for use to follow up on it)

The OffCAT is just part of my forum signature, but it's no harm to try using the tool. As far as I know, for any problems that are listed in the OffCAT report, you are provided a link to a public-facing article (usually a Microsoft Knowledge Base article) about each problem, please first try following these articles to fix the listed problems.

Please do not just check the add-ins, you can try disabling all the add-ins to see if the problem persists. To do this, please follow:

1. In Outlook, click File > Options > Add-ins.

2. Select COM Add-ins from the Manage box, and then click Go.

3. Click to clear the check box for any add-ins that you want to disable.

4. Click OK, and then restart Outlook.

In addition, please provide more details as I required in my last reply so that we can resolve the problem more efficiently. I'm quoting the questions here:

"Which type of email account are you using? IMAP, POP3 or Exchange? If you are using IMAP or Exchange account, your data are by default stored on the mail server. If you are using POP3 account and have the "Leave a copy of messages on the server" enabled, you can also get your emails back from the mail server.

"I had to run the repair option from control panel to get it working in safe mode" -- What repair option do you mean? Do you mean you created a new Outlook mail profile?"
