Outlook hanging
Hi We have SBS 2003 with service pack 2 and Exchange Version: 6.5.7226.0. Most morningsaround 5:30am people start to get message that says that outlook is trying to retrieve email from exchange. Outlook at this stage hangs up. We need to reboot the server to reactivate the emails. On the Application log we get the following message - Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: OAL Generator Event ID: 9331 Date: 09/07/2008 Time: 05:45:50 User: N/A Computer: CARRONSBS Description: OALGen encountered error 8004011b (internal ID 5020179) accessing the public folder store while generating the offline address list for address list '\Global Address List'. - Default Offline Address List I cannot find anything specific on the web relating to the error and internal ID Can you please help

Hello Bob, Is it happening sharp at 5:30AM or round about that? Are users able to access mailbox through OWA? I feel 9331 is not related to this problem, which is related to OAB generation. Is Scalable Networking pack feature disabled on Exchange Server? If it is enable then you may face below problems. You experience intermittent RPC communications failures. Some Outlook clients may be unable to connect to Exchange. You need to set below registry keys to disable it. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters] "EnableTCPChimney"=dword:00000000 "EnableTCPA"=dword:00000000 "EnableRSS"=dword:00000000 Further information: Windows 2003 Scalable Networking pack and its possible effects on Exchange

Clarify: OL hang on a specific time, server got event 9331 Collect info: 1. Confirm version: windows client, Outlook and SP 2. In that specific time, affected users scope? 3. Users are using Cache Mode or Online Mode? How's condition when it switchs to different Mode? Troubleshooting for Outlook: 1. Disable firewall and run affected users OL in safe mode during that time <Start->Run->Outlook.exe /safe>. This can disable most of 3rd-party Add-ins from running, help to isolate the cause 2. Set affected users mail profile to unaffected users PC. Check the result in that time. Isolate issue to server or client side Resolutions for event 9331: 1. Follow the KB 922255 to configure the server, then perform OAB download on OL Notes: OALGen next generates the OAL clients will perform a full OAB download. After that time the registry key should be removed to prevent further full downloads 2. Recreate OAB a. Deleted the OAB->wait for replica across the DC's b. Create a new OAB->set it as default c. In the Properties of public store->Replication tab->set Replication interval as always run d. In the Properties of OAB Version 2, OAB Version 3a and OAB Version 4-> Replication tab->set Replication message priority as Urgent e. Rebuild new OAB f. Point new OAB to mailbox store, in the Properties of mailbox store g. Restart IS and SA service h. Download OAB and check References: KB 922255: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922255/en-us
