Outlook disconnects minutes after opening
We have Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2003. Onmy machine, Outlook opens and emails can be opened. After 3-4 minutes a dialogue box appears to connect to the server. I enter my network username and password and all works well. After a while a message appears from the task bar that says connection to the server has been re-established. The network guys can't find any unusual settings or error messages. Any ideas on why this would happen? Thanks.

Hi Steve, First, please let us know if the issue only occurs on your account or all users in the organization have this issue. If only happen on your computer, does this issue occurs frequently or it happened just once. Please try to create a new profile and start outlook in Safe Mode to test the issue. If the issue persists, please let me know if you can find any related errors in event log. If the issue occurs on lots of users in the organization. Please paste the related event log errors in Exchange server here for our further discussion. I await your reply. Thanks, Elvis ====== How to======== Create a new profile =========== How to create a new e-mail profile in Outlook 2007 and in Outlook 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918/en-us Run Outlook in Safe mode ========================= The Safe Mode will disable all add-ins or extensions that will not start, or a corrupted resource, file, registry, or templates. Click Start->Run, Type "Outlook /Safe" (Without quotation marks and there is a space between "Outlook" and "/Safe") and press Enter. Does the problem occur in Outlook Safe mode? If the problem doesn't occur this time, please select Tools->Trust Center-> Add-In Tab -> COM Add-ins and click GO. Then clear all the checkboxes, add one check back each time to the list of Add-In, restart Outlook, and repeat the above procedure. Once the issue reappears again, we can determine which add-in causes this problem and then disable it. (NOTE: Maybe some of them cannot be unmarked, if there is, please bypass them)

Elvis, Thanks for the reply and especially the how-to. I will give it a try. I can tell you my machine is the only one with the problem and it happens every time I open Outlook. I will post the results of my tests.

Elvis, Here's what we did: Set up a new profile, ran in safe mode, and did a reinstall of Outlook 2003. Testing was done between each step but with the same results. All settings look correct. There are no COM add-ins. Any other ideas? Thanks.

If there are any interruptions in communication to the Exchange server you will see this error. Common reasons we've encountered are: Problem - Flakey wireless connection. Answer - Use a wired connection or move closer to the Access point. Problem - Laptop using both a wireless connection and a wired connection randomly gets the prompt. Answer - Pick One connection and disconnect the other. Problem - NIC having random errors. Answer - Replace NIC or update drivers. Problem - Bad/poor network connection. Answer - Try a different connection Problem - Outlook Anywhere (aka - RPC over HTTP) set up to use fast Ethernet connection. Answer - Change setting to use only slow connection. I hope this helps.
