Outlook clients have older version of Global Address Book
Hi All
We are running Exchange 2007 SP1 and Outlook 2007. Most clients use cached Exchange mode.
We have a strange problem where some of those clients seem to be stuck on an older version of the Address Book. Others are fine. I had some questions I was hoping someone could help with -
1. If a client is using cached Exchange mode, will they automatically be using the OAB?
2. Is there anyway to check on the client which OAB (i.e. when it was generated) it is using?
3. Is there anyway on the client to force a a download of the latest OAB?
4. What is the period that the OAB is distributed to clients? Is it every 24 hours for all clients, randomly dispersed etc?
5. Any OAB troubleshooting tools people can recommend? I recall OABGen, not sure if there are any new ones?
(I know there is a similar question open for Exchange 2010, but this is Exchange 2007 specific - if the same applies, please let me know and I'll close this thread down)

Yes.

You can check the date on the *.oab files on the machine. They
shouldn't be more than a day or two old (roughly).

It's an option on the "Tools" menu. Just mashing the "F9" key usually
works, too.

The OAB is downloaded by the client, usually when Outlook starts, but
not more often than once every 24 hours. If the intial downlad is
unsuccessful then Outlook randomizes the retry time (so it would be
unlikely that every OL wouuld retry the download at the same time).

Well, if some clients download it and some don't it's not likely to be
a problem withe the OAB generation. You could try deleting the *.oab
files from the local machine and then start Outlook. If the *.oab
files reappear you'll know the OAB download stuff is working and
whatever the problem is it's probably local to the client.
If you suspect there's a problem with the OAB generation, start here:
