Outlook clients can not connect to Exchange 2003 server
I am running Windows 2003 Enterpise and Exchange Server 2003. I can connect to the webmail just fine. However I can not get Outlook to connect. I can set up the profile and it resolves the server address and the email name just fine. I get prompted for username and password but everytime I try to open the mailbox I get an error saying the Exchange server is unavailable. I get this error on 2 different computers so I am pretty sure it is not client specific. Anyone have any suggestions? I have been looking for answers for 3 days now. Never had this problem before. Oh yeah the clients and the server are on different domains without any relationship. Thanks

Hi, the clients and the server are on different domains ? without any relation ? do you mean that the clients are in Domain B and the exchange is in domain A ? and domain B and A has two different Forests ? are they in Root / Child Domain hirarcy ? how you are accessing OWA from client Domain ? are you using internet for that ? or internal DNS which hosts a zone for other domain (server domain) ? please explain more about your network infrastructue and how the clients are accessing OWA and how you are trying to connect to outlook from client domain? did you try to provide the credentials in the "Domain\User" format ? not "User" only format ? if not, please try the "Domain\User" format. does your clients accounts resides on client domain or server domain ? and which credentials you are providing ? if you are in a root/child domain hirarchy and your exchange server on a domain and your users or accounts on another domain, then you need to prepare the domain where the users resides , by running exchange setup with /DomainPrep switch. as a quick check, is Windows Firewall on Exchange is Enabled ? with the option "No Exceptions" selected ? if yes, can you remove the "No Exceptions" option and try to connect ? if still the same, disable the Windows Firewall on Exchange Server and test.
