Outlook Standard 2010 (14.0.7143.5000) on Terminal Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1

Hello!

I have a problem with an Outlook Installation on a Terminal Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1.

The problem occurring for some users is, that the search function is not working. Entering the keyword and hitting enter results immediately in the warning: "The process couldn't be completed. Object not found" (german original: 'Der Vorgang konnte nicht abgeschlossen werden. Ein Objekt wurde nicht gefunden').

We are using Outlook with an Zarafa MAPI Connection to an external E-Mail provider, the accounts are using the mailbox in the 'online' mode (due to slim space on the terminal server, we are not using any caching).

What I tried in order to fix it:

- Repair Outlook

- Reinstall Outlook

- Reconfigure the E-Mailaccount for the profile

Nothing solved the problem. The current workaround is, once per day, the outlook needs to be opened and closed, afterwards opened again - result: the search function is working for the users.

Do you have any ideas?

Looking forward hearing from you.

Best

Hi,

When Outlook is in Online Mode, the search feature passes the query to the Microsoft Exchange server, utilizing the index available on the server. However, you are using Outlook with an Zarafa MAPI Connection to an external E-Mail provider, this is beyond my knowledge.

One suggestion is to disable the firewall and anti-virus program temporarily, then try searching again. This will check if they are the reason that disconnects the query from Outlook to the server.

By the way, if the users logon the webmail and search emails, does any issue occur?

Hi,

thanks for your quick reply. I appreciate that!

I will try to turn off anti-virus and the firewall.

Two important information, I forgot to tell you about:

1) I can search the accounts via web interface without any problems.

2) I installed an outlook client once on a Windows 7 machine and I hadn't any hassle with the above mentioned problems.

I assume its due to the combination terminal server <-> outlook 2010. Even if this combination was working for 1,5 years without any problems.

Best,

Hi,

Sorry for replying late.

As mentioned, I'm not familiar with your scenario - I'm not sure how the search function works when Outlook is in Online Mode with an Zarafa MAPI Connection to an external E-Mail provider. But since it works after the restart of Outlook, which means it works at the beginning, but something somehow stopped it.

Please disable the suspicious add-ins in Outlook to check the result again.

We can also perform a clean boot to troubleshoot if there are any background programs interfering with Outlook search.
