Outlook Crash on Infopath Task Reassignment

Using Outlook Pro 2010 or 2013. SharePoint 2013

I have a task that is an OOTB workflow approval task created on SharePoint.

The Task gets emailed to someone within the company. They open the email and click "Open this Task..." from the top of the email.

The form downloads and opens fine, but if the user clicks "Reassign Task" and in the box "Reassign Task To" type in a name to reassign the task to, then clicks the verify person button, or if they click the address book button, Outlook crashes, showing "Microsoft Outlook has stopped working" dialog box.

In the event viewer I see the following:

Error - Application Error:

If I open up the task in IE on the website, everything works as expected.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Chad

Hi Chad,

By "If I open up the task in IE on the website, everything works as expected", do you mean you can reassign the task successfully from the webmail interface of your email account?

As for Outlook crashing issue, we may try to collect the dump file to find the root cause. Please see this article:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/juanand/archive/2011/03/20/analyzing-a-crash-dump-aka-bsod.aspx

You can try to analyze dump by yourself if you would like to, you can also send it to us via GBSD TN Office Information Collection ibsofc@microsoft.com. (The email subject should be the thread link.)

Since this issue is also related to SharePoint, I'd recommend you also post in the following forum to try your fortune:

Hi Steve.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have sent off an email.

As for "Works as expected": I can open the task in IE and successfully reassign the item to another person.

Thanks,

Chad

Thanks for the update, Chad. Based on my deep research, this issue is more related to the People Picker control, and we can do few things on Outlook side. I'd recommend you post a new question in the following forum to get further assistance:

Using SharePoint Designer, InfoPath and Other Customizations

The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Thank you for your understanding.
