Outlook Client Cache bandwidth consumption 2010 exchange / outlook
this is the typical server guy pointing at the network guys with the network guy pointing back at the server guy post.. And i am pretty sure i already have my answers but figured i would post any way our issue and see if there are any new recomendations or suggestions .. Our main DC is in the States @ 800 mailboxes 1 CA/UM server 2 mailbox servers .. Multiple sites over WAN/MPLS (45MB each site) .. network monitored with solarwinds and i am currenty implementing the SCSM 2012 Stack .. My issue is everytime a user moves to a new desk which can happen / or user comes in after a fewdays off .. Solarwinds shows the spike of data from the CA to the local desktops of upto 3 - 7 GBs as it caching the data .. i run all my mailboxes defaulted @ 2gb max .. When this happens and multiple users are logging in this bandwidth spike from my exchange server can show say 25GB of data coming out of it to local desktops which the network team says is causing a degradation in service for other apps/ call issues etc .. over the past few days we have implemented a GP that turns of Cache mode on desktops (not laptops) in hopes to resolve the issue .. I am using Outlook anywhere but but most of the sites internet goes back out the main DC .. We have a site in Manilla that has local internet out there and i have asked the dekstop team to ensure OutlookAnywhere is enabled to use HTTPS over fast networks (check box) After this i am kind of at my last rope with my network team.. so i am hoping that someone out here has some suggestions on how to handle this .. If there are any recommendations in toplogy change or something i can tell the network team to do .... like turn of solarwinds.. lol HELP A FRUSTRATED EXCHANGE AMIN ... Thanks ! David Ulrich

If a user moves to another desk and cached mode is enabled, his mailbox will sync with that Outlook instance. This is precisely a case where cached mode should be disabled.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."
