Outlook Auto-configured with wrong email address
We just installed Exchange 2010 in our environment. When we try to create a new Outlook profile from any domain-join workstation, the Outlook setup wizard automatically fills in the email address. This is great. But for some reason, the email address is wrong. Our internal domain is domain.local and our external domain is domain.com. The primary email address for each user is firstname.lastname@domain.com. But Outlook fills in firstname.lastname@domain.local instead. We do not have @domain.local defined in any Email Address policy. So I was wondering why Outlook is pulling the domain.local as the email address and how to change it to use @domain.com. Alan Wang

IIRC this is because the windowsemailaddress does not match the primary SMTP address. If you look at the user in AD, in the general tab you see the email address field does it match firstname.lastname@domain.com or is it domain.local? Can you see if you recently installed Outlook 2007 update 2412171? This has caused these issues. If so remove the update and test. Outlook team figured they would change the behavior and used the UPN instead of the SMTP address for autodiscover. You could change the users UPN suffix to be the same as SMTP donain or remove the patch or wait for a new patch to revert the behavior lasse at humandata dot se, http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com

Tried to remove the patch from couple workstations and it all failed. Had to remove and reinstall Outlook without the patch to fix the problem. Is there anything special to follow in order to remove this patch?Alan Wang

There have been few reports that they had to reinstall outlook without the patch. However most were able to just remove the patch and get it to work. I would test on couple machines to see if it was an isolated incident.James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com
