Outlook Anywhere logon prompt
Hi, Have a customer who runs Exchange Server 2010 and Outlook 2007/2010 using outlook anywhere. Everything related to Outlook Anywhere is set up to basic authentication (TMG, /rpc vDir) When they fire up Outlook they receive a basic auth prompt which they should - but its populated with the SMTP adress. The users need change the login from e-mailadress to domain\username and then type the password. Is there a way to stick with the e-mail adress and just type the password? If so, what do I need to change in AD on the users, what to change on TMG and /RPC vDir? Any hints appreciated! thx!

This isn't a server question, it's a desktop question. Check "Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Manage Your Credentials" and remove the "remembered" credential. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Hi Fred, Unlike OWA, we can not setup credential format for Outlook Anywhere. Rich might be right, please take a try. IF the issue continues, please create a new Outlook profile and then try again. Hope it is helpfu. Fiona Liao TechNet Community Support

Hi, No it has not been solved. We have like 1000 users that are part of active directory in terms of their computer has access and is attached to the network. then we have about 500 users spread across the nordic region (several countries) that only have outlook installed, so no connection to AD at all. Another aspect of this is that our TMG is not part of AD. The TMG is used by several customers that we are hosting. Thats why we are running basic and not NTLM, which we would have prefered. anyway around this?

That dialog box is populated by the client when it receives the challenge from TMG, not by TMG. Are you using FBA with basic authentication? Or are you just passing the connection straight through to the CAS machines? Either way, it's still the client that populates the credentials fields. >We have like 1000 users that are part of active directory in terms of their computer has access and is attached to the network. then we have about 500 users spread across the nordic region (several countries) that only have outlook installed, so no connection to AD at all. > >Another aspect of this is that our TMG is not part of AD. Thanks for your update and letting me know your concern. I think you can still enable NTLM through TMG. Refer to: http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2011/01/17/using-ntlm-outlook-anywhere-authentication-through-forefront-tmg-and-uag.aspxFiona Liao TechNet Community Support
