Outlook Anywhere 401 unauthorized - Exchange in a hosted scenario

Hi

I urgently need support!

Our environment:

Exchange in a resource forest with different customers (planned) on that Exchange Server. For the moment there are only some test customers.

I created a upn suffix per customer, so that they can login using their email address.
They have all normal mailboxes. We have our mailboxes on the same Exchange Server as well, but we have linked mailboxes.

We connect to the mailbox as every other customer using outlook anywhere.

Problem:

I am unable to connect with a customer account using outlook anywhere. I used the connectivity analyzer to test outlook connectivity, and received the error HTTP 401 Unauthorized response was received from the remote Unknown, while doing the same with one of our users (linked mailbox) works without a problem.

I can use the upn as well as domain\username nothing works.
Outlook Web App, however, is working properly for all users, using upn and domain\username.
ActiveSync works as well.

By trying the same with outlook I receive the login pop-up, but my credentials are not accepted, whether I use the upn nor domain\username. When I click on cancel, it shows me the mailboxguid@testdomain.com, so autodiscover works, but I cannot authenticate.

In the IIS log from the default website shows me:

I would be very grateful if someone could give me a tip.

Hi Peter,

According to your post, I understand that user with a upn suffix cannot use Outlook Anywhere connect to Exchange server and get error HTTP 401 Unauthorized response was received from the remote Unknown. However same user with linked e-mail address works fine.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.

How do you add this suffix for per account, accept domain and e-mail address policy?
Basic on the error message, it seems caused by the authentication and SSL configuration of Outlook Anywhere.
Please run below command to double confirm:
Get-OutlookAnywhere | FL Identity,*Auth*,*SSL*
Get-ExchangeCertificate | FL Identity,Issuer,Services,Subject,Status

Thanks
