Outlook 2016: Cannot Open Message by Double Clicking After Running Search on Inbox

Throughout the technical preview for Office 2016, I found the following error in Outlook while running it on several machines.  The problem is still not fixed as of Outlook version: 16.0.4229.1014.

Description of Problem/Bug: Run a search from within the Inbox of Outlook.  Results show messages but messages cannot be opened via double-click; they must be opened via right-click and selecting "Open."  Also, after the search is run, the Reading Pane does not work until clearing the search.

If "Show as Conversations" is selected (as in pic below), you cannot double-click and open any message in the Inbox after a search was performed.  Unchecking the selection results in allowing double clicking on any message after a search.

Can you tell me why this is so?  Will it be fixed?  By the way, I did disable and add-ins and this mattered not.

Yes, I've tried Online Repair and it changes nothing.  This condition occurs on multiple machines, which is why I contend that it is a bug.  I believe this is easily replicated.  If you have Outlook 2016, please try this and see if it happens to you. Make sure that the "Show as Conversations" box is checked and then run a search on your inbox.  See if you can double-click on any message that is listed after running a simple search.

Hi,

I checked "Show as Conversations" and did a search in the Inbox, I could open the messages by double-clicking.

My version is 16.0.4229.1011, I will update it and check the result later.

Hi,

Updated to 16.0.2449.1017, still I can't reproduce the issue.

As the Conversation is a view setting, I suggest you start Outlook with the /cleanviews command:

Press Win + R, type "outlook.exe /cleanviews" in the Run dialog, press Enter.

Outlook will reset default view, all custom views you created will be lost. Check the result again.

Hello,

I must report it is now working and I do not know why.  I've had this problem for a couple of months on two Windows 10 machines that are both running Outlook 2016.  In fact, when running the Outlook 2016 preview, I reported the problem several times using the face icon.  Again, why it has cleared up on both machines as of today, I have no idea.

Thanks for your responses.  This issue can be considered closed.
