Outlook 2013 takes so long to connect to the printer when printing a email with pictures

Is there a fix for this? I have seen this problem in Outlook 2010 also. If the email has a lot of embedded pictures (advertisements) it will lockup Outlook. If you wait long enough it might or might not work.

This is a Windows 7 computer and Office Home & Business 2013

Thanks,

Dennis

Hi,

Does the print preview show the images properly?

Please make sure you have installed the latest printer driver. Also try to change to another printer to check the result.

In addition, please try printing in Outlook safe mode to confirm if its caused by any problematic add-ins. Press Windows key + R, type outlook.exe /safe in the Run box and press Enter.

Please let me know the result.

Print preview shows nothing at all. I disabled all add-ins and still the same thing. Also its a brand new printer with the most updates drivers. I have been reading a lot about this problem on the web and it seems like when outlook is trying to contact the server for information on the pictures that's what is causing the problem.

Here is a link to a post about the same problem but with Outlook 2010 and its on TechNet.

Hi,

Thank you for your update.

Ive noticed that issue in TechNet forum, but most of them described issues within Office 2010. I have tested in my Outlook 2013 and everything seems worked fine.

Whats the brand of model of your printer? Does the printer connect using local USB or network?

Please try the following troubleshooting steps to help us narrow down the cause:

1. Temporarily turn off you firewall/security programs to check the result.

2. Try printing the email message in OWA to check the result.

3. Open your Outlook and go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Automatic Download, and clear the check box before Permit downloads in e-mail messages from senders and to recipients defined in the safe senders and recipients list used by the junk e-mail filters, restart Outlook and then print the message again to check the result.

4. Perform a windows clean boot to troubleshoot the issue.

Please feel free to post back and let me know the result.

Sorry for not replying sooner. This is on a customers computer. I think it is a canon printer and it is on the network not USB. It seems to only happen on emails that the pictures are linked to the picture. Like a Staples advertisement email. other emails that have pictures that are inserted into the email do not have this problem. If you have any other suggestion I will try them the next time I go to the customers house.

I'm having the same problem on a client's computer:

Brand new Windows 8.1 machine with brand new Epson 412 printer - all the latest updates etc.

When printing from every other application I can print without issue.

I can also print successfully any email that has no embedded pictures and any email that has all the embedded pictures that have successfully downloaded. I cannot print any email where I have either chosen to not download the pictures (using the default security set up by Outlook) or where the pictures have failed to download successfully.

So, on those emails I select File>Print and everything just hangs. As the client is paying me by the hour I've only waited once for it to time out and got the error message "printer not available".

Thanks

Judi

I'm having this issue too. When my user prints from Outlook 2013 (Office 365 subscription), the program goes into "Connecting to Printer" and hangs. My user can print from any other program without it hanging, including Word 2013.

We're on Windows 7, using Office 2013 (Office 365 subscription), printing to a Xerox 4620 networked printer. The drivers are updated to the most recent version. I've uninstalled and re-added the driver, rebooted, etc.
Any suggestions to resolve this?

I'm having the exact same issue.  Tried to run a repair on Office because Excel is having the "Connecting to printer".  Hasn't really helped.
