Outlook 2013 sending email using template not working properly...

I've created several email templates by doing the following:

  • open new message
  • add some tekst in the body
  • save as > oft file

Now when I open such oft file I add some modifications in the body text and send the message. However, the send item does not contain the modifications I just made, only the text that was included in the template.

We're using Outlook 2013 SP1 (with all microsoft updates installed) with Exchange 2013 SP1 standalone server. Is this a Outlook or Exchange issue and how can I resolve this?

Hi,

How did you open the .oft template? Did you do it by double clicking or navigating to it via New Items > More Items > Choose Form in Outlook?

Do you have any add-in installed? Please go to Outlook File > Options > Add-ins and disable all add-ins, and then test the issue again.

Please also try to temporarily turn off your antivirus and then try sending the email.

Please let me know the result.

Hello Steve,

I've tried both, double clicking and navigating to choose a form. As you suggested I've disabled all Add-Ins and disabled antivirus to no avail.

Hi,
As per the information and details provided by you, the only thing that I can figure out is that you must follow these steps to create a template and then try.

1.    In File menu, click on new and then click Mail message.

You can also use a shortcut key to create a new email message i.e Ctrl+Shift+M.

2.    In message body, enter the content which you want to add in your template.

3.    In the message window, click on Save AS.

4.    In the Save As dialog box, in the Save as type list, click on Outlook Template.

5.    In the File Name box, type a name of your template and then click on Save.

By default location of template: -

    Windows Vista     c:\users\username\appdata\roaming\microsoft\templates

    Microsoft Windows XP     c:\documents and settings\username\application data\microsoft\templates

I hope this information will help you. Correct me if the information that I am having is wrong.

Thanks and regards

Hi Remco,

Please also try to start Outlook in safe mode and test again to check if this issue continues. To start Outlook in safe mode, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type outlook /safe and press Enter.

If problem continues in Outlook safe mode, please try creating a new mail profile and reconfigure your email account, then creating a .oft template to test this issue again. For your convenience:

Hi Remco,

Does this issue happen to all .oft templates you created?

In which format did you send your email messages? Please try switching among HTML/RTF/Plain Text and test again.

In addition, we may try to perform a Windows clean boot to troubleshoot if this issue is related to software conflict:

Hello Steve,

One step closer, it turns out that the issue only applies to HTML formated .oft files. All works well with RTF and Plain Tekst .oft files...

Hi,

This is most probably an exchange issue and I am pretty sure that you would have not seen such issue in Exchange 2010 . Please check the issue with new OFT file.

If issue is seen with new OFT file as well, then I would appreciate if you can open phone support case with Microsoft as we need to take multiple logs which is not possible via this Forum support.

To open phone support case , please contact customer central on 1-800-936-4900 or you can also create phone support case by visiting our website http://support.microsoft.com/oas

Hope this helps

Thanks

We are having the exact same problem.

Exchange 2013 CU6

Outlook 2013 32bit on Windows 7 Pro 64bit

create new OFT and tried Choose Form or even double-click, edit some fields on the email. Sent Items does not show the changes i've made.

If OFT is created with HTML format, problem exists

If OFT is created with RTF format, it works, but some formatting is lost. But it works.

Turned ON Exchange Cache Mode and used OFT with HTML, changes stay when i send the email

Turned OFF Exchange Cache Mode and used OFT with HTML, changes are lost with i send the email
