Outlook 2013 printing issue

Running Outlook 2013 32 bit on a Windows 7 Professional 64 bit installation. When trying to print an email (either from preview pane or opened message), the Print button for the default network printer is greyed out. The printer is online and available, nothing holding in the queue, and able to print to this printer when switching over to Word, Excel, or other non-Office program and trying to print from there.

Steps taken:

RemovedtheOutlprntfilefromC:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\ . Tried to print, same problem.

Deleted the existing profile, and recreated. Same issue remains.

Changed default printer, button remains greyed out.

Tried in Safe Mode, same problem.

Ran an online repair of Office. Issue remains.

At times, the printer button goes normal and is not greyed out. But when trying to print then, it brings up the print info window, and then sits there, not printing, and eventually gives the error "Printer not ready" At this time, you can print to the same printer from other programs, both Office and non-Office.

This to me looks like a bug in Outlook 2013. Any ideas?

And given what I see on the site here, please do NOT mark this as answered, until an actual fix is established. I've noticed one Microsoft person will post something to try, and half a day or a full day later, another Microsoft employee marks that as the fix. I will respond and tell you when it is fixed.

Hi,

Can you print other Outlook items? (Such as Calendar, Contacts)

In addition, an active issue may cause this problem, please try to reactivate your Office package and check the issue again.

If your Office has been activated correctly and the issue still persists, please try to remove and reinstall the default printer to check the result.

Thanks.

I am out of town right now, but back tomorrow. I will check if other items will print. After I did the online repair, it requested I activate, and I did so.

I am not sure if removing the default printer and re-installing will work, as it prints fine from all other programs, while Outlook still won't print. Plus, even switching the printer from the default to another does not enable printing in Outlook. I can try that, but I do not see that is the issue.

Thanks for the reply, and I will let you know tomorrow.

Upon logging in this morning, the print button is working fine. Not sure if one of the previous attempts actually fixed it, and the system just required a reboot or not. I am monitoring over the next couple days. Will update then.

Issue is back. I tried removing and re-adding printer, this made no difference. Cannot print any items from Outlook (calendar entries, etc.). I also disabled caching in Outlook, and restarted it. The printer button showed normally, but upon trying to print, the print dialog box came up, and then errored out with "Printer not ready." Upon clearing error, the print button was greyed out again.

Went to Devices and printers while that dialog was up, could print a test page fine, so printer is not the issue.

Any ideas?

We had a similar issue. Unable to print from Outlook 2013 without receiving the "Printer not ready" message (32/64 Win 7 Pro).

This changed worked for us, by selecting the Advanced properties on the printer and changing the default setting "Start printing immediately" to "Start printing after last page spooled".

I hope it works for you, good luck in your quest!

Usual disclaimer; use at your own risk.

No help in my case. Other printers on the network with the same queue settings do NOT crash Outlook, just a couple of color ones. Ran OCAT 1.2, wasted some time with Chat, checked driver versions, etc. all with no fix. Nayone else have any success yet? Problem does NOT exist in 2007/2010

I have exact problem with Outlook 2013-prints fine in Word
April 1st, 2014 11:47am

I'm having similar issues with a single user.  Here are things I've noticed:

- Printing from File > Print will send it through to the print queue on the print server, but it never prints

- Quick Print DOES work.

- Other programs print fine.

Can anyone confirm that their non-printing user can use Quick Print successfully?

Are you using McAfee Enterprise with enhanced protection turned on?

We were bashing our heads with this problem yesterday but checking the McAfee log showed it blocking Outlook 2013 from printing things from the temporary folder. So I imagine that unlike Word and apparently every other piece of software we are using, Outlook 2013 for some reason creates a file in the temporary folder before trying to print it.  I believe that it is this difference which may be causing the problem many of you are having.

Another suggestion which I have had before was caused by USB blocking software that some businesses use to prevent their employees from stealing company data. For these you need to allow (possibly bidirectional) printing on the port.

I hope this helps

I have run into the same issue with a user I support

I have ran into the same issue where I am able to use the quick print option however I am not able to print preview.  I confirmed this by adding the print preview to the tool bar.  I crashes each time previewer is launched.

I am able to print in all the other programs such as word and excel fine.

Has there been any updates?

Thanks

This resolved the 'Printer not ready' for us.

Added an exception for just the machine.

Outlook creates a .tmp file located within: C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Temp\<filename>.tmp which was being blocked.

Weirdly, we have multiple users that have Office 2013 package that have never been affected. This was on a machine that had only Outlook 2013 installed.

How/where do you add and "exception for just the machine"?
