Outlook 2013 missing e-mail in Inbox, compared to Outlook.com

I am using Outlook 2013 with an Outlook.com account (upgraded from live.com).

This morning I noticed I was missing an e-mail message in my Inbox. There was one e-mail that's very important to me that I already read using Outlook.com, and this morning I wanted to read it again in Outlook 2013 and take actions on it. However, the e-mail did not appear in Outlook 2013. Afraid of having lost this mail, I logged on to Outlook.com and the mail was this still there.

I started comparing my Inbox contents between Outlook 2013 and Outlook.com and noticed multiple e-mails missing in Outlook 2013. Just random, there does not seem to be any pattern.

The missing e-mails are not in the Junk e-mail folder, and I don't see any errors or 'Sync Issues' (I checked the folder). Outlook 2013 is just saying "All folders are up to date".

Does anyone else experience this issue?

I also am missing email...but found some of them in the Important folder.

I am using Windows 8 x64 ent edition, office 2013. Both are clean installs, no upgrade, no migration.

Emails do not go to my gmail inbox, randomly, but go to the Important folder...

I have checked the Options choice under File...nada.

I have checked for any rules that might have been set.... nada...

No idea...

I checked this on my system, but I don't have a folder "Important" or anything similar. E-mail messages are still out of sync between Outlook.com and Outlook 2013.

I will try creating a new mail profile (with a new OST file) to see if that helps.

Hello,

How do you configure your live account? If you were setup it with IMAP/POP3, please move it, go to account setting and recreate live account with Exchange ActiveSync to check if the issue still persists.

The server address is: m.hotmail.com

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the suggestions, however the profile was already configured with EAS using m.hotmail.com as the server. It was like this since I upgraded from Office 2010.

I think I have solved the problem by creating a new mail profile in Outlook, effectively forcing Outlook to re-sync all contents from m.hotmail.com to a new OST file. Now, Outlook.com and Outlook 2013 are in sync, and I even might have solved my contacts sync issue as well.

Thanks,

Marco

Glad to hear you've sorted it yourself!

I've tested to upgrade Outlook from 2010 to 2013 (with live account), Outlook would remain the two type of live account in Outlook. One is Exchange ActiveSync without server address configuration and the another one is IMAP. I have received many reports related to Outlook 2013 IMAP sync issue, for my personal opinion, there might be something conflict if the two type account coexist.

Again, thank you for your feedback.

Cheers,

I do not know how to solve it.

Hi there,

Are you still experiencing this issue since recreating your account in Outlook? I was experiencing the same issue so also recreated the account, this synced all email correctly up until that point but I still have the same problem with email received since that date.

I have isolated the cause though - if I read any email on my phone (also using ActiveSync) then the email is marked as read in Outlook.com and subsequently isn't synced to Outlook 2013. This also corresponds to what you are saying in that it was a message you had read online which was subsequently not synced with Outlook 2013. I would have thought this would have been a very common issue if this is indeed the cause but haven't found much information anywhere of people experiencing the same. I'm tempted to try Exchange 365 but does this run on the same fundamental platform so I end up with the same problems?

Also, as a side note, I have also experienced a problem where occasionally emails that are sent from Outlook 2013 are not saved into Sent Items (either in Outlook 2013 or Outlook.com) so there is no record of them being sent.

I would be interested as to whether others are experiencing any of these issues - and have people had better luck with Exchange 365?

Thanks,

Richard

Hi Richard,

I do have some occassional e-mail missing in Outlook 2013. Today I compared the Inbox contents of Outlook 2013 en Outlook.com and yes, one e-mail is missing in Outlook 2013. And again, I cannot find anything special about this e-mail. I might have read it online or on my Windows Phone first, but that is also true for many other e-mails which do sync to Outlook 2013.

This whole thing made me avoid Outlook 2013 if possible, and using Outlook.com on a daily basis.

I had the same problem, after upgrading from Office 2010 to 2013. I noticed I only had 150 emails in Office 2013 but in fact I had more than 4000 on Outlook.com Hotmail. Then I realize the upg somehow stopped using my ost file and created a new one. I tried to use my old ost but didn't work. I also had to delete the profile and create a new one. Sync seems to be slower than it was with O2010

I've also noticed this issue today.  I had read the messages through Outlook.com and then noticed that they were not synced to Outlook 2013.  I'm running on Windows 8 x64.

Hi,

I also have discovered I have the same problem.

Interesting though, I am running Windows 8, and when I use the Mail App from the start screen the missing emails are shown there.

Also, and I suspect this is a different issue, I have tried a repair on the account, (from within Outlooks Account settings), and it errors saying there is no network connection - which there obviously is. When I step though the account settings everything is fine.

May have a fix I think.

I searched for the missing email using the 'search all outlook items' option and found it. It had a category associated with it that didn't exist in Outlook (I added it from my Mac using outlook 2011). When I removed the category the missing email showed up in my inbox!

Russell,

I'm not sure categories are the answer, at least as far as my missing emails are concerned. I've checked and there are no categories on the emails I have missing.

Could it be that when you removed the category on the email(s) this caused it to be marked as changed and thus became a candidate, a far as EAS was concerned, for re-downloading?

I've now removed my account and set it up again, and now, at least currently, I have all the emails in my inbox. Obviously I'm a bit concerned as to whether I can trust Outlook in future though.

Still, if I get any more missing I'll try a "search all..." to see if it finds them. The other interesting thing is that I have Outlook 2013 on both my desktop and laptop. The emails were missing on the laptop (which I've now reset), but were there on the desktop (as they were on the mobile - also using EAS).

i got the same problem. I resynced and everything shows up, but that is not a fix, that is like a reset.

I was missing all e-mails from 2012. No idea what happened there. They were still present on Outlook.com

Also having missing emails in inbox for IMAP accounts with clean install of Windows 8 Pro WMC x64 and Office 2013 Pro Plus HUP x32 (as advised by Microsoft) on an SSD for systemroot and an HD for home path and AMD FX-8150 processor. An Exchange account had not been setup yet.

Outlook 2013 downloads all of the inbox emails for the two IMAP AOL accounts.  Unread count increases during download and is correct at download finish.  Soon after the download, the unread count will begin to decrement until only the last 30 to 60 days of emails are viewable in the inbox.  The IMAP ost file sizes do not change after the emails go missing.  Download is set to default All.  The missing emails appear to be in the inbox but just not viewable.  Using commonly occurring letters in Search in Current Inbox will make some of the emails appear but not all. Clearing the Search field will cause the emails to re-disappear.  I marked one of the disappearing emails as Unread but it also re-disappeared when the Search field was cleared. Part of the odd behavior is that using "to" in the Search for Current Inbox will cause synchronization logs to appear in the inbox email list.

I deleted the IMAP ost's and reopened Outlook 2013 as a workaround.  The initial try had involved "renaming" and both IMAP inboxes had missing emails. The second try deleted ost's and reopened Outlook without "renaming" accounts but had missing emails again. The third try resulted in the first IMAP account being stable and showing all emails for the last 25 months (at least for 48 hours so far).  However, the second IMAP account lost emails again.  Two different results at the same time in Outlook 2013.  The fourth try deleting the second and smaller IMAP ost and reopening Outlook resulted in an apparent stable inbox for now for both IMAP accounts.

The behavior seems to be the result of a corrupt filter on the inbox views.  Playing with the Search filter will reveal some but not all of the disappearing emails.  When the view filter is corrupted, only the last 30 to 90 days of emails will be visible.  The corruption affects the email inbox view after the inbox folder is downloaded and when the blank Search filter is automatically applied to the inbox view at the conclusion of the download or first use.  As the corrupt filter is being applied, the total Unread count can be seen decrementing and the inbox list shrinking.  The emails are not deleted but are non-viewable because of the corruption in the view filter.  This may be a design issue from when IMAP was ported from 2010 pst to 2013 ost.  OST was not originally designed to support IMAP accounts and may not be ready to fully support IMAP yet.  Hint to Microsoft: The ost Exchange caching may be corrupting the IMAP inbox unfiltered view.

Still searching for the combination of factors that causes or clears the view filter corruption.  However deleting and re-deleting the 2013 IMAP inbox ost's and restarting Outlook 2013 to re-download the IMAP inboxes into the recreated ost file will eventually after numerous tries produce what possibly appears to be stable IMAP inboxes.

Other Outlook 2013 IMAP email users may have different experiences from what I have experienced depending on their platform and preconditions and how these affect the malfunction.  Hopefully I have contributed enough information that Microsoft can start to discover and correct this issue.  Until then, delete is your only friend. Outlook Account Settings will show where the ost's are stored.  Making a copy of the ost file is easy insurance should the wrong ost be deleted such as the data files instead of deleting the inbox files.  Letting the inbox age by not being in the folder during or after download finishes for an hour may help to stabilize the folder.

My wife is missing emails  in her inbox for her Exchange ActiveSync account with a clean install of Windows 8 Pro x64, Office 2013 Pro Plus on an SSD for system root and an HD for Libraries (but not home path) and a Core 2 duo processor. The behavior is as you describe: playing with the search field will reveal some of the missing emails. (I cannot reproduce the behavior wrt 'to' in the search field).

Her problem cannot be related to IMAP, because she has an Exchange ActiveSync account.

I have the same problem - that random messages appear on Outlook.com but not in Outlook 2013.  For me, searching for the messages in all Outlook items does not actually reveal them.  Perhaps a coincidence, but the missing email I'm looking at now is the first one to appear in the Inbox and that I read on Outlook.com while Outlook 2013 was closed.  i.e., here's what I did:

1)  Sent an email (a new thread) using Outlook 2013, it correctly showed up in Sent Items in both Outlook 2013 and Outlook.com.

2)  Received a reply (the first reply on that thread) but read it on Outlook.com while Outlook 2013 was closed.

3)  Opened Outlook 2013, and the message never showed up in Inbox, despite being in the Inbox on Outlook.com.

BTW, after deleting the .ost file so that Outlook 2013 re-downloads all messages, the missing messages do show up properly in Outlook 2013 (but of course this is not a solution - there's a bug somewhere).

I've also had this problem over the past couple of months.  Random emails, generally ones I want to read the most, just don't show up.  Sometimes they do, I reply to it and when the person replies back, it doesn't come through.

I started using Windows 8 a couple months ago and shortly after that opened a outlook.com account.  I use gmail and use "keep a copy on the server".  Random emails do not show up on my desktop Outlook.  I see them if I log in to gmail.  Today I checked Outlook.com and the missing ones are there.  I don't have any folders set up.  I deleted my account on Outlook.com to see if that will help my desktop version since I use that the most.

If someone figures this out, please let me know.  For now I'll watch to see if it was the Outlook.com account causing the problem.  thanks

The Outlook Product Team found a client side bug that causes email not to show properly in Outlook 2013.  This is specifically for Hotmail, Outlook.com.  They are working on a fix.  Once I know when the fix will ship I will update the forum thread.

Hopefully solution will come soon.  This seems to be getting worse for me over the last several days.  Yesterday I noticed I had "Organize by Threads" turned on in my Iphone but had "Conversation" unchecked in Outlook 2013...any chance this has something to do with some emails showing up on the phone (in threads) but not showing up in Outlook 2013?

Thanks

Gabriel from MSFT, I am experiencing the same symptoms on Outlook 2010.  Does the same bug exist there?  If yes, then is the team working on a fix for 2010 also?  Thanks.

Dear MSFT team,

I'm using Outlook 2013 and I'm missing many emails compared to Outlook 2010 and the web interface- it's ridiculous... seriously ?!! What did I pay for? The only thing that an email client should do is to get emails.. come on...

Anyhow, if it helps, I'm using Windows 8 64 with Outlook 2013 professional.

Please fix this bug ASAP.

Any planned date for the fix?

Best,

Eyal

I have the exact same issue, using Microsoft 7, Outlook 2013 Professional on a 32 bit platform.  We have a Groupwise server so all the messages are still present on that particular server as I'm using IMAP....thank goodness.  Emails will disappear sometimes if I reply (but not all the time) and throughout the day my inbox will regularly drop at least 10-15 messages.  Cannot find them by searching everything.  They do appear on the server.  Quite frustrating.

Just wondered if the proposed fix mentioned was KB2738013 (released in April)?

Although this seems to have resolved the duplicates issue mentioned, it still doesn't fix the missing emails problem?

I also am facing the same issue. Very frustrating. The other issue with Outlook 2013 is the inability to move emails between different outlook.com accounts as they use EAS. I cannot believe MS would release a product that limits productivity. It's also unfortunate to see that the above two problems have been there since November and still no fix. I really want MS to succeed with Windows 8, but these problems shouldn't occur.

Using the run command "OUTLOOK /Cleanviews" RUN command suggested at the link below (submitted earlier by WTarrasque), gives me similar behavior as described by Dukas in his 25 January entry.  Changing the Views Filter causes some apparently disappeared e-mail to be visible.

I am experiencing "read" messages in my inbox "disappearing" from Outlook 2013 (Office 365)/Win7 on my non-outlook.com IMAP email service.

This seems to confirm some of what Dukas stated; that this is at least partially rooted in the Inbox Views / filter and .ost files.

I have a similar problem. I bought a new laptop with windows 8 and pre-installed outlook 2013. I still have my old laptop with windows vista and outlook 2003. strangely i did not receive mails on the new laptop, the inbox was always empty. when i put the 2 computers side by side i saw, that mails were coming in on the new laptop first but they disappeared as soon as they appeared in the inbox of the old laptop. So they are visible only for 2 to 4  seconds (thats probably the technology gap of the last years :-))

I can send messages on my new machine and they are stored in the sent messages file. I suspected a wrong configuration but there were no filters set and a trouble shooter-program of my internet service provider confirmed the correct installation of the mail box

April 25th, 2013 1:12pm

I've got this issue (some emails in my outlook.com inbox not showing up in outlook.exe) using outlook 2013 and my wife has the issue with outlook 2010. It is as if the emails are being marked as "already downloaded." It appears to be related to emails we have already "touched" using our iPhones, though not all such messages.

A workaround to force the download, but not prevent future occurrence, is to (on outlook.com) create a folder and move the relevant emails into that folder. When outlook.exe syncs, the entire contents of that folder are downloaded and can then be moved back into your inbox.

I'm more than happy to work with MSFT SDE/STE on this one - former SDE there myself.

The Outlook Product Team found a client side bug that causes email not to show properly in Outlook 2013.  This is specifically for Hotmail, Outlook.com.  They are working on a fix.  Once I know when the fix will ship I will update the forum thread.

Outlook 2013 has again been not showing all my Outlook.com Inbox email (Plenty of screenshot evidence if needed) again after following previous wipe and re-setup advice and being fully up to date with latest Windows Update patches for Win8 and Office as of 8th May 2013.

All email shows consistently in Outlook.com webmail, Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 Mail app, so pretty embarrassing that Outlook 2013 seems to have this EAS sync bug for Outlook.com accounts.

Please confirm if there are any manually installable fixes yet released for us to try, or any update on planned fix timescales? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2738013 doesn't specifically talk about fixing missing emails and I've checked my system and this patch is already installed as of 14th April and I've had this issue re-occur multiple times since then.

I hope that this fix also will address the automatic sync issue when exchange mail boxes are coexisting together with imap mail boxes,

At the moment I will not see new mails received anywhere unless when I select a box for which I want to see new mails, first then Outlook downloads them for the according box, and only for that box, inbox as example.

This works flawless with Microsoft's free LiveMail client, but not with Outlook 2013 64bit.

On the other hand, running pure Exchange works fine.

The Outlook team is working to fix one last issue that they know about.  If you are using Outlook.com with Outlook 2013 and still see missing email after the latest updates installed please let me know.  I will follow up and get some log files for the product team to review.  I just want to double check any remaining issues are either the one they are fixing now or if something new for them to investigate further.

I'm afraid this update does not appear to have fixed the problem.

On my machine the update was applied (automatically via WU) on 15 May 2013. I had a missing email which was received on 19 May 2013 (shown ok on my other devices and in W8 email, but not outlook 2013)

(I've deleted the OST file and hence reloaded the emails and now there ok - but I can't keep doing this!)

Are you still investigating the issue?

I am facing the same issue and i am upset that i paid for this software. Is it such a difficult issue to solve for Microsoft?

I have the same issue, Using Mdaemon 13.04 as the mail server all emails are present in WebMail but I have multiple emails missing in outlook 2013, especially the INBOX, my OST file is over 30Gig so it is not that straight forward to create a new profile and resync

I have a similiar problem with Outlook 2010. The workaround mentioned earlier of "modifying" the msgs in outlook.com and then invoking Send/Receive All Folders in Outlook did work for me on a limited sample that I tested.

However it is impractical to do this over the several years and 1000s of items of email in my outlook.com since the pagination view of items 35 at a time will take many mouse click and lose the unread status of items presently in that state.

There has to be a better way to force Outlook 2010/2013 to re-sync itself from outlook.com without re-creating / re-initializing the profile in Outlook.

John,

Do you have Outlook 2013?  I was just re-reading and want to confirm.  The investigation I am doing right now is with Outlook 2013.  The 2013 version uses a new Exchange ActiveSync protocol.  2010 used the Outlook Connector with MAPI.

I am investigating this issue as it relates to syncing Outlook.com email to Outlook 2013.  Is your email account on Outlook.com?  If so I will contact you to get some log files.

Hi

The mails in Outlook 2013 have been missing since quite a while. Earlier one mail out of 40 used to be missing. But recently a huge chunk of mail says 20 out 30 go missing. I experience this problem mostly when I start my laptop and open outlook 2013 which starts syncing the mails. If the number of mails to be synced are large, it displays the very recent ones and missing the intermediate ones.

This problem was never experienced with Outlook 2010. Even the drafts used to be synced. The send/forwarded arrow signs also used to synced with Outlook.com.

Syncing has failed big time with Exchange ActiveSync protocol.

Please look into it.

APSB,

Does this repro for you consistently?  Do those intermediate emails ever finish syncing during the session you have Outlook open?  If you have a persistent repro where mail does not sync I will contact you to gather additional information.

Sharing the problem.

First missed email message encountered today. Just realized the problem an hour ago. Current setup (Windows 8 + Office 2013) is only about a week old so can't give you much history data. Annoying problem.

An Outlook.com/hotmail email received by HTC 8X Windows Phone 8 (8.0.10211.204) was/is not synced to Outlook 2013 (MS Office 365 Home Premium - 15.0.4505.1006) on Windows 8 PC.

Is the issue persistent or does the email eventually show up in Outlook?  If you see this ongoing I will follow up with you offline.  The Product Team is working on a fix they think addresses the last known issue.  If you have a persistent repro I will get the information from you and they can check and confirm if it is the issue they are working on.

Gabriel,

Yes, this problem occurs quite frequently. These intermediate mails never show up in outlook 2013 where as they are always available on the web platform of outlook.com. It's a very random pattern. The message at the bottom after syncing shows "All folders are up to date. " Where as the inbox in the outlook 2013 is not the same as the inbox in outlook.com.

I have sent you and jkat email with instructions of what to gather when you hit the issue.  If you can please send that information to me I can have the product team investigate the issue.  I also sent mail to three other people on the thread but no response as of yet.  I assume possibly with the latest updates they may no longer be experiencing the issue.

I am new to this forum but I started using Outlook 2013 a week a ago from Outlook 2010 and Outlook.com.  I too am missing random emails (no rhyme or reason).  I have a variety of email accounts that I forward to gmail.  I receive All my emails from that gmail account as POP3 into my inbox.  I also set up Outlook.com as an EAS account.  The first thing I notice when I set up the accounts was that Outlook.com was not syncing with my Outlook 2013 inbox, sent, deleted, or other folders.  As a result, I have Gmail forwarding a copy of my mail to Outlook.com and it is being received 100%.  That is not the case for Outlook 2013, missing many random emails and Outlook 2013 and Outlook.com still are not Syncing.  At one point I did delete Outlook.com EAS account from Outlook 2013 but was still missing hit and miss emails on Outlook 2013.  Did not have this problem with 2010.

... and I thought it was only me !!

I'm in my first week of my free trial period, (W8 Pro, Outlook 2013), intending to buy the full suite at the end of the month.

An unreliable Outlook is a deal breaker.

What is astonishing is that this discussion seems to have been going on for months, with no definitive fix in sight.

Can it really be so hard to fix, or is this just lack of interest from the part of Microsoft?

Gabriel (or whoever is watching this from MS), are you still working on this?

FWIW, I found this thread googling for the same problem, but in my case it's Outlook 2010 and gmail, but I've seen it with Outlook 2007, 2010, and 2013, 32 and 64 bit with gmail and outlook.com.  It appears to be an interaction with an IMAP account (or at least something that acts like an IMAP account, I'm not sure what gmail _really_ is), outlook and in my case an iPhone.

Hi Everyone,

I found this thread while searching on the same problem.  Any new info on this problem?  I am experiencing it across two different systems, both using Outlook 2013.  I have the issue on both my Surface Pro, and my Laptop.  I am running Windows 8 on both devices.  Thanks!

Mark,

This thread focuses on Exchange ActiveSync in Outlook 2013 when connecting to Outlook.com.  Please post your issue as a new forum thread on Answers, http://answers.microsoft.com.  That forum would probably be a better starting point for the IMAP issue.

LinkRS and anyone else that can repro the problem,

If you are able to repro the problem can you please do the following steps and send me the requested information.  I will provide this to the product team to investigate.

The next time you see a missing email please turn on logging, then remove the account from Outlook and then add it back (File, Account Settings, Account Settings).  If you still see the missing email or a new missing email please send the details below on the missing item and the log files.

Subject of the mail
Message IDs (click on the mails that are missing in Outlook on Outlook.com, and send me the URL in the address bar. It contains the message id)

Note:  Its important to have the logging enabled before you add the account back.  We need to see the full sync in the logs to figure out why a message would be missing.

How to enable logging:
1.  Click File, Options, Advanced
2.  Under Other at the bottom click the check box to Enable Troubleshooting Logging
3.  Restart Outlook
4.  Click Send/Receive for the Outlook.com account until it completes
5.  Disable logging and restart Outlook

The log files are in this directory:

Drive:\Users\accountname\AppData\Local\Temp\EASLogFiles

Please send the logging and message details to me and reference this thread.

Gabriel,

I realize that.  I've seen this issue with a 2013 install and both outlook.com and gmail on this same machine, I've downgraded back to outlook 2010 because I couldn't stand the layout and color schemes in 2013, and am still seeing the issue in 2010.

My point is that it doesn't appear to just be an outlook.com/activesynch/outlook 2013 issue, but I believe it's a more general, outlook/imap (or at least accounts that look like IMAP, I don't know if gmail is really IMAP) issue.

June 13th, 2013 8:21pm

The Outlook Product Team found a client side bug that causes email not to show properly in Outlook 2013.  This is specifically for Hotmail, Outlook.com.  They are working on a fix.  Once I know when the fix will ship I will update the forum thread.

On the other hand, running pure Exchange works

For anyone having issues with messages not showing up via IMAP in a timely manner (even when webmail and other email clients receive them close to instantly), try this workaround:

  1.     Open a main instance (window) of Outlook to use for testing.
  2.     Open a second instance of Outlook and point at the inbox of your first IMAP account.
  3.     Open a third instance of Outlook and point at the inbox of your second IMAP account.
  4.     Open a fourth instance of Outlook and point at the inbox of your third IMAP account.
  5.     until all accounts are represented by pointing at their inboxes in a separate window.
  6.     In the main instance, send test emails to all accounts in the profile.
  7.     Note that ALL accounts receive their email INSTANTLY (or close to it).

For some reason, the official production release of Outlook 2013 requires Outlook to be literally pointed at an IMAP inbox in order for it to respect IMAP delivery without delay. The only way around this is to have Outlook literally point at each IMAP inbox for which you want instant delivery of emails. If you are willing to leave all of these Outlook windows open during your session, you will receive your IMAP-account emails very quickly.

I am having similar problems.

Am running Outlook 365 on Windows 8 accessing 3 different gmail accounts using POP and all has been running OK for about 2 months since I started afresh on a new laptop.

On Friday my main account suddenly started not down loading all emails - only down loading about 1 in 5 and I cannot determine what the difference is between the emails that download and those that don't.  My other 2 gmail accounts seem to be OK.

Emails download OK to my iPhone(s)

Most of the above discussion has been involved with IMAP connections - are there any solutions for POP connections ??

Unfortunately (or fortunately?) whenever I delete the OST file and redownload the mailbox, no emails are missing.  Thus, there will not be any logged sync issues to collect unless I leave logging on for weeks until I notice this happen again.

June 20th, 2013 2:25am

If you use an Anti-Virus program that does file level scanning configure it to exclude the Outlook OST and PST files, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh550032(v=office.14).aspx.  Its possible this scanning could interfere with mails being synced or corruption in the files.

Hi,

I use outlook 2013 but I do not know why I make rule mail but sometime It works correctly, sometime it does not work

Example:I make rule mail for Mr.John(john...@gmail.com) to to Mr.John folder.I click on Mr.John folder when I check email,It is ok.New email comes to Mr.John Folder but if I click on inbox or when I open outlook 2013,new mail comes inbox

I removed outlook (Microsoft office 2013)and reinstall again and also reinstall microsoft windows 8

Anyone can help me to solve this problem

Thank so much

July 4th, 2013 9:14am

After playing around with this I believe that it is to do with filter as someone else has suggested. If you use the "this year" filter Home/ filter then you see all the emails including ones that seem to disappear everytime you move in the product to redraw the inbox.

Its not a solution but it does show that the emails are there and if you want them you can see them with the filter set this way.

It is surprising that this hasn't been fixed.

Hope this helps

I've been experiencing MANY, VERY MANY similar situations.

I've OL 2013 (The "real" version, NOT the "web" version.)

Seems there's MANY times I check my (IMAP) account for the same address/account with my 'on-line' (SquirrelMail Interface) and there's MANY new emails showing up there. At the same time too, I check my account via my cell-phone (IMAP again) and it has the new emails displayed.

I close OL, restart and still NO "new" emails show up.

I select 'send/receive' (all folders) and again, the new emails that show up on my phone -and- via my "web-squirrelmail interface indeed shows the new arrivals. But NOT OL 2013.

OL2013 seems to have MANY issues - and NO, I'm NOT going to use the "Web" site/version. I have a particular NEED to continue to use a "real" email 'client.'

What to do??? I've not found what's causing this?

OL2013/Win7(Pro/64)

Has another else found any suggestions on this?

July 9th, 2013 7:53pm

I have a new Surface Pro running Win8 with the Office Suite and I have tried to use Outlook 2013.  I am currently running Outlook 2010 on my desktop and have been using Outlook through all of its many iterations.   However this machine came loaded with Mail also.  I guess this is a version of the old Live Mail.  I can receive mail on Mail but cannot receive on Outlook  2013.  I can send on Outlook 2013 however.  I need to make the Outlook 2013 my default mail.  I have searched the web for answers to this and hope someone here will have an answer.  I have also added my gmail account to the accounts but nothing comes from it either.  But Outlook 2010 on my desktop is getting probably all that mail.  Can not two machines get the same mail as long as gmail keeps the original?   The Surface Pro is enough of a challenge by itself.  Mail is not equipped for attachments which in my business is very important.

Thanks

Hi there,

I'm on Windows 8 Pro 32bit & Office 365 with Outlook 2013.

I just noticed a missing email but I'm not sure if I had the same problem in the past.

I didn't have the same issue on my other machine running Windows 8 Pro 64bit running Office 365 - Outlook 2013 64-bit but I don't use that Outlook as often.

It'll be good if the problem can be solved without having to delete & resync as I have tons of email as well.

Hi there,

I also have the same issue, however I am on an Exchange 2007 server, my workstation is Window 7 and I'm running MS Office 365. This past Tuesday I watched as I lost email from March 1, 2013 through July 27, 2013. I was frantically searching for the cause of it while it was happening, I hadn't touch the mouse or keyboard in over an hour (I have multiple machines I use). I checked the auto archive settings but was not the culprit. I searched through "all" the mail folders looking for them as they were disappearing but found nothing. Even checked the account, filter settings and mail folders of the mail programs (2007, 2010 & 2008 Entourage) running on my other machines, but everything was normal.

BTW: I wasn't using any filter settings at all!

How wide spread is this, should we STOP the roll out of Office 2013 and wait to see if Microsoft addresses the problem?

We don't have the staff to sit and trouble shoot this problem for each user, and we don't dare roll this out to upper management.

Hoping to see a fix for this soon, I'm lucky to have nightly backups of the Exchange server I can restore the missing emails but what a pain!

I have exactly the same issue using an outlook.com account with Outlook 2013 connecting with EAS. Email appears in my inbox on outlook.com and windows phone but odd messages are missing in Outlook 2013 when no sync errors are reported.

I thought this might be an Iphone - Outlook 2013 problem but I guess not.  I got a Windows Phone and got an email today that I can see on the Windows phone but not in Outlook 2013.  This really needs fixed.

Should I try to remove Outlook 2013 and re-install it?  If so, can someone tell me the best way to do this.

Thanks

This *exact* same thing is happening to me, and I desperately need help figuring out how to fix this.

I have bought some web-space, and I always use both

-my mobile phone

-Microsoft Outlook 2013 on a desktop machine

To receive e-mail messages via IMAP protocol, with my web-space at my host. And there's also the third option I can use to check my mail, which is my online webmail client on my host's website.

I've always had perfect luck with Microsoft Outlook 2010 and Microsoft Outlook 2013 in sending/receiving mail. But then starting last week, e-mails are not arriving in Microsoft Outlook 2013 on my desktop workstation when I open Microsoft Outlook 2013 and receive mail.

I am still receiving mail via my phone, and when I log on to my online webmail client, I see all e-mails perfectly. So I *am* able to send/receive mail. But for whatever reason, e-mails are just *NOT* landing in Microsoft Outlook 2013 right now. And when/if new e-mails finally *do* land (sometimes), it's after I've had Outlook 2013 on my desktop workstation open for hours and hours, and *BEEN PRESSING* F9 in order to Send/Receive all mail for hours.

Any trouble-shooting tips at all/things I can check/advice...?

I am also experiencing the same issue.  Mails showing up properly on old computer's Outlook 2013, Windows Phone 8, Windows 8 Mail (Modern / Metro), and of course on Outlook.com, but my new compater's Outlook 2013 keeps losing some of the mails (~3% total).  I can't check every single of them, but it appears sporadic with no particular pattern.  I have removed account and ost file and all files in AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook, tried both re-add account or uninstall Office 2013 and reinstall, installed all the Microsoft updates especially KB2810015, but problem remains.  It appears that at least one of my mails was missed all 3 times when I tried to resync, while others appeared here and there.  Also tried to just move my old computer's ost file over, but that caused Outlook 2013 unable to start.  Sorry but my client is in Traditional Chinese so can't provide the exact wording, but will also try to email cts-aruiz at live dot com and gbratton / at / Microsoft / dot / com.

Dear All,

This has been happening to me for once, and I am certain on how to reproduce it. It only happens when I open an email on my mobile device (a windows phone) before I open it in my desktop Outlook application.

If I do not open it on my phone, it will still download to my computer.

I do not want to tinker with OST files or removing / adding accounts, so for me the easiest fix is to simply stop using my online outlook account for the time being.

The luxury of checking work emails on the go is not worth the risk of missing an important email because it did not appear on the work computer.

Regards,

David

At least my case does not seem to be the same as yours.  I only recently started to check my email through my newly-purchased Windows Phone (and before that I hadn't checked email through my old phone for more than a month), yet there are sporadic old emails that are missing. Either case, it is annoying and Microsoft really should have already come up with a solution by now.

this is an absolute disaster for me.

I rely on my Win8/Office13 x64 installation, as my connection to find work.

Since I recently went through a complete rebuild because of a different issue, I'd reinstalled Office2013, and before Outlook was working fine. I had a reliable connection/installation for about 6-8 months. It now isn't. I know I have circa 2000 emails in my inbox - no large emails, and well under the limits.

I can now only sync around 300 emails from a date in 2011. Two years worth of more recent emails are not synced. I have no contacts, or calendar entries. I can't work basically.

The only difference I can think of is that the "working Hotmail" setup was created with a "vanilla" Office 2013 installation and the hotfixes where applied after, over time.

This time with a rebuild and before I added the email accounts, the Office 2013 installation was fully updated with hotfixes and patches.

What's changed?

I have deleted profiles, OST files...the lot ..and started again, but I still only get to a point where I can sync 300 emails.

Can this be sorted out as soon as possible. This is my livelihood that is seriously affected here.

in desperation.......

I switched from Windows Life Mail to Outlook a week ago.

Mow I have the same problem with missing mail. I use Galaxy Note 2, I read all my emails this morning on it. Outlook is missing some of them, not all of them.

I guess we need another client. Microsoft did not solve the problem since November 2012?? Frustrating!

I just applied a bunch of updates released this week and Outlook 2013 seems to be working. I can hardly believe it because for so long it's been briefly seeing emails then losing them. I had to resort to configuring Thunderbird to connect to my exchange account. Today it seems fine despite picking up emails via my phone as well. Let's hope this is it!

I have noticed the same issue exists today. My Outlook.com account showed several emails days old and even some that I had already moved to other folders in my in box, still unread.

I then forwarded them to my old email account (which is forwarded back to my Outlook.com account) and lo and behold they suddenly showed up from my old email address....

I think there are some serious synch problems between Outlook 2013 and any EAS mail server. I run an old exchange server in house and I get the same issue on my test accounts from time to time.

As m y Outlook 2013 is permanently on line, I also noticed that occasionally Outlook reports it cannot get a response from Outlook.com, that appears to be when the emails go astray.

I am seriously looking at going back to Outlook 2010 to see if that is more stable.....

Hi Gabriel,

I'm another impacted user, and it is causing me some severe inconvenience. As seems to be common, once I have recreated the ost file the problem goes away for some time (a week or two seems typical) then recurs.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can you implement a workaround to resync the inbox (i.e., bring the ost file state into line with whatever is on Outlook.com) without having to go through the manual work of resetting the profile with a clean ost file? This must be relatively straightforward to do. I realise it does not address the base problem, but since that appears to have remained unsolved since last year, affecting a significant number of users, it seems reasonable.

I paid to upgrade to 365 and get the latest of everything, thinking life would be better, and now I'm suffering business impact that did not exist in Outlook 2010. Not a good situation.

Kind regards,

Mike

Same problem. Some E-mails visible in outlook.com do not download to Outlook 2013.<o:p></o:p>

The missing downloads are irrespective of whether the mail has been read (on outlook.com) or not. I have received two E-mails from exactly the same sender with minutes in between, where one downloaded to Outlook 2013 and the other did not. I had not read or marked any of them. I do not use filters.<o:p></o:p>

To add to the mystery, the missing mails are all sent from one single domain. My organization changed mail provider to office365 a few days ago, and since then I have been missing about a third of the mails sent from that domain to my personal account.<o:p></o:p>

I have unresolved problems with E-mail which I have read on my Windows Mobile 8 phone not downloading either, but the two problems are not related.

Also occurs in Outlook for Mac 2011, Version 14.3.6 running on OSX 10.8.4

Observed:

A single unread email that is visible via outlook.com (and also via IMAP using Mail.app on iOS7), is not visible (nor searchable) using Outlook for Mac 2011.

Hi,

I have the same problem i have gmail and set it up on my phone, so every time mail comes i can see it on my phone and when i got to outlook.com which came with win 8 i can see this email as read, but it must be my lucky day to find this same email in my outlook 2013, i don't know it does not do it systematically so i don't understand on what basis it segregating which emails to receive and which not? but it happens that after 2-3 days i can see those emails in my outlook 2013, i have scheduled send/receive every 5 min so it's not definitely the issue...

I'm afraid to say that even after May patch and complete re-setup I have now had confirmation of Outlook 2013 on Windows 8 desktop not showing me emails in my Inbox folder that are present and visible via Win8 Mail app, Windows Phone and Outlook.com webmail interfaces.

I've updated my original MS Answers thread (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-outlook/oulook-2013-missing-emails-from-ms-live-oulookcom/be5e92b6-37a4-4b53-8078-f2b74026111c) but wanted to let others on here know as obviously this error is only spottable if you view your mail via multiple routes...otherwise you can't likely 'see' you're missing email :-O

Seeing same issue AND missing email in Outlook.com that never gets to 2013, 2 different issues that maybe related.

How do I know missing email. Have a shadow account for email so every email goes 2 email accounts, Outlook.com being the primary and secondary in case of issues. In the secondary email box are a 2 emails that where not received by Outlook.com on the same day, they are not in junk or deleted. What alerted us to this was someone replied ALL to one we didn't get initially but we got the reply all which alerted us to the original missing email.

Not sure where to go with this as have the emails that should have been received to demonstrate when they where sent.

I can confirm that this issue is true. I have the same issue with missing mail in my outlook 2013 with my hotmail e-mailadress.

I did a test with 2 times 300 mails automatic send. 100 with CC, BCC and to.

When my phone is off i didn't recieve all e-mail messages. after i open my phone i recieve on my phone more e-mails. its about 1% that didn't recieve in outlook2013. When i read first the messages on my phone, then is about 30% not going to my outlook 2013 mailbox.
I have tried to find some clues with wireshark but can't find strange things.
Also more mails in the BCC, CC, to. has no visible effect in the possibility that the error is triggering.
The only way to increase the error is reading from a other device of from outlook.

The account is connected with Exchange ActiveSync on the pc and phone (android 4.1.2)

The system configuration is:

Windows 7 Professional 6.1.7601 SP 1 build 7601 X86-based PC
Office versie(outlook): 15.0.4535.1004
MSO: 15.0.4535.1002 (32 bits)
Virusscanner = AVG2013 antivirus Free Version: 2013.03408

I will send the error log to microsoft but maybe there is more information that is useful for Microsoft. I have check the data that is send with wireshark but i can not extract the right data that causes this problem.

I'm afraid to say that even after May patch and complete re-setup I have now had confirmation of Outlook 2013 on Windows 8 desktop not showing me emails in my Inbox folder that are present and visible via Win8 Mail app, Windows Phone and Outlook.com webmail interfaces.

I've updated my original MS Answers thread .... but wanted to let others on here know as obviously this error is only spottable if you view your mail via multiple routes...otherwise you can't likely 'see' you're missing email :-O

PMSL at Microsoft. I am paying alot of money every month to use this crap.

HOW THE HELL HAS IT BEEN A YEAR AND WE STILL CANNOT USE OUTLOOK 2013 FOR WHICH WE CONTINUE TO PAY EVERY MONTH??

LOL

October 1st, 2013 12:52am

We have the same issue with Outlook 2013 for a customer. They are using IMAP but new email messages just wont come through.

We have removed the account and corresponding OST files numerous times but we have the same issue. We can see new mail via the iphone or webmail interface of the host (roundcube).

We are running the latest updates to the Outlook 2013 desktop client.

This thread was started in Nov 2012, it's now October 2013 and still no fix? We've just paid 120 for this software and it's unusable having a direct effect on business productivity.

Can someone from Microsoft please respond?

Hard to believe that MS lets this crap go on for so long

I have the same issue as well with both 2010 and 2013 outlook connected to my exchange server.

I cant go around deleting and recreating OST files for 3-400 users. Everyday at least 1 user reports this. I have  quite a few who finally got sick of the only answer I could give  " MicroSHAFT doesnt care " and wont fix it.

It is quite obvious that nobody that really works for MS ever looks at these forums

October 7th, 2013 7:10pm

11 months after you reported this issue to the forums I can confirm that it is still happening!  I use Outlook 2013 for my work emails (like most people) and I'm starting to look unprofessional by not replying to emails (that I never receive).  Log into Outlook.com and there they are!  I won't be re-subscribing to MS at the end of my subscription if this is not fixed because an incomplete email service is no email service at all.

I am having this issue.  On two computers (running clean installs of outlook 2013).  But it also has missing emails on my phone outlook.

Cost me considerable frustration on a conference call today when they were sending out updates.  I logged on and they are on the web outlook but not on the two computers or phone.

So very frustrated with the whole 365 thing.

I'm also having the same problem. Outlook 2013 on Windows 8 64bit not syncing some messages.

Hello Gabriel,

I am also still experiencing problems with missing emails in Outlook 2013 connecting to Outlook.com despite having all available updates.

I have sent you my sync debug log to the address gbrat...@micr....com and hope the product teams can finally figure this one out, because right now the email service provided by your key product is unsuitable for any business use.

Best,

Ondrej.

I thought this might be a windows 7 - windows 8 issue but I guess not.  Today I received about 60 emails.  All but 6 were on my windows phone and surface pro.  The 6 did not show up in Outlook 2013 on the Surface Pro.  I really wish MS could just put together something that you could resysnc one folder and not have to delete all of the ost file and re-install all of Outlook 2013 to get in-boxes to match.

It has been a long time on the thread since anyone from MS has said anything...I wonder if any of them are really working this.

October 15th, 2013 10:14pm

I'm running:

  • Windows 8.1, Office 2013 on a laptop
  • Windows 8.1 preview, Office 2013 on a surface
  • Windows Phone 7.8 on a Lumia 800

In the past (months ago this year) I noticed I was missing e-mails. A week or so ago I completely reinstalled my laptop to end up with Windows 8.1 and Office 2013.

On monday I contacted someone with a question. Half-way the week I reminded the person of the answer that he still owed me. Today I found out that the person already had replied to me on monday. I could see the answer in OUTLOOK.COM, but NOT on any of the three devices mentioned above.

What gives?

Apparently I'm not the only one with this issue and it appears it has not been solved almost one year after the first post. I was thinking on going to use Office365, thinking it was more reliable. However, it appears to have the same issue.

With all this info I think ActiveSync is broken somehow and needs to be fixed.

I do wonder when a fix will be presented. Anyone from MSFT care to answer this?

regards,

Jorge

Problem has re-emerged. Previous case (June 2013 - see jkat posts earlier in this thread) involved debugging with MS support engineer and resulted in reinstalling Office 365. Updated PC to Windows 8.1. last friday but have done no configuration changes to Office 365.

Windows 8.1. "Mail" app and Windows 8 phone receive all emails, Outlook 2013 does not.

Amazing how difficult an issue this is to solve for good.

October 26th, 2013 11:07am

I just installed 2 computers with 365 and I am having the same issue on both. Using godaddy for e-mail and their tech support confirmed everything is ok on their end as far as the ports go on IMAP and POP.

Seems like this issue should have been resolved a long time ago. Really MS Support?

I use Outlook and the Outlook Web app to access the same email account.  I hate this, but paying an extra fee every month for the Office 365 outlook web app is the only way outlook will let me share calendars among the people in my office.

Last Friday, a client sent me a very important, time-sensitive email.  This email did not show up using either outlook or the outlook web app.  I checked again today to see if I had gotten any reply yet, and I just happened to stumble on a sequence of acts that causes the email to display.

All methods of looking for this email fail to find it on Outlook.  On the outlook web app, I open some folder other than "Inbox", search for the client's name, then switch it to "Include messages from entire mailbox" and the hidden email shows up.  The message says that it is in the "Inbox" folder; but looking in the Inbox folder does not show this email.

The following methods fail to find this important email:

1. Every method that I can think of to look for it on Outlook.

2.     On outlook web app (associated with Office 365):

A. Opening the Inbox and scrolling down to the date the email was sent

B. Searching for the email while the Inbox folder is open (even when the box to check entire mailbox is checked.

This is not acceptable; my business depends on dependable communication, and Outlook is not dependable.  I've had other instances where Outlook has taken an hour or more to send a simple, text only email.  This is also not acceptable.  My business sometimes depends on the ability to quickly send emails.

Microsoft:  Please fix this crap.  Don't add one more bell or whistle to any program until you make the programs you've already sold Work Dependably.  Think of it as if you are producing programs for Air Traffic control, where any failure will cause airplanes to crash and people to die.  The failures in your programs could cause my business to crash and leave me legally liable for damages caused by those failures.

FYI: Just fixed a similar problem; not sure whether this long running thread has gone; appears to be not satisfactorily fixed (just resolved by retries, etc).

Was NOT getting older emails; turns out that in ver.2013 connections to Outlook.com emails is via "Exchange ActiveSync", and one property is "Offline Settings", which limits how far back in time emails are retrieved from the cloud. A fresh setup of Outlook 2013 on a clean machine install was not getting any further than month back. Updating this setting to "All" (my original default was 1-month) resulted (after a brief sync) all emails arriving, give or take a count of 10 between different machines (one running Outlook 2010).

Here's the link describing the issue in an Exchange environment:

"Only a subset of your Exchange mailbox items are synchronized in Outlook 2013"

There have been several fixes already for both Outlook and Outlook.com so make sure you have all updates installed for Office 2013.  We will also have another fix in service pack 1.  The Product Team is investigating other fixes as well.  Numerous people have sent me log files and those are helping the Product Team to determine additional fixes.  There is unfortunately not one single issue so we can just fix the issues as we find them.  If you continue to see issues, please follow the steps in this document and send me the log files, https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=6117fc33d161d286&id=6117FC33D161D286%21137

Tom,

I edited the link to remove the period.  I've gotten logging from numerous people so far and the product team is investigating.  There is also a fix that could address some scenarios in the November Public Update so make sure you have the latest from Windows Updates.

November 14th, 2013 5:23pm

Hello,

After installing the November update KB2837618 for Outlook 2013 64-Bit Edition messages in my IMAP Inbox on two devices are no longer displayed. I tried uninstalling the update similar to the September update fix where the Folder Pane disappeared but the issues persisted on both devices.

I have also tried removing and re-adding the account before and after installing or uninstalling the update; every possible scenario I could think of and have resorted to Thunderbird so I can continue working...

All other subscribed IMAP folders are displaying and updating correctly on both devices.

I thought it may have been an issue with my email provider but after seeing the other folders continue to update it has to be an Outlook issue.

Affected Devices:

Laptop - Win 8 Pro - Office 2013 Pro

Desktop - Win 8 - Office 2013 Pro

Thx, Rishard.

Brian, you're a legend! I've been working on this for hours.  I set Outlook to keep all messages (no age limit), and I even deleted and re-added my mail accounts, but all I got was a completely empty inbox.

Now all my emails are back - let's hope it lasts! Thanks.

This is not the answer. I did this and yes, it worked, but not very long afterwards I found that some emails are going missing again. It is really not satisfactory to have to keep recreating your profile in order for this thing (Outlook 2013) to work reliably. Even setting locally kept emails to the last 3 months it still takes some time to sync (I have a Virginmedia 60mb connection).

This isn't good enough. MS should either fix this, explain why they can't or explain why they won't.

Is this an attempt by MS to get users to migrate to Outlook.com or Office365 or whatever it is. I wish they could be more upfront about it. I don't particularly want to move to outlook.com. Why should I? I have what appears to be a perfectly functional more or less gmail compliant email account (albeit that it doesn't work exactly as a gmail account does). Why should I have to change or get a new email address (I realise that one can fetch mail from other accounts from any account but why should I accept being forced to do this). It was working fine with 2003/2007 and 2010 and now with 2013 it doesn't work. Why?

Outlook, for me is at the centre of Office (even if MS now thinks it isn't) and if Outlook doesn't work then it's hard to see what keeps me with MS (open office beckons, it has a db and it's spreadsheets have pivot tables - last time I looked at it was at least 5 years back it must have moved on too, but is still free I think). Maybe it develops in ways that users want rather than ways that corporates want..... (hey I know there are links to ORACLE there so I'm not that starry eyed about it....).

Missing content in Outlook incoming e-mail messages.

Windows exchange account used with Office 2003 without problems.

We are using:

Lenovo PC with Windows8.1 and office 2013
MacBook Pro OS10.9 running VirtualBox for Winows7Ultimate and office 2013
i.phone 4S
i.phone 5

We found that all messages can be read on both the PC and the VirtualBox. However after reading a message on any of the i.phones the contents disappear on the PC and VirtualBox. The message body remains so we are able to see date time and from whom. The contents are still visible on the i.phones and should be available in the Exchange Server.
I have been looking at the complete string of questions and suggestions and lost track. This is going on since 2012 now.

Please let me know how to solve this???????

To me this is an EAS issue.

Outlook.com account setup on Outlook 2013 using EAS has some emails missing in Outlook 2013. Outlook.com account setup on Outlook 2013 using IMAP has all emails showing in Outlook 2013.

Outlook.com account setup on android phone using Outlook.com app using Active Sync has some emails (same ones!) missing on phone.  Outlook.com account setup on android phone using Outlook.com app using IMAP has all emails showing on phone.

Not a Outlook 2013 issue, looks like an issue with how Outlook.com sync with various applications and devices.

Looks like I'll be sticking with gMail!

Same issue.  Happened twice this week.  Using Outlook 2013 and outlook.com.  Saw email on iphone.  Opened up Outlook and the email is not there.  The email is there when I go to Outlook.com.  To temporarily fix, I go to  Account Settings / Change...   Next I move the slider to 1 month exit out of options and let it re-sync.  Then I move the the slider back to all and let it resync.  It's only temporary fix.

I have not had email issues in YEARS.  What the hell Microsoft???  I think most frustrating is the fact that this issue has been reported for a YEAR!  Get it together!

November 22nd, 2013 10:43pm

Issue still happens

  • Windows 8.1 Professional
  • Office 2013 Professional Plus
  • Latest Microsoft updates installed.

Only temporary workaround is to delete the local .ost file en re-download everything from outlook.com
But I don't know if all my sent items got uploaded to outlook.com.

Please fix this issue!

Not sure this will work for everyone, but as a test I left the slider on one-month back. No missing emails for several days (which is a record for me). Fingers crossed. I realize this is no help to someone who needs all mail downloaded. Perhaps this is why my iPhone which only syncs mail back two weeks never has issues. On another note, this issue only seems to happen on my default outlook.com account with its OST file also set as the default. A second account does not appear to have issues (although the second account is less active).

I spoke too soon.  Just had two emails missing this morning  (of course it is always the most important emails that go missing).  Saw the emails on my iPad.  They were not on Outlook.  Very, very frustrating.

I'm having the same problem too.
December 1st, 2013 6:52pm

I am curious as to how many people having this issue are using Outlook on Wi-Fi.

I have a new (completely made-up) theory about this problem.  For me, the computer that is having issues was on a poor wi-fi connection.  I did not know it was poor until I started having installation problems with the adobe cloud software.  Looking at my logs showed many wi-fi errors (although everything seemed perfectly fine to me with the connection, including playing online games).  I have since improved my connection and will check back in on this thread if things improve.

My theory is as follows-- due to a poor wi-fi connection messages are marked as received by Outlook at the beginning of the download processes.  Before the download processes completes wi-fi errors interrupt and stop the download.  Because the message is already marked as downloaded by Outlook, it never gets fully downloaded and the download never restarts.

(I realize I'm just making this theory up but I'm desperate to have Outlook work -- I really like the program, but my patience is growing thin).

Whatever the problem, this is clearly something wrong in Outlook's implementation of the EAS protocol (or the problem could be on Outlook.com, who knows).  The protocol should be robust enough to work no matter what is thrown at it.

Yes I think you're right,

I have had this issue for many months now with occasional emails going missing which I had previously read on my phone.

Then 2 days ago I started to download emails via outlook while I was at the airport on a slow connection and had to shutdown my laptop before sync had completed. I lost about 4 days worth of emails, all since my last sync, which I can see in outlook.com or my phone but not in outlook. I agree with what you say "The protocol should be robust enough to work no matter what is thrown at it."

Still the same here as well. About 1 out of 40 emails goes missing on the desktop Outlook 2013 and the odds seem to get worse for emails previously read on a Windows 8 phone. The emails remain present in outlook.com. That this has gone on so long borders on the incredible.

vcangel & Niclam,

Are you both on WiFi when the problems occur with desktop Outlook?  At least for me, a poor WiFi connection was the problem (as I stated in my prior note-- I had no idea I even had a poor Wifi connection without checking the logs).

Regardless, I agree that EAS on outlook should not lose emails even with a horrible WiFi connection.

December 9th, 2013 8:28pm

For me, this problem seems to be most reproducible if I read a new email on my Windows Phone 8 *before* Outlook 2013 has the opportunity to synchronise with m.hotmail.com.

Any emails I read are marked as read on outlook.com but Outlook 2013 doesn't synchronise them over - it just pulls the unread messages over.

Removing the account and adding it back solves the problem but that isn't really the point ...

Regards

Philip

The same issue is here just this morning. Reading mail on mobile and it never can be found in Outlook 2013, only shows up in outlook.com or Win8 builtin mail.

Is it regular feature or deal breaker bug but still without fix since more than a year.

Is Outlook desktop using WiFi when the issues occur?  This ended up being the problem with my set up.  I was on a poor WiFi connection, but did not know it.  (Again, Outlook should work just fine even with poor WiFi)

For those still experiencing issues I wanted to provide an update.  Numerous people have sent me log files and the other specifics I posted here, https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=6117fc33d161d286&id=6117FC33D161D286%21137.  After investigating all those reports the product team found them to be related to one issue on Outlook.com.  The Outlook.com team is currently testing a fix and will begin deploying it on 12/16/13 and expected to be deployed site wide by mid January.  For the time being it is not necessary to send any other logs.  Once we get this fix deployed and anyone is still seeing issues I will post again for log files.

This problem is far from over...because it also occurs on other exchange servers.

Let me explain:

First of all, I am using the exchange online service (office365) and connect al my mailclients to that/my exchange account.

Since last friday I own a brandnew surface pro 2. On this machine I installed Office 2013, while also using the mail app (simultaniously).

This morning I recieved three emails and started to read one of them in the mail app (the other two were left unread). Then I opened Outlook 2013...and NONE of the three emails showed up! Then I rebuild my OST file (from exchange server) and the three emails are now showing up!

I have been searching the internet for a solution and stumbled upon this discussion. Seems there are many others that have the same problem!

@Microsoft: you say the problem is in Outlook.com...but why am I expericencing the same problem on my office365 exchange account????

Please respond and reinvestigate! I cannot afford losing any more emails...and will not be rebuilding my OST file every single day!

January 1st, 2014 3:11pm

If Microsoft really does have a solution to this more-than-a-year-old--problem (forgive my skepticism), will Outlook and Outlook.com automatically re-sync and fix this problem or will users (that know about the problem) have to erase their .OST file(s) and manually re-sync?

If a manual re-sync is required, will Microsoft publish detailed instructions on how to do this?

I imagine that there are many users who do not know that they do not have all their e-mails in Outlook, since they trusted Microsoft to make Outlook.com and Outlook work together.  If a manual re-sync is required, what will Microsoft do to publicize that users need to check their e-mail counts and re-sync if necessary?

Hi Chuck,

This is what I did (read it on an official Microsoft supportpage):

Re-create an offline Outlook Data File (.ost)

Some account types, such as Microsoft Exchange Server, use an offline Outlook Data File (.ost)(offline Outlook Data File (.ost): The file on your hard disk that contains a copy of mail messages and Outlook items. The file is synchronized with the information saved on a mail or Exchange server. The offline Outlook Data File has an .ost extension.). This type of data file is a copy of information saved on your mail server. If you encounter problems with an offline Outlook Data File (.ost), the file can be re-created by downloading a copy of your items again. We don't recommend repairing an offline Outlook Data File, so if your offline data file isn't usable, you should re-create it by doing the following:

  1. Exit Outlook.
  2. In Control Panel, click or double-click Mail.

Mail appears in different Control Panel locations depending on the version of the Windows operating system, the Control Panel view selected, and whether a 32- or 64-bit operating system or version of Outlook 2013 is installed.

The easiest way to locate Mail is to open Control Panel in Windows and then, in the Search box at the top of the window, type Mail.

Note    The Mail icon appears after Outlook starts for the first time.

January 2nd, 2014 11:31am

I am seeing the exact problems. It appears random. There is no pattern to the mails that don't get to Outlook 2013. Running 8.1 64-bit. Using the EAS protocol.

Thank you.

Is there any update or status on a fix to Outlook.com to address this issue?
January 4th, 2014 3:46am

I spent a rather frustrating couple of days debugging Outlook 2013 on a new Win7 desktop for my wife's work.  Installed my usual selection of handy utilities, then Office 2013.

Immediately we noted that she was not getting incoming emails.  The account was set correctly, identical to the setup on another PC.  I also added her email account to my personal laptop (also Outlook 2013) and it worked fine.  So I installed Thunderbird on her new PC, and it had no problems receiving emails.

Long story short, it appears AVG (2014 Free version) was the issue, or rather, some interaction between AVG and Outlook 2013.  I disabled the AVG email checking during part of the troubleshooting, but somehow it still caused a blocking of the incoming mails.    I have used this combination with Outlook 2003 and 2010 with no issues.

I just uninstalled the entire AVG product, and now emails are coming in.

So I guess it's time to pony up for a paid product for protection.  Certainly cheaper than a couple of days of messing around and getting nowhere.  Hope this may save others some time.

Cheers

It is now a month later and my issues appear to have completely resolved after improving my WiFi.  This may be one of several issues that people are experiencing, but if this issue happens when you are connected to WiFi see if you can improve it.  I switched out my WiFi adapter and it fixed the problem.  (My logs of showed numerous errors I was not aware of -- I was even gaming on poor wifi without issue).  Again-- Outlook should be able to handle poor wifi -- but this fixed it for me.

One other note:  sometimes it takes 10-15 minutes for Outlook to update the email.  Remaining patient seemed to work.

One other note:  sometimes it takes 10-15 minutes for Outlook to update the email.  Remaining patient seemed to work.

Wow, what a thread.  A brand new outlook.com user reporting.  My company switched to Office 365 hosted email (which appears to work well in Outlook 365).  So I decided to funnel all my personal email accounts into a new outlook.com account.  Initially the setup in Outlook 365 was easy, done via EAS.  However today I notice, as many above have testified, that messages appearing in outlook.com were NOT reflected in Outlook 365 on my Windows 8.1 machine.

Office 365 is fully up to date using 15.0.4551.1011 and like everyone above deleting the ost does a resync and all email appears, at least for a while.

I share you frustration at both the age of this issue and the fact that Microsoft efforts seem lukewarm at best considering this is their new cloud service which, to my eye, a lot of their future depends on.

Ant,

The Outlook.com team tells me that they have began rolling out the fix and expect to have it fully deployed by end of January or beginning of February.

Tom,

This thread is specific to Outlook.com.  The issue being fixed will only address using Exchange ActiveSync to Outlook.com.  I am not aware of any issues similar connecting to Office 365 hosted Exchange.  Please log into the Office 365 Online Portal and submit a support request to have this issue investigated.

January 16th, 2014 8:45pm

May I ask, how it will be rolled out? I need it.

Thanks.

I would expect that it will be rolled out using Microsoft's standard procedures:  Promises........promises.........promises...........oops!  (Queue replays of all the old Bill Gates seduction jokes.)

I am still having the issue but found out how to replicate the problem today, but others have already mentioned it here.

I read my email on my Windows 8 Phone, and any message that I read, is not showing up later when I open Outlook 2013 on my desktop computer.  I am using my hotmail to test this.

When can I expect a fix. I've had this issue on 3 PC's when I installed Outlook 2013 for over 6 months

Fortunately all messages display on my Samsung S4- randomly missing in Outlook 2013 with EAS.

FIX THIS SOON- PLEASE!!!

The Outlook.com Product Team is currently deploying the fix to their servers.  They tell me it might take until the first week of February complete roll out to all of the servers.  Once the fix is deployed it will be necessary to remove and re-add the account back in Outlook to force a new updated complete sync.  I will update the forum thread when I confirm the fix is fully deployed.

I have been studying this forum over the last few days as both my wife and I have problems with email to those described, ie coming into Outlook.com but not arriving in Outlook 2013 (we have Office 365 EAS). It can be extremely frustrating as we use Outlook 2013 as our central filing (being far superior to Outlook.com) and in the case of my wife's use missing email is a considerable problem as it can affect her business.

So I look forward to being advised of the fix, but please Gabriel can we have a detailed explanation of how to get back to everything working properly. I have read that it is not possible to remove the Outlook.com account once set up.

Thanks

Hi - any update on the fix?

I am also experiencing this mismatch between mail in Outlook 2013 and mail viewed any other way for my custom domain hosted on outlook.com.

Mail viewed from the following clients is in sync:

  • browser view of outlook.com
  • Windows 8 Mail on Lenovo tablet
  • Windows Phone 8 Mail on Lumia 920

Outlook 2013 (O365 Home Premium) on Win7 Ent 64-bit is missing mails in my Inbox.

Deleting and re-creating the OST file and profile seems to be the only fix, but it takes a long time to do this. It is a regular waste of time, not to mention the problems with missing important emails.

This bug is very active in the following threads too:

I hope that Gabriel's feedback that a server-side fix will be implemented by the end of the first week of Feb is accurate.

February 5th, 2014 8:16am

Hi, I am experiencing the sma issue. I have my personal email account at Outlook.com. My email clients are OL2013, BlackBerry Z10 and iPad iOS7. All of them configured to use EAS. This is what I have discovered. Every time my wife sends me a new email from her desktop client ( OL2010 connected to Exchange 2010), it does arrive to Outlook.com but not synced to neither my clients. If she sends me a new email from her iPhone or IPad (connected to the same Exhange server) then I have her email in all my clients. The difference is her signature she had configured in her OL2010: it has a picture. So, my guess is that any new email sent only from her OL2010 it will not sync to my email clients. I hope this will be fixed soon as Grabiel said. Regards,

FYI, you can force a re-sync without deleting the email account by:

1. Going to FILE / ACCOUNT SETTINGS / CHANGE...

2. Move MAIL TO KEEP OFFLINE slider from ALL to ONE MONTH.  Click NEXT and FINISH.

3. Repeat and move the slider back to ALL.

Your mail will then completely re-sync.

February 5th, 2014 6:07pm

I have a new Lenovo laptop running Win 8.1 and Outlook 2013 and set up a hotmail account which uses EAS.

The account set up runs correctly and send/receive show no errors.

Win 8.1 Mail, Outlook/Hotmail web client and Outlook 2010 running on an XP machine all behave as expected.

OL2013 is a complete mess: It downloads some emails to my inbox then disconnects.  Sent folder gives up loading emails passed a certain date.

I have tried re-creating accounts, deleting OST files, the registry hack mentioned in various places all to no avail.

What with all the other Win 8.1 bugs and quirks I am dealing with it has been and continues to be a significant disappointment.

I tried again this morning and O2013 appears to running.  I am not getting the Disconnected and other suspicious looking status notifications.  It just says Connected.

I hope this means MS have rolled out a fix to their servers as suggested above.

This problem is really frustrating and for me seems to be affecting both outlook.com and my business exchange account.

Some e-mails read with my phone just don't appear in Outlook 2013 (Nexus 7). Nopw starting to cause real issues as I've forgotten to pick on a few messages from clients when I'm  back at my desktop that I'd quickly reviewed on phone.

The Outlook.com Team has updated me that the fix for the missing email is almost deployed site wide.  Now that the fix is deployed it is necessary to force a full sync by removing the account from Outlook and then adding it back.  After adding the account back the issue should be addressed.
February 18th, 2014 5:16pm

You say that it is almost deployed site wide and in your next sentence you say that the fix is deployed. Can you tell us when it is live site wide, then we will be sure that reinstalling the account  will solve it. Can you confirm that it is the problem address in Outlook 2013 that should be removed and reinstalled.

Thanks

Alan

Hi Gabriel,

I appreciate that you are staying with this post.

  • I have a custom domain hosted on http://domains.live.com
  • Outlook.com is my pseudo-exchange server
  • Outlook 2013 is synced via Exchange ActiveSync on a Win 8.1 platform

I noticed that emails were starting to drop at the end of January 2014.  However, the problem existed prior to this as the message count between both Outlook.com and Outlook 2013 was never the same.  The main difference in January was that very current emails started not appearing in Outlook 2013 which caught my attention.  I would read 5-10 emails on my Android device in the morning and later 1-2 emails would be missing in Outlook 2013.

Initially, I moved all of my 30,000+ emails off to a local PST in Outlook 2013 (which took quite awhile) and I found that some 400 emails remained in Outlook.com.  I setup a new profile and the 400 emails synced.  I then restored about 4,000 emails (which can now only be done via IMAP! But I will save that rant for another day).

I have since deleted my profile and recreated it 4 times, most recently last night.  The problem still remains.  In fact when I recreated my profile last night 3 items didn't sync from the get go.  This morning there are now 4 items missing in Outlook 2013.

Only Outlook 2013 via EAS seems to be a problem.  All of my other methods and devices for accessing Outlook.com are working correctly...

  • Outlook 2013 via IMAP - No problems all email is synced
  • Win 8.1 Mail app via EAS - No problems all email is synced
  • Android 4.3 via EAS - No problems all email is synced
  • iOS 7.0.6 Mail app via EAS - No problems all email is synced

Is Outlook.com really the problem, as your dev team stated???  Although my experience is only anecdotal, it would seem the new implementation of EAS in Outlook 2013 is at fault.  Just my 2 cents.

Again, thank you for your efforts.  Please push the dev team to fix this issue.  In spite of the many ways I can access my email, contacts and scheduling, Outlook 2013 is by far a superior interface for doing it.

Regards,

Mark

Got into your email Account settings and make sure that the "Mail to keep offline" is set to "All".  The standard is for "12 months".  Slide to "All" and restart Outlook.  I was able to get all of a user's by doing the exact thing and all of the messages that were missing came back.

Hope this helps.

I have a similar issue. I have a custom domain hosted with domains.live.com.

However, the issue only happens to emails from a particular client running on Office 365 Enterprise.  After viewing the source, I found the emails have a TNEF file (winmail.dat) attached to it which has the html version of the email, plus signature images.  I also was able to replicate the issue by re-sending it to myself via telnet.  If I removed the winmail.dat attachment, the email would be received perfectly.  Also, the person who sent the email is running Outlook 2013.

Thankfully, I was able to fix this issue by configuring the senders Office 365 options to not allow winmail.dat / TNEF to be sent to to my domain name.  (http://help.outlook.com/140/gg263346.aspx) This doesn't really help anyone else as I'm the sys admin for the senders company, but it might help with isolating other peoples issues.

Like many others, Ive been hit with the missing email syndrome ----

Per specifics, a week ago, I setup Outlook 2013 on a new desktop with the Windows 8.1 operating system. As with prior desktops, the account was set up with Microsoft Exchange status ---- After the email update process was completed, I noticed that most of my email messages from the last year in the DELETED FOLDER have vanished ---- Im left only with email messages for the past 10 weeks in the DELETED Folder.

My archiving process is set up to achieve only deleted emails after 2 years, and none of the lost emails appeared there ---- I tested if the lost emails could be found in using the MICROSOFT OUTLOOK WEBAPP ---- Unfortunately, the vanishing act occurred there also -----

Its stunning to see that this thread started back on November 1, 2012. And, over 16 months later, there still does not appear to be a fix ---- Is there now a sure fire fix date?

Thank you ---- Don

Hi Gabriel,

I experienced the same issue (emails from my Outlook.com account not showing up in Outlook 2013 set up as an EAS account) multiple times and then coordinated my attempt at solving the issue with a friend of mine who is highly technical and understands EAS protocols extremely well. I started from scratch, enabled logging, and turned it on. I had noticed previously, there was some correlation with connection interruptions as suggested by some users. So I purposely turned off my WiFi multiple times just to see what happens. From the logs, we observed a major issue with Microsoft's implementation of EAS in Outlook 2013 (basically Microsoft is not following its own EAS protocols). We also think there is a separate bug that is discussed at the end of this post. As to the more fundamental logic issue, this is what we are observing:

1. Client sends Sync Request including folder F1 with SyncKey S1

2. Server sends a (potentially big - even over 100MB) Sync Response including folder F1 with SyncKey S2

3. Client starts receiving/processing the response

4. Error 80004005 (End of Stream) happens on client side (outlook\pstprx\storeas\eascontentdownloader.cpp:193) during receiving/parsing the response, usually when parsing the email that will be "missing" later - call it E1

5. Client sends next Sync Request including folder F1 with SyncKey S2

6. Email E1 is permanently missing.

In our opinion, we think the problem is: In Step 5 probably client should send SyncKey S1 again, as it has not correctly/fully interpreted the response from server from Steps 1 and 2.

Then the response should be correctly interpreted, including removing any possible duplicates that may be effect of the retry.

___________________________________________________________________________________

We also noticed the following oddity which suggests a separate issue/bug in the response parser code.

The connection times out or the response parser breaks on a valid response, causing error 80004005. We are quite sure as to which. However we are 100% certain that the server responded in a timely manner and that response was valid.

___________________________________________________________________________________

In the particular attempt for which we gathered and analyzed EAS logs as described above, 5 emails were missing in Outlook 2013 but were there in my Outlook.com account. And no issues with mobile devices.

Hope our analysis helps and Microsoft will resolve the issue quickly. We think its mostly a matter of following the EAS protocols properly, as most mobile devices, including Windows Mobile, do. If you need, I can zip up the entire set of logs from which we drew the above conclusions.

Bob,

Please send me the logs and if you have a current repro send all of the details in this document, https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=6117fc33d161d286&id=6117FC33D161D286%21137.

A number of people asked earlier if the fix is deployed site wide and I can confirm it is.  That fix will address the issue we found from everyone that sent me log files previously.  If anyone is still seeing an issue remove your account from Outlook and add it back.  This will enable a full sync required to address the issue from the fix deployed in February.  If after doing that step and you still see missing mail please send me logs and details in this document, https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=6117fc33d161d286&id=6117FC33D161D286%21137.

Hi Gabriel,

I have sent you all of the information that you requested. I hope that this will provide the necessary clues as to what the underlying issue is with respect to the implementation of Sync Keys in Outlook 2013.

I am curious as to what the Outlook.com/Outlook 2013 team has to say.

I'm another 'victim' :o(

Its the 6th April 2014 and I've lost all email from my inbox before this morning. (That's 2 year's worth)

I get my mail from an Exchange 2010 server. I'm using Outlook 2013 on a Windows 8.1 PC.

My 'sent' email seems to be OK.

If I click the link at the bottom of my 'today's' email which says 'Click here to view more on Exchange server' Then I see email from March 2012, therefore, I've lost 2 years worth of email.

I tried logging into Outlook Web Access, but its not there either.

I have an old laptop which I logged onto last September, and the mail is there (up to Sept 2013), however, that's without a connection to the Exchange server, but I'd really like all my mail back!

Anyone got any concrete answers for this yet please?

Your answer is not really a solution. It's like putting a band aid on a cut artery. At best it will get things in sync temporally only to have the same problem down the line.

I had this same problem some time ago when I first upgraded to 2013. After some office updates the problem went away. It is back now..

I find it offensive that outlook.com, outlook 2013 and EAS (also a microsoft product) don't work well with each other.

Here is an easier quick fix.

Login to outlook.com. Move the email to another folder. Move the email back to the inbox. It should now be in the inbox on outlook 2013.

After several people sent me logs over the last month the Outlook.com Product Team found a bug that will cause certain emails not to sync to Outlook, phones, or devices.  This latest issue was caused by a winmail.dat attachment being sent because part of a signature in the email uses RTF.  Outlook.com was not properly handling this case.  The fix for this issue is scheduled to roll out to the data center over the next few weeks.  Hopefully this will be completed by early May.

This is now May 21, 2014 and my gmail imap mail still doesn't appear in my Outlook 2013 Pro inbox.

Interestingly, email to two IMAP email accounts I have through GoDaddy do come in just fine to their respective inboxes, and do NOT disappear.

I have tried anything I can think of for my gmail account; the incoming mail is nowhere to be found.

What is the status of MS's planned April 2014 IMAP fixes?  Anything else anyone can share to help?

Much thanks;

--Linda

Hello,

Has the fix finally shipped? I am still having this problem and I end up having to use both Outlook.com and Outlook client to check my Inbox, which of course makes no sense. Where can we download the fix?

Had the same problem just come up after moving from IMAP to Office365. Our IT looked into it, and amazingly found that all the emails were actually on Outlook, but because there was a standard filter with IMAP, when we changed over, the IMAP filter transferred over, and so didn't show most of the emails.

So was showing online, but not in outlook.

Good news was, that all the emails were actually in Outlook, just filtered to not show.

To fix this, you need to remove the filter, and appy that view to all folders. Think following link talks about this issue:

Has this fix been rolled out and where can I find it to update my Outlook 2013?  I am missing emails in my Inbox on my computer but they are showing up on my iPhone.  I need them in BOTH places ASAP.  Also, some of my Sent emails, even when sent from my computer, do not show up until a day or more later in the Sent folder.  Will this fix take care of that as well??

Lol, it's so cute, all these people waiting for an answer while

1. nobody at Microschoft actually cares...

2. no they haven't solved it, no they will not solve it, no they will not tell you that they will not solve...

3. why? check at 1.

these sync problems arise because Outlook syncs incredibly slow,

e.g. when I create a new older in Outlook and immediately after that move some messages from Inbox into this new folder, those messages remain in Inbox on Outlook.com forever

for this not to happen, after creating & renaming folders in Outlook you have the wait for the next sync to complete. Only then Outlook.com would have the new or renamed folder and only then any messages you move into those folders in Outlook would have a chance to get moved into that same folder on Outlook.com too.

I have no idea why Outlook syncs to slowly. Thunderbird is incomparably faster than Outlook.

Outlook has always been a bad IMAP client. I thought that it would at least handle Exchange ActiveSync better but I got disappointed again.

For Outlook to sync properly, they just need to look how Thunderbird or even Microsoft's own Outlook Express implemented syncing because these two just work.

My Outlook 2013 missing email problems stopped around March/April of last year. Until then the problem would show up every couple weeks so I would rebuild the outlook .ost file to recover everything previously. Nothing missing since then. Solid for a year.
May 9th, 2015 9:15pm

I'm reading through this thread of emails about this problem. I noticed that Outlook 2013 on my desktop wasn't showing yesterday's email. My desktop is running Win 7 Home Premium and is a 64-bit system. My Samsung S III phone and Surface Pro2 both showed the emails. I use the Android outlook.com app for my phone and run Outlook 2013 on my tablet (using EAS and an .ost file). I forward all my email accounts to outlook.com and then connect my devices to outlook.com.

I got the emails to appear on my desktop in Outlook 2013 by creating a sub-directory on outlook.com and moving the missing email messages there. They then appeared on my desktop. I was then able to move them to the Inbox on my desktop. I removed the new sub-directory from the outlook.com file structure. I thought that fixed everything, but now the messages are completely gone from my phone and my Surface tablet.

I put a lot of research into how to best access my email with different devices and choose outlook.com. I hope these bugs get fixed soon. I notice that outlook.com is very slow to propagate changes from one device to another. Not sure if that's outlook.com or a device issue, but it seems like things just get messed up when more than one device is involved.

I am also experiencing that an email is present in outlook.com but does not show up in Outlook 2013. That is EXTREMELY risky, I could lose my job if the wrong email gets unnoticed.

I see that Microsoft has been chewing on this issue for years now, which is kinda' surprising since methods to safely and consistently keep items in sync have been invented for many decades now. It only escalates this further, that  ALL software components relevantly involved (Windows, Outlook, hotmail, etc.) are their products.

From what I see here (and in other places about this problem), Microsoft doesn't seem to understand the impact of this problem. This is not just a minor setback. Having a workaround to have a missing email appear is almost valueless. The whole point is about noticing the EMAIL EXISTS AT ALL. (The biggest damage is done by not knowing about the email at all, in which case I don't have a hunch that a workaround should be executed.)

A very (if not most) basic functionality of an email client is GETTING THE EMAILS. Failing in that is failing to deliver an email client in general. Which, in 2015, by Microsoft, is an EPIC FAIL.

I would really be interested to see the projection of this issue at Microsoft.

June 29th, 2015 5:52pm

After upgrading to Windows 10 (upgraded from windows 7, using a "personal data only" install as the "apps and data install" has the no-start menu bug), where, in Windows 7 Outlook 2013 continue to work just fine, the new Windows 10 install of Office 2013 downloads no emails after November 2011!

All current emails are visible in Outlook.com, and in Outlook 2016 Mac, Windows Mail in Windows 8.1, Outlook 2013 in Windows 8.1, as well as Windows Mail in Windows 10, and Windows 7 Outlook 20134, but not Outlook 2013 in Windows 10.

I've tried deleting the profile and re-adding, removing all other profiles, deleting the OST file, makes no difference.

Happy to work with any technical ppl to get to the bottom of it.

Amazing - I can't believe that so many people are experiencing this issue and Microsoft has done anything for the past 2 years!

I am on the same boat as everyone else. However, I have also a MacBook and can see all my emails in Mail. I am using my Mac now as I don't have any issues and my email are stable. Might come back in two years time to see if Microsoft have decided to look at this.

Good luck.
