Outlook 2013 meeting request does not update tracking info when meeting time is changed (using Exchange 2007)

We have Exchange 2007 and an increasing number of Outlook 2013 clients. If a meeting is created using Outlook 2013 the meeting acceptances are recorded in the tracking tab of that meeting. However, if the meeting is modified renewed acceptances are not recorded from people who previously accepted and the response column says "None", though acceptances from people who hadn't previously responded do get added to the tracking.

Furthermore if a meeting is created in OWA or Outlook 2007 everything works fine, but if the original meeting was created using Outlook 2013 modifications in any client do not then allow acceptances to be recorded in the tracking. If the meeting was created in OWA or Outlook 2007 modifications using 2013 still do not process into the tracking.

The acceptance messages that fail to record in tracking contain the text "We couldn't find this meeting in the calendar. It may have been moved or deleted. xxx has accepted this meeting."

Though I've found various threads about not processing tracking I can't find anything that matches this situation, and I can't think of any other combination to test. I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.

Hi,

For your situation, please try the following steps:

1. Please install the lasted update for Outlook 2013, and then check the issue.

2. Check if the AutomateProcessing calendar setting for your Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 is set to None.

If so, please make sure the Exchange Server administrator start the Exchange Management Shell on the Exchange mailbox server.

Then, run the following command in the Exchange Management Shell:

Set-MailboxCalendarSettings username -AutomateProcessing Autoupdate

Where username is the affected user's alias.

3. Switch to Online Exchange mode to test the issue.

Thanks for the response.

Outlook 2013 is at the latest update level on the machines I have tested this on. The AutomateProcessing settings are already set to Autoupdate, and the first thing I checked was turning off cached mode to ensure clients had an online view of their messaging.

Any other suggestions would be welcome.

It seems like if Outlook 2013 has any part in creating or modifying a meeting request by the request originator then renewed acceptances are not logged in the tracking for some reason, though the other clients I have tested seem to work OK (so far OWA and Outlook 2007).

Thanks

Mark

I just wanted to raise this again as we still haven't resolved the issue and was wondering if anybody else had any suggestions?

Thanks

Exchange 2007 + Outlook 2013 (last version)

Outlook 2013 + Exchange 2013 all work fine.

Thanks

No. Still have the problem. Service Pack 1 for Office 2013 hasn't resolved it either.

HelloMark,

This is a known problem with Microsoft but nothing will happenunless you prove we have very strong business impact statement on how your organization would be affected if the change was not implemented.

As a Premier customer, you certainly have the option of submitting a design change for this. However, with the above in mind, we would need to make sure we have a very strong business impact statement on how your organization would be affected if the change was not implemented.

Thanks for the reply.

We have many users who frequently arrange and re-arrange meetings who, as things stand, cannot trust the tracking status of meetings to know who is or isn't attending them. They therefore have to come up with other systems to manage the attendance such as storing the acceptance messages from recipients and recording such things in Excel. Surely Outlook should support Exchange Server fully for the lifecycle of Exchange support. This certainly isn't the first thing that we've discovered that does not work between Outlook 2013 and Exchange 2007. I know Microsoft wishes to drive everybody to the latest versions, and the cloud, but we will not be in a position for get Exchange upgraded for some months yet and Outlook ought to have supported this functionality with Exchange 2007 from the outset.

Was there ever a fix for this? We have exactly the same issues after upgrading to office 2013 (on a 2007 Exchange Server)

A fix shipped in the March Public Update for Outlook 2013, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2956170.  In case it addresses your scenario try installing the update and make sure you are running Outlook version 15.0.4701.1000 or greater.

Issue described in the KB article:

Consider the following scenario:
  • You configure Outlook 2013 to connect to your mailbox that is hosted on an Exchange Server 2007-based server.
  • You send a meeting request to another user.
  • You send an update of the meeting request to the user, and then you receive the response from the user.
In this scenario, the response status of the user in the Tracking tab is not updated.
