Outlook 2013 does not sync corretly with hotmail account

Outlook 2013 is not getting new emails after connecting my Hotmail account through ActiveSync. If I delete my Hotmail account in outlook, and recreate it, all emails up to the current ones will be downloaded, but after that no new emails will come in. Calendar and contact items seems to work just fine and sync both ways.

Mail is in the correct send/receive groups, and I have tried changing the auto sync to 15 and also 5 minutes. My windows phone is syncing email correctly which is how I know there are emails to view. After no success of recieveing emails, again I can delete, and recreate the account, again bringing all emails in, upto and including the most current, but again, anything after that first synce will not come through. I have tried manually syncing, and just waiting. The longest period I have waited was 6 days, and still no updates.

What is going on here? I need this connectivity?

On a side note, it works fine with Windows Mail in Windows 8 on 2 machines, My Windows Phone, and outlook 2010 with the connector on another machine. It seems to be solely a 2013 is

Hi,

Please disable the security AVG/Firewall, especially the mail scanner module to check whether it can sync again.

Also try repairing the .ost file and test again:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/outlook-help/repair-outlook-data-files-pst-and-ost-HA010075831.aspx

When it stops syncing, run Outlook in Safe Mode, could you sync emails again? If yes, disable suspicious add-ins to test again.

If none of the steps above could help you, please feel free to contact me again.

OK, Have tried disabling the AV, to no avail.

Opened in Safe Mode, but this made no difference. I didn't figure it would since it is a new install of office and Windows 8, with little to no "bells or whistles" so to speak so there are no Outlook Add-ins.

The ScanOST.exe file seems to be missing in the Outlook 2013 Install, but this should not make a difference as I have completely deleted the OST several times when attempting to recreate the connection. A little more information:

After the folder initially syncs, it is shown as Disconnected on the bottom of outlook, and the time the folder was last updated. further send/receives neither connect nor update the time it was last updated. Again, contacts and calendar work fine, just no new email shows up. If I close Outlook and reopen, the Update time refreshes to when it was opened, but the disconnect stays and still no new emails are loaded. Outlook task bar Icons constantly show the little yellow triangle with the exclamation mark, denoting there is a problem, which refers to my Hotmail account. All other aspects of Outlook are working correctly, including sending mail from this account.

Later tonight I am going to download and install Outlook 2013 on another computer and set up Hotmail to see if it is going to do the same thing. If you have any additional thoughts, please let me know.

and thank you for tr

Hi,

If you have tried installing Outlook 2013 on another computer, how was it? Since it's a new installation, I'd recommend you have also installed all the updates for both system and Outlook.

Try not using the proxy server if you were using it.

Please also try the steps blow:

1. Navigate to your Data files. by default it should be
 C: > Users > {user} > AppData > Local > Microsoft > Outlook
2. Move your email outlook data file and paste it somewhere (You need to close outlook before doing so)
3. Open outlook. You will notice it will create a new data file as you have moved away the old one.
4. Close your outlook and paste the data file which you have moved earlier back into the folder.

Let me know the result whether if it works.

Regards.

I have not tried on another machine, as recent time constraints have made me have to set this aside for a bit.

I have tried completely reinstalling Outlook, and completely recreating the Hotmail ost file, thereby effectively negating your solution.

On another note, it seems that if I leave outlook on it will occasionally update Hotmail. The last time it received messages was  now yesterday, so about once every two days it will receive messages. Sending still works correctly and immediately, just receiving doesn't, and it always shows as disconnected (which I know is not completely true as contacts added from my phone, online, or in outlook, update across all appropriately.)

Hi,

I wonder if it's a conflict caused by other programs.

Please perform a clean boot to determine whether background programs are interfering with Outlook:

Was there any resolution to this? I have exactly the same problem and can't figure out how to get Outlook "unstuck" from the disconnected state for receiving email. I've tried everything stated above and nothing has made a difference. When I try to manually initiate a send/receive, I just get a quick flash of a window appearing/disappearing and nothing in my inbox updates. I know there is new mail there because I can see it on outlook.com. What's going on? Does Outlook 2013 not support connections to Hotmail accounts?

I am have a very similar issue and I have tried multiple PC's and every option under the sun. I am an IT Consultant and as such have easy access to lots of test hardware, and I have tried them all.

I no way can I get Outlook 2013 to background (or even manually) sync when running on Windows 8.

I have tried with IMAP and even Exchange Active Sync accounts.

Windows 8/Outlook 2010 = works fine

Windows 7/Outlook 2013 = works fine

Windows 8/Outlook 2013 = No go

The only way I can get NEW mail is to close and reopen Outlook...

I have tried different hardware, same outcomes.

My answer - Ditch Windows 8 and go back to Windows 7 ...

I had the same or a very similar problem today when setting up a new PC. The way I got around it and it seems to be working so far was to change the Offline Settings from All to 1 Month then back to All.

Open the Account Settings Dialog
FILE > Info > Account Settings > Account Settings...

On the E-mail tab select the Hotmail/Outlook.com account and select Change

I had to change the account from Automatic to Manual. This is what allowed me to see the Offline Settings value. I finished the setup and waited for Outlook to complete syncing. This took about 10-15 min for the month's worth of emails.

Once completed I changed the setting back to All. I saw the newer emails right away (prior it had stopped at 2011 emails) and every 5 min or so it began syncing older emails in batches. It took a long time to get several years of emails.

I've similar problems.

There are clearly issues with Activesync when using Outlook 2013 under Windows 8.1.

When I delete emails in Outlook 2013, the emails remain in the Outlook.com online version in their original folder, until I purge the 'Deleted Items' in Outlook 2013.

Email push to Outlook 2013 is haphazard, sometimes immediate, sometimes nothing happens for a few hours then avalanche.

If I open emails first on my mobile then they do not appear on Laptop / PC Outlook 2013 unless I move them out and back into my inbox in the online version...

Firewall checks out fine and are not blocking any communications to Outlook.com etc.

Thanks... :)
