Outlook 2013 disconnecting from m.hotmail.com for *certain* accounts

My wife & I both use Outlook 2013 to synchronise against m.hotmail.com for our email, calendars, etc.

Today, my wife started experiencing problems with her two email accounts, in that Outlook would just say "Disconnected" and refuse to connect. I tried repairing the installation of Outlook and I tried removing the accounts & putting them back but that didn't make any difference.

My own laptop is fine ... until I add one of *her* email accounts to *my* copy of Outlook. When I then navigate to the Inbox for that account, Outlook disconnects. I've enabled advanced logging in Outlook and this is what I've discovered:

<Error>
  <Hr>80004005</Hr>
  <Message>The server returned an error, but we will continue trying to sync.</Message>
  <HttpStatus>HTTP/1.1 200 OK</HttpStatus>
  <HttpHeaders>: HTTP/1.1 200 OK

Content-Length: 43

</HttpHeaders>
  <SyncStatus>SyncStatus: 5</SyncStatus>
  <File>outlook\pstprx\storeas\utils\airsyncstatuscodes.h</File>
  <Line>127</Line>
</Error>

I can access her email account through outlook.com, and her Windows Phone continues to synchronise OK. Curiously, the phone continues to use "m.hotmail.com" but Outlook has modified that to dub-m.hotmail.com. Changing it to m.hotmail.com is accepted but it changes again.

Is there a server problem here or something else wrong with her accounts? If so, is there anything I can do to try and get it resolved?

Thanks.

Philip

Glad it isn't just me, although that doesn't help you :-).

I'm *pretty* sure, given the logging message, that this is a server-side problem. One thing I did think of but forgot to mention (and it would be interesting to know if this applies to MCV2012 as well) is that my wife's two Hotmail accounts were previously linked. She did not unlink them prior to the cut-off date from Microsoft regarding the removal of that feature (and it isn't possibly to manually unlink them now) so I don't know if that has any bearing on the problem.

The good news is that ONE of my wife's email accounts is now synchronising through Outlook.

The bad news is that it isn't her main account so her frustration levels continue to build.

Is there an official communications channel I can use for escalation problems like this?

I've heard that Outlook.com/Hotmail is having serious problems at the moment. Hopefully they'll have it fixed soon. You can see the current status at downrightnow.com.

Have had this problem also for the last 2 days. All was working/synching fine, and have been in permanent state of 'disconnected' unless I do a manual send/receive, which it then 'tried to connect' before defaulting to disconnect.

I have two Outlook.com accounts connected to Outlook 2013 and they were both experiencing connection problems until today.  Everything is now working fine for me it would seem.  I deleted my main email account from Outlook 2013 and reconnected it which did not fix the problem.  I left my second account as it was and they are now both working correctly.  It would seem to me that the problems are completely server-side and if anyone is still experiencing problems then hopefully Microsoft are busy trying to get your account fixed.  Good luck!

I was in the same boat, guys. This morning the error has spread to other MS accounts. One of my outlook.com accounts is online, but other two are offline. live.com is offline as well as hotmail.com.

Weird thing is, the ancient Windows Live Mail client (on W7) works fine for all accounts. Seems like EAS is broken. I have tried all servers I am aware of (m.hotmail.com, blu-m.hotmail.com; bay-m.hotmail.com), without any success.

Thankfully the problem seems to have moved away from my wife's accounts now so she is a lot happier :-).

I do wish there was a better way of asking for help/support, though - it is somewhat worrying that nobody from MS posted to this thread and I don't know what I would have done if the issue was more localised than the larger outage it turned into.

Same issue as above, phone will work, on-line hotmail will work, but Outlook is 95% disconnected - seems to work **at times**

for what it's worth - this is what worked for me. I logged in to outlook.com with my disconnected account. I attempted to send an email to MYSELF - sending email from outlook.com to other accounts seemed to usually work. I then immediately got an error saying that MS has noticed unusual activity on my account and I needed to verify my account. I sent myself a text message from their error page and then entered in the code they gave me. I then had to EXIT outlook.com and then log back in again before I could send email.

After doing that I am no longer getting disconnected errors in outlook 2013.

Continue to have this issue.

Have built a new profile from scratch; Outlook 2013 client works fine for a day or so, then reverts back to the "Disconnected."

The temporary fix is to go to "Send/Receive" menu, then click on "Work Offline" to forcibly disconnect; then click on it again to work "online" which resolves it for a while.

All of the same server-side issues mentioned previously.

All of my updates are in effect, etc.

It works for a while, then stops.  Not a client-side problem, certainly.

Same problem, I thought the outlook 2010 connector was bad.. Activesync connection via outlook 2013 is worse.  I doesn't even sync right.  I can send 2 emails to my Hotmail account, check my Hotmail account through webmail and it's perfect, then I check my email through outlook 2013 and 1 email is missing ...   also accessing Hotmail via activesync on my iPhone is also flawless, it's purely outlook 2013 issue.

Any word on a fix for this, Microsoft?  Outlook 2013 seems to be disconnected at least 50% of the time it's open.  The same EAS account on my phone works fine.
