Outlook 2013 To-Do Bar Appointments with only one Day????

Hi!

I just stop using Outlook 2013 Preview and switch back to Outlook 2010 for ony ONE reason:
The Outlook 2013 Preview To-Do Bar show only Appointments from current day.
No overview over the appointments of the next day.

With this tool no one can work!
I think this is a real joke from Microsoft to cancel this feature.

What was the reason to remove this feature?

Thanks for posting your feedback.  The To-Do-Bar functionality was changed in Outlook 2013 to use the new Peek pinning feature.  We have recieved lots of other feedback to add next day meetings to the Calendar Peek.  Hopefully this functionality can be added in a future update.

I cannot function without this missing option myself.

I ended up using a workaround (Google the names, no links below) as such with my Win 8 desktop and Office 2013 setup:

Used 8GadgetPack to reinstall the sidebar for gadgets from Win 7,

Downloaded Outlook Appts gadget from Slipstick (page named "Using Windows Gadgets with Outlook")

Copied the download 'OutlookAppointmentsGadget.gadget' to the "%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets\" directory

Added the gadget to the sidebar

Changed it to Large to show 5 appts

I realize this isn't optimal but at least I have a preview of the next few appts. Multiple monitors help here as well.

Sigh. I just bought two copies of Office 2013 to get my hands on the latest Outook. Only to find the main productivity tool - the ability to at a glance see what's up the next few days - is GONE?? But HELLO???

I would accept if it was removed as default but I had the ability to turn the feature on but this... MS... You just made this customer very upset. I was actually 50/50 on going the open source route before I bought. Now you just made my mind up. Have fun with my money, it'll be the last you get!

The product manager in charge of accepting a decision to remove existing features completely should be sent home without pay. It's absolutely insanely ignorant and shows no respect to existing customers who expect an upgrade to be... well... an upgrade and not a downgrade.

Shame, Microsoft! Shame!!!!

EDIT: Forgot to say: in Outlook 2010 days with appointments were BOLD which also gave me a quick idea when someone on the phone was asking for a suggestion of days for appointments. Please get this back too!!!

Installed Office 2013 as a demo for a customer (and for myself). After we both saw the lack of features in the ToDo bar (only one month shown, appointments for one day only, appointments in calendar not in bold text) we both decided to revert to 2010. I see no reason to remove these features. At the very least, there should be options for the user to enable them (ie, "Outlook 2010 ToDo Bar compatibility").

Also, the background in the message window does not pick up the Windows background color setting - it remains white. This should be a user definable setting - or at the very least, it should be the same as it always was in the past.

For anyone that is stuck using Outlook 2013, there is a semi decent third party add-in that gives us more than what Microsoft did.

http://outlook2013addin.codeplex.com/

I installed it.  It's nowhere near the capabilities of the To-Do bar in Outlook 2010, but at least it's something.

I am sorely disappointed that Microsoft removed such an incredibly useful feature.  I am in Outlook all day long and any steps that can save me 30 seconds of having to click to a different screen and back again, adds up very fast.  Add me to the list of people that feel cheated from their money by the removal of a feature that should have been kept in.

You have to wonder if any of the now legal Washington state marijuana made it into the Outlook development building in Redmond.  This is par for the course for MS.  Get users used to good features and then poop on their parade and pull it.  Like the preview pane taking 1/3 of the horizontal space with header information that YOU CANNOT TURN OFF.  It's fine that you want to add that feature BUT ALLOW USERS TO TURN IT OFF BECAUSE THEY MAY NOT LIKE IT AS MUCH AS YOU DO.

I have been searching for a few weeks now trying to see if there was some kind of update patch that fixed this problem.  All I seem to read is that Microsoft wants us to use the Peek feature.  The biggest issue I have with Peek is that clicking to see it is an extra step.  Docking it just puts it back like the to-do bar. And worst of all, you still can't see beyond schedule items for the day.

What is the point of entering schedule items in the future if you cant see it coming? Oh, my bad. Technically you can, but you have to spend your day clicking on every date to see what is scheduled for that date.

Outlook should be renamed to No-look.  I can't believe I spent money upgrading to 2013.

IT has been almost a Year & STILL NO FIX. aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

This is pathetic & shows how Microsoft listens to programmers & not every day users, this is the NUMBER ONE thing that NEEDS to be re-added, I have missed so many morning meetings because I can not see the next few days calendar entrys.  Outlook 2013 has turned into a backward email system by not haveing the fundermental option available to up all.

August 15th, 2013 8:50am

I can't believe Microsoft is removing these "little used features" that we depend on every day! Don't they even use their own products? This is about the 5th "little used feature" I've seen removed from Office 2013, that I use every day. Are they shooting themselves in the foot?

This is pretty much the final straw with Outlook as far as I'm concerned.  I've switched to eM Client, which provides pretty much all the functionality of Outlook (including future appointments in the todo bar), is highly configurable, PLUS in addition to my MS exchange account, I can access my google email, calendars and contacts without having to use that idiotic google app sync program.

oh yeah AND ITS FREE!!

Thus ends my evaluation of Office365.

I don't know how many of these kinds of posts it will take to get MS to pay attention to its customers, that is, beyond the "Thank you for your feedback.  We will consider reading it before choosing to ignore you altogether" types of responses.

But one more certainly won't hurt.

Why is it, that everytime Microsoft introduces a new version of an OS, Office, whatsoever, they take out functionality "because probably nobody is using it"? WRONG!

With such a huge amount of users, one can be assured that ANY feature in ANY program is used by A LOT OF people. Do you want to develop new features? Absolutely fine with me, be my guest. But keep the old features working! Rule number one in developing new programs: downwards compatibility! Is it so damn hard?

A fresh install of Windows or Office is already a few Gigabytes, so saving space definitely cannot be the reason. Why are you guys so ignorant? You try to please us with a "we may consider, in the future, possibly update, blah blah blah". A year has passed, now GET TO WORK and NEVER, EVER remove ANY functionality in whatever new version of whatever new software package you're developing!

August 23rd, 2013 8:40am

I only installed the Office 2013 trial because it was posted as the solution to being able to open a OneNote Live  notebook after transferring machines. I also wanted to test out the Excel 2013 BI features. In addition to losing the multi-day appointments preview, I don't understand why Outlook is the only Office 2013 app that REPLACED itself instead of installing the versions side-by-side.

I'm terribly disappointed in Outlook 2013 and seriously considering uninstalling just to get Outlook 2010 back.

I'm part of a test group to determine if my company should move to 2013 or not.  I completely agree not having my meeting and appointments display for the week makes the ability to quickly see your work load easy.  With out it my vote will be to stick with 2010 until this feature is fixed.   I can't image the reaction I will get from mangers when they find out this feature is not available.

September 16th, 2013 5:17pm

I do greatly appreciate that MS is trying to stream line their apps. However my issue is them focusing on what is considered normal use instead of focusing on any scenario of the use. How about another feature to allow the run of that ToDo Calendar on its own. I mean with 2013 I am getting a hit on every synch of any folders.

  • display more than 1 month in the viewing pane

  • only display upcoming appointments for that day

So far that what I have noticed. I hope there are no more "deletions" to add to this list

When you apply Hotfix KB2825677, the Calendar Peek will show appointments for up to 7 days (when space permits it) in advance starting from the selected date (in the Date Navigator).

You can request the hotfix via the download link at the top of this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2825677

This feature might have already been pushed out to you when you are using Office 365 Home Premium. The built number should be 15.0.4535.1507 or higher.

This feature fix will also be included in future regular updates which will supersede this hotfix.

I was pleasantly surprised to see this light up in Outlook 2013 today.  Its a great start!

I hope soon we will get an update that will:
* Bold the dates that have appointments
* All right-click ability on meetings that exposes forward, reply-all etc.

Then we'll be nearly back to the level of productivity we were before we installed the latest Outlook!

Wow - Well Done Microsoft....Finally listened to users & partners.

What next to fix...

A Windows 8 start button menu layout in a form of Windows 7/XP
Lowering the price of Project and Visio
Bring back the Windows XP installation music  (makes a fantastic sound effect when installing 5 or more Windows XP PC's simultaneously)
...any other ideas?

FYI - fix is KB2837618: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2837618/

And mentioned here: http://www.howto-outlook.com/ :

MS13-094: Security updates for Outlook 2007/2010/2013

A security update has been released for Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 (including Outlook 2013 RT) to address a vulnerability which could allow information disclosure.

An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could ascertain system information, such as the IP address and open TCP ports, from the target system and other systems that share the network with the target system.

The security update addresses the vulnerability by correcting the way that Microsoft Outlook parses specially crafted S/MIME email messages.
Note: The Outlook 2013 version of this update also contains the fixes mentioned in Hotfix KB2825677 which includes the To-Do Bar showing appointments for upcoming days.

Now, can the dates PLEASE be bolded again? Why are we even having to ask for this?  Maybe you guys should poach some people from other companies that actually think about usability before making drastic design alterations?

The Hotfix in KB2837618 causes a couple of new issues for Outlook 2013. Here they are in order of severity:

  1. Other users' availability is no longer visible when creating new meetings in the calendar view.
  2. The Month displayed at the top of the To-Do Bar is highlighted in dark grey so that it's not legible.

In order to revert to a usable To-Do bar again, the hotfix must be uninstalled and your Outlook Profile must be deleted and recreated. See the following links that talk about the problems with this Hotfix:

  • http:// www.infoworld.com/t/microsoft-windows/botched-outlook-2013-patches-kb-2837618-and-kb-2837643-break-out-of-office-reply-freebusy-and-more-232055
  • https:// helpdesk.missouristate.edu/tag/kb2837618

Avoid this security update. It causes more issues with the calendar than it fixes.

By the way, if you seek a third-party solution, you may come across the following CodePlex add-in:

  • https:// outlook2013addin.codeplex.com/

That one worked for me for a while, but it started causing the same problems with not being able to see other users' availability recently so I had to uninstall it too. Use that one at your own risk.

SUMMARY: The To-do bar issues is still NOT fixed.

You can add my vote as another frustrated Outlook 2013 user who desires the old To-Do bar functionality to to be implemented in 2013. The Peek functionality hinders productivity, as I have to hover over the Calendar object and then start clicking to see meetings on different days. The old To-Do bar was just there.

Please fix the 2013 To-Do bar.

7 days is a decent start. Now if they could just display all the calendars. I have 2 accounts, for 2 separate entities. It only displays the upcoming appointments for the first account. The full calendar can pull it off, why not the to-do?
July 8th, 2014 8:29pm

Wow. Just stumbled across this issue. After transitioning today from MS Schedule Plus and leapfrogging through MS Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2010, I was just settling in and noted this issue.

Scary bad for me.

And clearly as a use of Schedule Plus (it was a workaround to last as long as I did ) I relied heavily on the "to do bar" in quickly accessing various years. I don't and won't ever be using the outlook email functionality, so a change to the Calendar in any way beyond what I suffering already is measure to find a straight up Calendar app.

So, Microsoft finally found a way to get rid of me....slowly, but surely. Already have the boss on open source office

Perhaps they'll solve the crisis by the time I need to migrate next, but there's no reason for me to "test" any later versions of office now.

Wow. Just stumbled across this issue.

Which issue are you referring to? The original one discussed in this thread that the To-Do Bar only shows upcoming appointments of the current day? That has been fixed a long time ago already. It now shows up to 7 days in advance of the selected day onwards.
January 5th, 2015 12:44pm

I will add my post to the million there are already onSite, making a million and one, I guess.

Yes, Outlook 2013 is almost ugly.  Even GMail looks better.  And the ToDo bar mess.

My idea for Microsoft:  Trash Outlook 2013 and copy Outlook 2010 into 2013.  Fire a few lower level managers while you are at it!

Best idea of all:  Buy a Mac and never look back!
