Outlook 2013 IMAP E-Mail Sync Problems

I'm using Outlook 2013 and have run into a few problems.  First, when checking my email, not all messages appear in my Inbox.  Comparing the inboxes of the desktop Outlook client and the online web access of my personal account (not Outlook.com), I can see a few dozen emails from over the past week that have not been synced.  I cannot sense a pattern as to why some have been downloaded and some haven't (some have been read and some unread, none flagged or otherwise altered) but it's quite frustrating to not be able to rely on something as straightforward as checking email.  I have used this email account for over 10 years and past versions of Outlook without any problems.

Furthermore, whenever I start Outlook I have to switch folders from Inbox to another and back again before the 'Inbox synchronization' begins. If I do not change folders, Outlook runs a Send/Receive but doesn't alter the messages, just leaving the Inbox as it was last time I opened the program.  Granted I only have to click to any folder and back to the Inbox to get it working, but it's yet another issue I'm having with a brand new program.

Please let me know if there are any work arounds or known bugs but I'd prefer not to try any actions that will only address past problems and not future ones (e.g. solutions proposed like 'delete account and recreate' sound to me like it would only do a re-sync now but not affect any future errors).  I appreciate your input and effort to help me address this.  Also, please don't hesitate to ask for more information (server name, settings, etc.).

Hi,

For both issues, please run Outlook in Safe Mode to determine if it's 3rd-party add-ins related:

Press Win + R and type outlook.exe /safe in the blank box, then press Enter.

If theres no problem in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.

We may also try repairing Office in Control Panel to check the result.

Since a new profile always helps many users, we suggest you can have a try:

If you use an IMAP account on Outlook, you don't have to worry about the loss of data since it will sync automatically from the server and create a new data file.

I hope the information is helpful.

Regards.

I am having trouble with outlook 2013 on Windows 7. I cannot delete emails from the list view, I can delete it if I open the  email.  I have set the emails up as IMAP. I have tried the fix off entering "Inbox" under the advance section of root folder but that has not worked for me.

I have also noticed that e mails are sitting in the outbox, I have not worked out if they are being sent and just sitting there or if they are not even getting sent.

Any help gratefully received

I've combed the web for this issue, which I've had ever since installing MS Office 2013.  I have exactly the same problem.  Sometimes, even switching to a different folder & back to the Inbox will not do it.  There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it - it's simply flaky.

Today, it just plain will not sync the Inbox at all.  It syncs some other folders, but my settings are all the same.  Creating a new profile does not address this issue.

I found reference to MS promising better IMAP support in Office 2013, but I'm afraid I just don't see it.

I am having the exact same problems as Balchman (above) with the Inbox sync in Outlook 2013.

I tried running the program in safe mode, but continue to have the same problems in safe mode.

Is there a solution to this yet?  From the threads I have been reading, this issue has been going on for nearly a year, if not longer.  Has Microsoft not come up with a fix for this yet?  It seems there are many, many people having the same issues with IMAP sync - specifically the Inbox sync.

I had this same problem, wow a year later.. huh.. anyway I find that if I click "Update Folder" on the Send/Receive tab it suddenly shows my new email.. Not sure why it wouldn't do this automatically.
