Outlook 2013 Hotmail Sync Broken - missing messages

My wife uses Outlook 2013 synced to Hotmail.

There are messages that appear on Windows Phone and in the Hotmail (Outlook) Browser Client but which are clearly missing in the Outlook 2013 thick client.

Outlook shows all folders up to date

I assume this can only be a bug in the Hotmail Sync ???

Are there any fixes for this.  This is a serious issue, if you can not trust your email client then time to look elsewhere, but I would prefer to leave her on Outlook.

Thanks all,

Terry Clancy

Hi,

First please try resetting view in Outlook, test if you can find the missing emails:

VIEW tab -> Reset View.

Please also try to search them by keywords in Advanced Find:

SEARCH tab -> Search Tools -> Advanced Find.

We may also create a new profile and re-setup the account in Outlook, as for Hotmail, we suggest you use Exchange Activesync.

This has NOT been resolved

In addtion I can add that if you use the 1 month back setting for emails present in the inbox, it works, but you only have one months worth of emails. if you set it to all.

Then it delete two years worth of emails, and "it" chooses to keep the olderst.

This can be recreated, every time.

And I tried to solve this be deleting both OST, PST and profile, same situation.

Nothing wrong with my general email account on my own domain, only the hotmail sync to Outlook 2013 64bit, that doesnt work at all.

I read back, and this issue started back in january.

The kb2810015 doens not work either.

So this issue has been around for 10 months

So...when is a fix available as promised by quite a few MSFTs

Hi,

Did you setup your Hotmail account via Exchange Activesync? It is recommended when you setup a Hotmail account in Outlook 2013. The following article may be helpful to you to understand Exchange ActiveSync.

Office 2013 Feature Focus: Exchange ActiveSync:

http://winsupersite.com/article/office-2013-beta2/office-2013-feature-focus-exchange-activesync-143973

If you have an other Hotmail account, we suggest you setup it on Outlook 2013 and test the result. If there' no issue with the other account and you setup them in the exactly same way, it may be account related and we may contact the forum in the link below:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive

If you have other versions of Outlook like Outlook 2010, we may use Outlook Hotmail Connector to access and manage your Hotmail account, test if you have this issue. If there's no issue while you are using Outlook Hotmail Connector, try repairing Office 2013 in Control Panel.

Feel free to contact me again if my understanding is not accurate.

Thanks,

Melon Chen

Hello,

I have been seeing the same problem. And researching the internet for a long time for a fix. There is no fix yet, however there is a workaround if it helps you.

Create a new account in Outlook 2013 and setup as POP3

POP server - pop3.live.com

SMTP Server - smtp.live.com

Enable encryption in the advanced pages. Enable - keep a copy on the server (so other devices get a copy of the same email)

Until Microsoft sort out Outlook 2013 I use the above to ensure I get all my emails from hotmail account into my Outlook 2013 program.

Hope this helps.

This has still not been resolved.

Riley suggestion using pop as workaround works somewhat. As mails doesnt get marked as read

But the main issue is that Outlook 2013 doesnt support outlook.com, as most of my mails stays on the server.

And Melon, I am sorry to say, your suggestions has no effect what so ever.

Melon

I just reread your replies to the initial poster.

My best guess is that you havnt read what he and I wrote.

Its Outlook 2013 using hotmail(outlook.com) thats broken, it simply doesnt work.

And its reproduceable every time, you either get one months email from the server or you can choose all emails, and get no where near whats there.

My suggestion is that you get someone from the outlook.com and/or the office product group to have a look at this.

Have you tried to use the x86 version? I had similar issues with the 64bit version. It seemed to me the 64bit version has lots of issues. After moving back to the 32bit most of the things seems to be working(least for now).

Hello,

same Problem here and nothing i have seen so far seems to solve the issue. MS is going to Adobe and Oracle Quality Level quickly. Not even compatible to it's own products and Services.

In the beginning, outlook 2013 is OK to send and receive hotmail, but I have found that it couldn't receive new emails since January 2014. And  iPad and Windows Phone is OK under the same router. I have tried delete the hotmail account and pst file then add the hotmail account using Exchange Activesync way, but the issue remains.

I have been having the same issue where every few days, some emails will not be delivered through Outlook connector but are visible in web view.

Something strange I tried today, I marked some of those missing emails as Read and they started showing up in Outlook as well.  I marked all of them as Read and all of them showed up in my Outlook.

Is there a solution to this problem or do we need to migrate to GMail? I pay an annual fee for extra storage to Microsoft but messages not being delivered as expected is just not acceptable.
