Outlook 2013 & Gmail - Multiple Unread Drafts In Trash Folder (Windows 8)

Hi,

I see there have been similar problems with Outlook 2013 and Gmail, and I hope I am not asking a questin that has already been answered. But here goes:

The problem I am encountering is after working on a lengthy email, the Trash folder will have multiple unread copies which I have to then delete. These drafts are also in the on-line Gmail Drafts folder.

Not a huge problem, just more irritating than anything else.

Thanks!!

Hi,

It seems this is a known issue of Gmail.

To work around, we have to configure Outlook to save your Drafts folder on the local machine, not the IMAP server.

This issue also occurs when using other email clients, you can also post this issue in Gmail forum.

Thanks.

Hi, has solution been found yet? I have the same problem, but the multiple unread draft is shown in the Trash folder, not in the on-line Gmail Draft folder.

Inside Outlook 2013 Option, I have already selected to save unsent item into the Drafts folder.

Hi Steve,

This is a good answer but you don't tell us how to configure for local drafts. I have tried and Outlook does not allow for this to happen saying: "Cannot unsubscribe from folder [gmail]\drafts it is a special folder and cannot be unsubscribed from Outlook." Can you offer further advice?

I had this same problem, and the trick for me was to log into my Gmail account through a web browser and remove the Gmail label called "[Imap]\Drafts" and similar labels. (Note that this will not delete your actual Gmail drafts folder.)  By default, these labels appear on the left side of the screen when you log into Gmail (immediately under "Circles" for me); to delete them, hover your mouse over the label, click on the drop-down arrow, and click "Remove label."

Upon deleting those labels, my Outlook drafts stayed on my local machine in Outlook (in the Drafts folder), and Gmail drafts go into the Gmail server folder. Hope this helps.
