Outlook 2013: Cannot create a new email or meeting request, or make any edits to a contact, from the people view

For reference, this thread began in the Office 365 support forums. You can review that discussion here: [http://]community.office365.com/en-us/forums/148/p/190460/563546.aspx?wa=wsignin1.0. P.S. The link is deliberately broken. My apologies. The forum tells me that I cannot post links or images until my account is verified. I have no idea how long that takes.

The issues occur in Outlook 2013 for desktop on Windows 8. They are specific to my user account/computer. They do not replicate in the Outlook Web App.

Issue 1

From the Contacts pane, the default view is People. This view is useful for searching, but I am unable to create a new email message, meeting request, or anything else from within it. Neither the buttons (directly to the right of the contact's photo) nor the links below ("Schedule a meeting" "Send email" etc.) function. There is no response when they are clicked, just nothing.

If you go to the above-linked thread, you will see screenshots of this behavior. Note that in People view, the "Communicate" section of the ribbon (top left of the image) does NOT include a button for email. By contrast, if I view the same contact as a Business Card, the "Communicate section DOES include an Email button. From the Business Card or Card view, I am able to create new email messages and schedule meetings without issue.

Issue 2

There is another connected issue. Whenever I attempt to make any changes or additions to a contact from the People view, I receive the following error: "We can't save your changes right now. Please try again later." As is the case with creating a new email message, if I switch to another view I am able to edit contacts.

Attempts at troubleshooting

  1. Repair outlook profile. Delete and rebuild profile. No effect.
  2. Alter cached exchange mode setting. No effect.
  3. Re-install entire office suite. No effect.

Any assistance would be very appreciated.

Issue 1, I think it's probably by design.

Hi,

If everything is ok on other PCs and your PC is the only one that has been affected, the issue is probably on your own Office client.
I suggest you troubleshoot the issues in Safe Mode:
Press Win + R and type outlook.exe /safe in the blank box, then press Enter.
If theres no problem in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused the issues.

I use Outlook 2013 On Windows 8. On my side, things are just like as you described "in People view, the 'Communicate' section of the ribbon (top left of the image) does NOT include a button for email" and "if I view the same contact as a Business Card, the "Communicate section DOES include an Email button". This doesnt seem to be a problem.

Regards.

You don't see this as a problem???? That when you are in the Communicate section you are unable to communicate in the method you want ie email???

Wow, no wonder we can't get things corrected/improved if the TechNet Community Support personnel inject their own preferences in place of the customer!!!
