Outlook 2013, Items counter (bottom/left), always zero for second account...

I've noticed that an additional Office 365 account to Outlook 2013 does not populate the Items counter (bottom/left (in the Status bar)).

What's going on here???

Hi,

Does this issue happen with all folders in the additional Office 365 account?

Have you tried starting Outlook with /cleanviews switch? Press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type outlook /cleanviews and press Enter.

Does this issue continue if we change the additional Office 365 account to the default account in your mail profile? We can also try creating a new mail profile in Control Panel and then configure the additional Office 365 account separately in the new mail profile to see if this issue continues.

Please let me know the result.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply.  the /cleanviews didn't seem to do much.

I tried changing the default profile, exiting and restarting Outlook.  The counter started working, but it took a couple of minutes.

Then I changed the default profile back to 'my' one.

And guess what, the counter is still working on the second account.

So toggling them seemed to trigger Outlook into doing something.  And glad I didn't have to make a new profile!

So it's back to working, but I don't quite know why.  (The default profile was changed to the second account about a month ago, because I needed it that way - and then changed back a few days later.  Perhaps that's when the counter stopped updating - but I can't confirm that).

Outlook, it's got a mind of it's own sometimes.  It's big and beautiful, but anything big's got a lot of bugs! :)

Cheers,  Duncan.

Update...

Since changing back to default to 'my' account - the counter has stopped working.

It worked for a few minutes, after changing back - and now it's back to not working.

I'll try creating a new profile after work, add the accounts in, and see how that goes.

Cheers,  Duncan.

Hi Duncan,

Any update on this issue? Have you tried creating a new mail profile?

Hi,

Thanks for the followup Steve - no I've not tried a new profile - just been too busy - it's my personal *and* work account too.  I know I can just swap back.

I'll endeavour to get it done tonight and report back.

Cheers,  Duncan.

I should add - that the counter is now, sometimes, working - since toggling the default account.  Got a mind of it's own I reckon.

But the Sent and Deleted Items counter never shows on the second account.  Other folders, sometimes.

Thank you for the update, Duncan. Have you got any chance to test the issue within a new mail profile?

If a new profile still doesn't work, we can also try enabling the items counter on each folder as a workaround. To do this, right click a folder and select Properties. Then, select the "Show total number of items" bullet and click OK. We need to perform this action on each folder.

Hi Steve,

Just done it now.

All is working - so far. :)

Including the 'special folders' - such as Sent, Deleted etc.

On your suggested work-around - not sure what's up there, on every folder I've looked at (in the new profile of course, and no doubt the old too), the "Show number of unread items" is the default.

But the counter seems to ignore that?  It shows the total number of items, even in the folders it hasn't fully populated yet (still in sync).  Weird that.  Anway... it's working as I want it with the new profile - will see how it goes in the next few days, and if it remains well, I'll deleted the old profile.  Everything has pleasantly migrated across; my VBA code and even my custom forms (which I thought I'd have to reload in (that was a PITA when I first moved from in-house Exchange to Office 365)).

Update#3: OK, so the workaround thing instructs Outlook in how to display the counter on the particular folder itself (unread or all items) - and is not relevant to the Counter at the bottom, eh.  :)

Cheers,  Duncan.

The Counter is back to zero, not updating on the second account - day two on the new profile.

Perhaps this is an Outlook bug???

It's back to square one.

BTW: just tried the work-around method - right-click a folder, set the radio-button to "Show total number of items" (my emphasis), and it um... doesn't!  Zero, nada, nothing.

Thank you for the update. As far as I know, there is not such a limitation in Outlook. I'd like to collect more information regarding this issue:

1. How did you configure the two email account in your Outlook?

2. After changing the additional Office 365 account to the default account, does the items counter work on the original default account? Please keep the additional email account as default for several days to verify this.

3. Try configure the two account on another computer to check if this issue continues.

Please let me know the result.
