Outlook 2010 users getting Password Prompt until shared mailboxes are removed

Hi,

some (around 20) of my 3000 outlook 2010 users are getting Password Promts while using outlook.
This started end of last week without any change to the environment.
The prompt goes away if we unmount and remount additional mailboxes they have mounted.

Any idea what could be causing this or where to start debugging?

Backend is Exchange 2013 and 2007 in migration.
Thanks for every idea

It seems that only users with additional, shared mailboxes get the password prompt.
If we remove and re-add the shared mailboxes to the outlook client, the password prompt is not shown again.

What information gets changed during the readding of the additional mailboxes? Any registry info or chache?

Hi,

How did you mount additional mailboxes? Via File > Account Settings > Account Settings > Double-click the Exchange account > More Settings > Advanced tab > Add?

Are the additional mailboxes hosted on the same version of Exchange server with thoese mailboxes with the password prompting issue? If this is the case, this issue often happens if you have a hybrid deployment of Exchange Server. To resolve the issue, please have a look at the following KB article and follow the instructions to fix it:

Please let me know the result.

Hi Steve,

thank you for answering.

The users have the additional mailboxes mounted in two different ways - some mount them via "Erweitert" which means "Extended" and is found in the extended settings area of the primary mailbox in outlook 2010.

Most users (we try to get them to use this way) have mounted the additional mailboxes via "add account" as completely seperate account.

Both types of users do get the password prompt until we remove and readd the additional mailbox(es).

All users have been migrated to an on-premise exchange 2013 DAG from a 2007 server some months ago. No online or hybrid environment.

Any other ideas or info I can check?

Best regards
Nico
