Outlook 2010 search results highlights not working in Online Mode

Hey Guys,

We just implemented Citrix Published Desktop in our environment and due to the nature of the load balancing of the server, the Outlook profile is set to Online Mode.

Now, there are few users who was previously using the search capability of the 2010 using the Cache Mode and whenever their results are shown, the keyword will be highlighted. How can I achieved this using Outlook 2010 Online Mode?

I was trying to test in my lab. Coincidentally, I also encountered this kind of problem. After I click File > Options  > Search > Indexing Options > Advanced > Rebuild (Index), the problem is fixed.

Good Luck.

Hey Tony,

Thanks for the reply.

The Indexing Options has been disabled and I think its because we didn't turn on the search feature. Even if we turn it on, i believe user need to rebuild their indexes each time they are on a different machine (we are using Citrix Server Hosted model which running on multiple nodes load-balanced).

Basically, the setup won't work since the index need to be rebuild each time the user logs in to another machine and since its a server hosted, multiple user are sharing the same resource and imagine the performance like if everyone rebuild their index. Is there any better way to do this?

Did you ever find a solution to this or is it simply not a supported featurein Online mode?  Text highlighting works fine in cached mode but not in online mode via Citrix.  I assume this is by design?

Hi Douggly,

It is by design as in online mode, all the items (email, calendar and task) are directly access to the mailbox server. Compared to Cached Mode, an OST file is created on the disk thus indexing can pick this up and start indexing it.
