Outlook 2010 not indexing in Windows 8.1

Hi,

I have tried to search in other threads, but none of the solutions worked for me.

I have windows 8.1 (up to date) and Outlook 2010. When I start outlook, I see in the bottom, the message Windows Desktop Search is not available.

And in my indexing options I cannot see Outlook, when I click in modify under the applications.

I have tried to repair office a couple of times, I ran the indexing troubleshooter for mail problems, but still I cannot see it. Any idea?

Thanks

Carlos

Hi,

By "the indexing troubleshooter", do you mean the "Windows Desktop Search" fix it tool? If this is the case, I'm afraid the tool isn't supported in Windows 8.1.

The message "Windows Desktop Search is not available" indicates that the "Windows Search" service may not be running correctly. To check this, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type services.msc in the box and press enter. Find the Windows Search service and check if the status is showing Running. We can also try right-clicking on Windows Search service and click Restart. Then, restart Outlook to see the result.

Hi Steve,

With the index troubleshoot, I refer to indexing options, then on the bottom there is an option to "troubleshoot search and index".

The search service was working (it is indexing other file content). I went to the services and Windows Search" service was running, I also closed outlook, restarted the service and start outlook again.

but outlook is still complaining that there is no search engine:

What is very odd is that in the indexing options I do not see outlook. If I go to indexing options, then modify, I do not see outlook...

Thanks

Carlos
