Outlook 2010 missing emails that show up in OWA and on Iphone (exchange 2010)??
Keep having this recurring problem.. Todays incident: Servers had to go down from 930am till 1230pm.. Turn servers back on.. have people log off and back on to reconnect their outlook 2010 sessions. One user at 2pm says they should have received an email at 12pm, but didnt. So i have them log into OWA and check.. the email is there in OWA but not on their outlook client. Similar case for myself.. i see the email on the iphone that i too was missing, but my outlook client is missing the email. The obvious fix i have done is remove the ost cache file.. then it resyncs fine, but this isnt practical and i have to keep having users check OWA to see if theirs needs deleted (have done this a few times already over the last few weeks). Does anyone know what could be causing this and what to do about it? Thanks very much

Sounds like a corrupt OST or profile to me. Does this keep repeating for the same user, i.e. does the data continue to disappear so to speak causing you to kill and refresh the OST or was it just the one time. If it keep happening, try recreating the profile Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com

Simply closing and re-opening Outlook wasnt enough? Otherwise, recreating the Outlook profile is probably the best option. ( Or deleting the .ost as you stated)

( Or deleting the .ost as you stated) This is a sporadic problem amongst 34 users.. i really dont think this is truely an ost issue.. I even had one user delete their ost file.. recreated the mail locally.. they were previously having issues scheduling a resource, which in regular outlook would always reply back with a successfully booked message.. even after deleting the ost, they are still not getting that message anymore.

Is Exchange 2010 at SP1 yet?
October 5th, 2010 10:58am

When you say sporadic, do you mean that the issue comes back on the same user even AFTER killing off the old OST and Profile? what version of Outlook are the 34 users that are having problems using vs the ones that are not? Any other common thread between the users having the problems vs the once that do not? Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com

Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com Well the problem of scheduling not working is global right now.. it only works in owa, web outlook. If the end user goes into owa, sees an email not seen in regular outlook.. then deletes their ost file.. the problem of not seeing that email goes away, but, this issue isnt with all 34 users (missing emails).. hence my reluctance to think this is an ost issue.. i fear something is wrong on the server (suddenly). (outlook 2010) I'm tempted to install sp1 jsut to try to fix this, but there is something deeper going on, i think. I have one server called vsexchcashub and another vsexchmbx01.. the first is the cas/hub server and the second being the mailbox server. (i'm assuming i would install sp1 on both servers if i chose this route?)

Just for clarity sake are you having multiple issues, i.e. scheduling aka meetings, as well as emails not showing up or are these one in the same, i.e. notifications of meetings not showing up? I cant say that this is a SP or RU issue, but personally I would say that you should move to SP1 since it resolved so many issues with RTM and then see if this persist and of course the other interim option is to ensure you are up to RU4 on the RTM implementation and see if that solves it. Even if RU4 resolves the issue IMHO I would plan to move to SP1 as soon as possible. My only other concern would be Outlook 2010, since IMO it in need of its own SP since I see and hear many issues in the wild still on this. I certainly could be wrong on this but it would be interesting if you have a 2007 client to see if it persist in the version of Outlook or not. Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com

Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com yep, both scheduling (Global) and missing emails vs owa (some users, not all for missing email) Again scheduling is fine in OWA but not in outlook.. I just updated to sp1.. no change here. I also had a user try outlook 2010 scheduling on his machine, as he had the latest office 2010 updates.. same trouble there. Any other thoughts?

Do you have an Outlook 2007 client around to test with? If the data showing properly on other clients its something in the client not in the EDB i.e. it has to be in the profile, OST OR the client itself so I would try Outlook 2007. Outlook 2010 is cool but again lots of issues are still outstanding and my developers cringe when I talk to them about this so give 2007 a whirl and see what happens Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com

In one case, i had a user who kept getting prompted for userid and password when opening 2007 outlook.. after rebooting etc.. i had to delete their entire profile and start over..

Expected: 220, actual: 500, whole response: 500 5.3.3 Unrecognized command On the cas/hub server: System: Eventid 36888 Schannel The following fatal alert was generated: 10. The internal error state is 1203. These are the only 2 server side errors i see. Another note.. i dont have public folders installed in our config.. TMG eh? oh boy that stuff is great when it works but man when it goes south its a major pain.... Ok so How often are these errors occurring? I found some into on the first one so take a look at this and see if it resolves that issue first and then lets check the logs again to see if the other event persist and also to see if the main issue is still happening http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/FSENext/thread/d193fa3a-686c-4ad9-a534-b484ad0bc9d4 Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com

Ok, the other day had to shutdown both of the hyperV servers.. (my dcs are virtual too).. Turned them back on.. Problem started after this pretty much. Well the end result was that my main PDC emulator/DC must have been not fully "connected" to things.. once i rebooted this server, then Also rebooted both exchange servers, suddenly the conferencing issue is fixed. Ill check with the one other user as to whether they are still "missing" that email that was in OWA but not outlook. I guess in the future, i need to set a timer on when to start up all the other vm's or at least the exchange ones.. say 120 seconds or more.. previously i had them set to save state on shutdown, but realized it is better to shut them down, this is probably why this time around this happened i guess.. Thanks for helping push me along to this solution for now.

The other is droids.. they no longer receive email..The only fix that may work was this one i found (droid side i think): Go into settings, then accounts, choose the activesync account, in the properties uncheck verify certificate, then try syncing your mail, after your mail starts to flow again go back and re-check the verify cert. UPDATE: this above fix did not seem to work with droid (original droid).

Not sure how your Outlook users are configured, but I see allot of potential resolutions, some on TMG, some re RPC over HTTPS etc here on the forums. (I did recently update the certificate for another 2 years, but i'm pretty sure it was done correctly and about 2 months ago.. so no issues until this server reboot.. so i think the cert update is unrelated).

Does the subject name on the certificate match the FQDN that the workstations connect to for Outlook Anywhere? Well, via owa it does.. at least when i set it to show all.. "subject alternate name".. i see both autodiscover.domain.com and wan1.domain.com for some reason some machines have either of these, not just one of them. I think i need to check the cert somewhere else in exchange to fully verify..

This 3rd one with multiple services is the latest cert i installed.. Maybe the first two dont need to be there, as i have my servername in the ucc cert that was updated.. ie: vsexchcashub.domain.local is listed as subject alt names.. the other two with just smtp have just vsexchcashub and vsexchcashub.domain.local as the subjects. One is "microsoft exchange" and self signed, the other is blank and not self signed.

Update on the other droid issue.. (and also what i think is doing the trick for outlook 2010 clients and xp sp3) I went to the cas/hub server, IIS settings.. clicked on Microsoft-Server-Activesync.. then SSL settings.. Changed Client Certificates from Ignore to "Accept".. I'm not sure if this alone did the trick, but i also went to the other virtual directories, to fix the issue of the prompting with outlook, and set those to the same.. ie: Default web site.. ECP, autodiscover, EWS, OWA, RPC and RPCWithCert. I'm triple checking that both of these actually did the trick, ie: with some others first.. will reply with a note if this worked in all cases or was a fluke.

On your Droid issue...we have had issues with various Android OS phones after almost every Exchange 2010 RU and especially after installing SP1. The problem (in my opinion) is that it seems each Android phone has its own interpretation of ActiveSync. We now tell any of our users that are considering the purchase of a Droid phone to also purchase Touchdown (http://www.nitrodesk.com/default.aspx).

We are having a similar problem (only with 1 user at the moment - fortunately). Clients are using Outlook 2010, and Exchange 2007. When the user moves a email from their inbox to a folder it doesn't show up in the folder (but it DOES in OWA) - corrupt OST, you would think? We've tried deleting the .OST a recreating a local copy of the mailbox - and then it will work for awhile, but then the same symptoms return. This has happened at least 3 times now. Any suggestions on a fix? Thanks, Robert C.

Did you try shutting off the cache, killing the OST and just do a direct connect to see if it works as expected without the cache? There are some interesting changes with cache mode in 2010 so I would start there and hopefully it will help point in the right direction How big is the OST right now? Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com
