Outlook 2010/2013 slowly opens messages of the RTF format, in which large number of attachments
In a corporate environment for the exchange of messages between users use Outlook 2010 in conjunction with Exchange. For the corporate standard letter format adopted,  RTF, members send each other messages in the format of RTF, in which a large number of attachments (150-200 elements), the size of these messages is about 1 MB, and the attachments themselves are approximately 1 KB in size. After using it for a while users begin to complain about the performance of Outlook 2010 as the folders "Inbox", "sent items" and "Draft" take about 15-20 seconds to open and about 15-20 seconds to send "Forward". When diagnosing the problem with the utility Procmon.exe it was found that if you create a message in the RTF format with attachments in the folder % localappdata% \ Temporary Internet Files \ Content.Word, then temporary files are created. The ~WRF file in the folder increases in size by creating / opening the RTF format messages with attachments. When the ~WRF file size reaches 150Mb, messages in RTF format with a lot of attachments are opened slowly, and when clicking on the "send" icon,  the message freezes for about 15 seconds. Folder % localappdata% \ Temporary Internet Files \ Content.Word is cleared after you close Outlook. Because in a corporate environment there are so many messages, Outlook often has to be restarted and the same problem occurs with Outlook 2013. Please help find a solution to this problem without having to restart Outlook.

Hi,

I understand that in your scenario the users face the Outlook performance issue because of the large number of temp files.

Actually I can reproduce this issue on my side, that these temp files are occupied by Outlook unless we exit Outlook which will soon release the temp files, this is a by-design behavior in Outlook so I have to admit there is no easy way to avoid it.

The only workaround I know is what you have mentioned to restart Outlook, then the temp files will be cleared and the issue should be gone - It may be a bit troublesome for users in your scenario though.

The outlook's performance problem is because of the large size (150mb) of the one temporary file in the folder "%localappdata%\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Word"
