Outlook 2007 prompts for password and OAB sync errors with Exchange 2007 on SBS 2008
I am just about at my wits end researching this problem. I have checked my client’s certificate, autodiscover settings, dns settings, outlook anywhere
policies....nothing.
In Outlook 2007 on the workstations I'm getting the typical errors with this:
16:40:33 Microsoft Exchange offline address book
16:40:33
Not downloading Offline address book files.
A server (URL) could not be located.
16:40:33
0X8004010F
AND
Task 'Microsoft Exchange' reported error (0x8004010F): 'The operation failed. An object cannot be found.'
On the server, I've tried the following:
-
In EMC, created a new OAB with a different name
-
In EMC, checked the Internal and External URLs (https://remote.slconst.com/OAB)
-
In EMC, changed Outlook Anywhere authentication from Basic to NTLM
-
Added DNS entries for autodiscover and remote
Added a SRV record to the DNS record on Network Solutions.
Environment:
SBS 2008 with Exchange 2007 SP2
Win XP SP3 and Win 7 – both with Outlook 2007
When I do the whole Ctrl + Right-click on Outlook on the workstation and run the test. I first get a Security Alert which basicly states the following:
autodiscover.slconst.com
Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. However, there is a problem with the site's security certificate.
(green check mark) The security certificate is from a trusted certifying authority.
(green check mark) The security certificate date is valid.
(red X) The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site.
Do you want to proceed? Yes No View Certificate
If I click View Certificate, I get the public certificate for the domain, which is for remote.slconst.com
Then I click Yes and get the following:

Outlook prompts for username and password when you first open Outlook and then it does it randomly throughout the day. These are all computers that are part of the
domain and the users all have local admin rights on their computers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing that you need the internal URL in the certificate.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

That's a good guess, use a SAN/UC certificate and add the internal URL and you will be fine
In addition, if there's any other problem regarding this error code you can check this link for troubleshooting
