Outlook 2007 error The connection to Micrsoft Exchange is unavailable
We are on Windows 7, all new users I setup and then try opening outlook for the first time gives an error. So, I found this FixIt that seems to be the only thing that works http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319206 . Is it possible my Exchange server isn't pointing to the right Global Catalog Server? A while ago I ran some commands from this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927612 due to Outlook prompting for credentials when it would open for the first time (this is a domain so no need for that), but ever since then, now the initial setup of a user's Outlook fails. I think the error message is "The connection to Micrsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be connected or on line to complete this action." Also, I'm getting a certificate error and I know the certificate is valid.

Hi MarcGel, Which version of exchange do you use? I would do some troubleshooting on the exchange server firstly. 1. Run EXBPA on the exchange server, confirm everything work well, confirm all the exchange services work well 2. confirm there are no error in the exchange server event log 3. Use test-outlookwebservices through EMS to confirm everything properly configured 4. On the client, do you join it into the domain, I would also confirm it whether it could resolve the exchange server successfully Regards! Hi Gavin, We run Exchange 2007 with SP3. The DC is 2008 Standard. I'm getting a certificate error that the cert isn't in the local personal computer store. But when I open MMC, its in there and correct. Ok, ran EXBPA and found mainly issues with schema versions and a reference to the old mail server still in there. The old mail server has been brought down so need to clean that out if possible. Also, got this Error; The Exchange schema extensions are from an unknown version. Schema version detected is 14625. and Unrecognized Exchange signature; Active Directory domain 'ourlocaldomain' has an unrecognized Exchange signature. Current DomainPrep version: 11221. So, it says to run the schema prep stuff again. As long as this doesn't disrupt service, I should be ok right? Will report if fix is good once I get a new system to setup. We're a small company so sometimes this takes a while.

If you haven't changed any of the schema that the schema prep will update, you should be fine. For example, any modifications made to details templates will be overwritten. If you've changed the display names of any schema object the prep may fail, too -- until you return the schema object to its original state (I've been burned by that one before!). --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Hi MarcGel, So, we could follow Rich's suggestion to run the prepare the schema again, and then make sure the CERT whether is issued properly. We could use the the get-exchangecertificate to confirm the the CERT. Regards! I was just pointing out that it's generally a safe thing to do. :-) --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Hi Guys, ok setup.com /ps encountered an error. Doesn't say what it is though. Also, I ran get-exchangecertificate and 4 show up including the valid one. Not seeing any evidence in event viewer for the setup.com / ps error.

Hi Guys, its been a while since I set this up so i'm not finding the install CD. I found this though; en_exchange_server_2007_with_service_pack_1_enterprise_and_standard_x64.exe. I tried running setup.exe /ps but it couldn't find the setup file.

Hi MarcGel, After done more research, we could ignore the error about the schema. Then, could you please run the get-exchangecertificate and the test-outlookwebservices, and then post the result here, so we could do more research about your issue. Does the OWA work well for the account? I would recreate the outlook profile for the issue account, and make a test. Any event log on the server? On the client, do you join it into the domain, I would also confirm it whether it could resolve the exchange server successfully? Regards! Hi Gavin, Sorry to respond so late. Other things more important going on here. But OWA working just fine, no errors. I haven't had to reimage a machine yet so I haven't been able to test if the setup.com /ps helped my issue or not. As for setup logs there are many. What should I be looking for there? Thanks, Marc
