Outlook 2007 MS Word email attachments won't open

I work in a mid sized law firm, our environment consists of Windows 7 and MS Office 2007 professional plus and exchange 2010. recently several of our users are reporting the following problem while trying to open Word (doc or docx) attachments from in Outlook.

The first time you try to open the attachment Word will open and you will get the greyish-blue background but the document never opens, the attachment may open fine on subsequent attempts or if Word is opened before hand the attachments will open without issues.

The users may also not be able to open locally saved Word documents on the first attempt as well. this appears to be profile or machine specific if the user forwards the email to another employee the attachment will open fine without exhibiting any issues. we have tried runing repair in outlook and have tried disabling any third party addins and the problem persists.

Has anyone seen this issue or have any suggestions on how to resolve it?

Thank you,

Craig

I case your word file is not opened, chances are word file is corrupted, in that situation you need to repair the word file. You can search on the Google word file repair software, you will get the lots of software but i would suggest you RecoveryFix for Word software because this company offer free trial version of the software, with the help of this software you are eligible to see the preview of recover data. You can download the free trial version of software from here:

Unfortunately this is not a document issue, the users that are affected can forward the email to another user and the attachment is fine

Hi,

Then try to use the following steps to check the issue:

Right click on a .docx file and choose "open with".

Select Word and ensure you have checked "always open with" option box.

I can confirm that RAM had nothing to do with this issue. We upgraded one user to 8GB of RAM and it was still displaying the same symptoms.

We currently have a case open with Microsoft at the minute which is becoming tiresome as they are trying to put the blame on add-ins we have on our machines.

They have suggested to run Word in safe mode which does work but it is not practical as we use add-ins and templates for our document management system etc.

Will keep you updated.

I'm having the same issue and can't find a solution online.  Have you found a workaround?

all Ms word users can easily repair or recover corrupted or damaged MS word files with the help of  Word Recovery Tool which can easily restore the original repaired or recovered Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx) files data without losing their original text, font, hyperlinks, headers/footers, images, charts, etc.
