Outlook 2007/2010 Client cant connec to exchange 2013

HI,

I have a small 50 user exchange server 2013 that was upgraded from exchange 2003. I uninstalled 2003 to update the schema and this allowed me to install exchange 2013.

The issue i'm facing is, OWA works perfectly and mailflow is ok, but the outlook clients can't connect, auto-discovery works well because the establish connection and search for address are check off bu fails on the logon server with a GUIID {GuID@domain.com} as the server name and a mailbox with =SMTP:user@domain.com

I cant figure out what's wrong, I can't enter the server netbios or dns name, I still get server not available

Hi,

When you use autodiscover to configure the profile, did you get any error?

From your screenshoot, it semms your Outlook client has found the mailbox guid, but cannot logon the mailbox, did you use another mailbox to have a try?

Thanks,

Evan

Hi

What you see in the screenshot is correct - mailboxes are not linked to servers in 2013 so the autodiscover process returns the mailbox GUID instead.

The problem you have (most likely) is certificates.  All connections from Outlook to the server are via Outlook Anywhere (RPC/HTTP) so you need to have a valid certificate on the server.  This certificate can come from your internal CA or a public 3rd party one but OA cannot connect with the self signed certificates that are there by default.

Cheers, Steve

Hi,

I replaced the default self-sign certificate and I'm still getting the same exact error. Autodiscovery works until the logon to server check box.

All the outlook clients are having the same exact issue. I also tried it on a brand new computer new outlook 2010 installation.

Hi

You can enable logging in Outlook and look for a file in the %temp% directory called olkdisc.log, which may provide some helpful information.

is there a way to turn on logging without the profile being created?

This is a new install upgrade from Exchange 2003

I've just noticed that this is a duplicate of http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-GB/exchangesvradmin/thread/a9a29cdf-f056-4e8e-b16f-387ff6556e4f perhaps they could be merged?

I'm experiencing the same exact issue.  I cannot get assistance from Microsoft without purchasing a support pack.  Go figure since I just purchased the software.  My outlook web access is fine, mobile devices are ok as well.  The clients machines inside my domain are the ones have the certificate issues.  I purchased and installed a certificate and still the same issue.

I've just migrated to Exchange 2013 and Im experiencing the same Outlook error on my non-domain clients. My domain joined outlook clients works fine. Its not a certificate issue because I have generated new ones from my CA. OWA works fine and Autodiscover too.

Somebody has an answer? I still dont know if  upgrading Outlook to 2013  or applying the Service Pack in my outlook 2010 clients will work but Im going to try.

Yes! I'm running a coexistence test lab with exchange 2007 and 2013. When setting up a non-domain pc to connect to ex2013 using its IP address i get the following error.

---------------------------
Microsoft Outlook
---------------------------
The action cannot be completed.  The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.
---------------------------

Now, if i use the ex2007 IP, it then prompts me for credentials and then resolves to the dns of exchange 2013?! I click finish. close all windows and then launch Outlook 2013 and get this error.

---------------------------
Microsoft Outlook
---------------------------
Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your Outlook data file (.ost).
---------------------------

Note: I can connect to the ex2013 from a domain-pc using Outlook
