Outlook 2003 using Exchange Server
I am trying to locate the option to leave a copy of my emails on the server, in order to veiw them from different locations. I am using microsoft exchange server in outlook 2003, and it doesn't have the normal option that 2003 does in the advanced tab to "leave a copy on server". What do I do? Please help. timstein@hvc.rr.com

Do you access your mails by POP3 ? If yes it should be there but if your Outlook is configured to use MAPI be sure that your mails not going to Local File (pst) oshener

We are having the same problem. We switched over to Exchange 2 days ago and now all my mail is sucked off our web based email server onto our local server and I can't get emails on my phone. We have always kept a copy on web server for 7 days in order to check email offsite. Is there a way to keep doing this? Thanks

Hi, There are many ways but they may not be quite what you used to do. It sounds like you used to use POP3 mail but now are using Exchange. Are you using the standalone version of Exchange or one that came with SBS server 2003? Exchange makes it possible to access your mail from the web either using OWA or ActiveSync on your phone. Only the version of Exchange in SBS can pull down mail from a POP3 box and I don't believe it is possible to have Exchange leave a copy on the server. Let me know a few more details and I will try and be more specific. Cheers Nathan

Nathan--thanks for taking the time to reply.... We are using Exchange with SBS server 2003. We have been pulling mail from a POP account but it is taking the mail from the server. I deleted all the bridges to the Pop and have set up another email account on everyone's computer as a POP account leaving the messages on our outside mail server. I THINK that it is working because I just got your message at my coumputer at home which is looking in the POP account. The only other problem is now when we write to a person on exchange I have to change accounts to make sure it doesn't come from the exchange account. If there is an easier way, let me know. Thanks again! David

Hi, No problem, pleased to help (or at least try to!) Anyhow; What exactly do you currently use the Exchange accounts for? Calandering, Tasks etc? Agreed, what you currently have is not optimal! I suggest considering using Exchange as your central (single solution) you can setup Exchange to provide remote access to people whether that be users with laptops or home computers, or just anywhere with a browser. That would then remove your reliance on the external POP provider. Obviously it isa step change from what you have been using but it you would end up with a single point of email storage which is potentially accessilbe all over the world! If that is interesting let me know, and I can help you work through the steps needed. Cheers Nathan P.S Happy New Year.

Nathan-- we have set up Exchange mainly as a calendar sharing service...we do want to utilize the remote access of SBS and get emails there as well. Most of the staff members on our church use a Palm Treo for voice and email. I am going step by step in setting things up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. David

Hi, Ok no problem. Maybe we could take this offline and have either a email or phone chat about what you want to end up with. If not, I am more than happy to keep answering questions here but you may not want to post all the details of your system here. It would be good to know exactly what you want to end up with and exactly what is setup now, then we can put together a plan of how to move. Drop me a mail at nathan@clarinathan.co.uk Cheers Nathan

Hey Nathan Happy New Year!!! My mail account in outlook is setup as a exchange server account, and it pulls mail from a mail server at the company HQ. I want to only taake a copy off the server, becuz I need this mail at different locations, and on different machines. I can do this with my pop account, but the option is removed in exchange server. What do I do? Thanks

Hi, You need to investigate where you mail is being delivered to. An Exchange account can (and does by default) simply access the mail in your mailbox. However, it could be that the mail is setup to be downloaded and stored in a PST. In that case you need to change the delivery location of your mail. Which version of Outlook and Exchange are we talking about? Let me know what versions you are running and I will look into the best way of providing a solution. Cheers Nathan

Hello, I have the same problem. I am using Outlook 2003 and cannot figure out how to keep a copy of my EXCHANGE email in MS Outlook Web Access. It downloads everything once Outlook 2003 is opened. I have two other POP email accounts in Outlook 2003, which downloads the mail to my .pst file. Is there a way to have multiple kinds of email accounts but yet keep one particular account's (exchange) email on the server? Thanks!
